The writing in this true crime is painfully bad at times. The cases seem interesting, but the super high level approach means there’s never enough information to really tell.
4.5 ⭐s Why Do Kids Kill Their Parents? There are a myriad of answers to that question. But as demonstrated in this book there are a few common occurring themes. One, for Monetary Gain either through an inheritance or an insurance policy. Two, Abuse suffered by the child. It could have been physical, sexual, or psychological. Even a combination of all of them. Three, the killer suffers from Mental illness such as schizophrenia. Or they they are lacking empathy or incapable of regret or remorse such as a sociopath or psychopath.
Four, the desire to be with a boyfriend that the parents deem unacceptable sometimes leads the daughter to recruit their boyfriend to help her to ensure they can be together. Fortunately these crimes are usually poorly planned and the killers quickly get caught. Fifth, sometimes one child is responsible for the death of the rest of the family members. These mass murderers are called Family Annihilators and they do it for all the reasons described above. Sometimes the ones you need to fear are the ones closest to you.
This collection didn’t feel right. For starters, not all of the cases were actually children, so I don’t think they should be included. Even though their stories of murderous thought may have started in their youth, I don’t think they should be included on a list of “killer kids.” There was also a case of a young girl who had been abused by her father, who later returned and killed him. I didn’t like this being included either because 1) she wasn’t a child when she killed him, and 2) it was in defense and retribution of her abuse. The stories were interesting and well researched, but I didn’t like the chosen cases for this particular category: Killer Kids.
This TC anthology of killer "kids" is made up of mostly very well known cases that have been written about and reported on TV ad nauseam. I use "kids" because a few of the killers were in their twenties or older. There are no startling revelations and some information is just mundane such as letting us know that one killer was a registered Democrat. If you are interested in this topic, try Robert Keller or Les MacDonald who both have terrific series on actual juveniles that are much more obscure and varied.
This was a true and very chilling stories about children who have killed theIr parents some who have been molested or physically abused and others who have killed due to their evil greed but it was a very intriguing read I would recommend this book to anyone who is a true crime enthusiast 🙂💙📚
