Down to Earth: The Courageous Story of the British Airways Stewardess Who Built an Orphanage in Bangladesh

Rate this book
Air stewardess Pat decided to run an orphanage while on a stopover in Dacca. Touching down in Third World countries, yet always staying in 5-star luxury began to make her aware of how little she contributed to the miserable conditions around her. Pat took five months, unpaid leave to set about moving into and running a charity orphanage in Dacca. With astonishing determination, courage and practical skill she started to raise the money and involve the crew - and eventually the might of British Airways itself - to build a new orphanage. It is now a happy, thriving village for over 400 children.

Interesting read - I found this on the bookshelf; signed and belonged to the Lostwithiel based prents of a friend who passed this along when his parents passed away.
I remember this in the news and this lady had the media persona to ensure interest levels remained useful for the ongoing funding of this children's village. Great work and it is interesting to read her side of the events.
Clearly this was a passion for understanding another culture and also bettering things for those she could help - a lot of hard work and some sad outcomes along with the successes.
Hats off to her and those who worked alongside her too.
Only one criticism would be the need of a strict editor - a fair bit of repetition throughout.
