Writing a book about your mother is no easy task. But Kathy Brainard, in this coming of familial love, has made it a joy to read! It's a whirlwind of creative writing that follows her mother's progression from a poor girl being raised by a single mother during the Depression, to a brilliant scholarship winning student, to a "model PTA President parent", to a shrewd businesswoman in a man's industry (mining), to a fallen heroine seduced by alcohol and power who's jailed for tax invasion, and, in the finale, to a woman seeking atonement with her husband, her children, her family, and, most of all, with herself.
It's a powerful story of how money and power corrupts and how sacrifice redeems.
Biography of my wild and wonderful aunt, Dorothy Brainard, written by her daughter. This was such fun to read - very interesting and quirky style with fun, laugh out loud stories. My only wish is that it were longer.
