From the moment I began this remarkable autobiography, it was clear that Awan, the writer and subject, is a master storyteller (a gift no doubt passed down through the generations), making the book easy to be devoured in one sitting. The book is masterfully structured, with Awan piecing together a patchwork of diverse experiences over many decades across all the corners of the globe. His open-heartedness and generosity of spirit shine through to the extent that if I was ever to meet Sakib in person, I would instinctively feel a connection to him and that I already knew him. There is something very familiar and grounded in the way Awan is able to relate his life experiences and general philosophy on life, business, philanthropy, and social justice. What is quite unique about this memoir is the fact that it defies categorisation into traditional autobiographical genres… it is partly a guide to business and entrepreneurship, where you feel as though Awan is your personal mentor. It is a guidebook on how to survive setbacks and demonstrate growth through resilience while also serving as an affirmation of social justice and creating a better future through the protection of human rights. Running through all of this is the story of Awan’s family, which is the beating heart of the book. If I was pushed to describe it in a few words, I would say it is a ‘manifesto on living.'

As a 30-something year old woman I wasn't sure how much of this book would resonate with me. I am not seeking to start a multi-national company, after all.
However, straight away Sakib's story compelled me to read on. The way he has written about his life, his travels, his family - they all take us on a beautiful journey of a brilliant man.

Yes, the book contains pearls of wisdom for those who are business-minded; yes, there are tips and 'learn from experience' type nuggets dotted throughout, but this story is full of heart, full of tenacity. It is one of a migrant who took the opportunities presented to him and made his life full and rich.

Great story, Sakib!

The story of Sakib Awan’s life is rich with history and social commentary underpinned with his love for family. The reader is taken on Awan's international life journey to business success. Whilst telling his life story, Awan gives the reader context and relevance by describing what was happening locally and internationally at the time. His honest insights about his experience in Australia, both good and bad, as a migrant, will no doubt resonate with many.
I was really struck by Awan’s genuine concern for the well-being of his employees and how he went out of his way to look after all his staff as well as the local communities where his business was based.

Sakib Awan, you are a big hearted visionary.
