" THE SELECTION meets TWILIGHT in this dazzling vampire romance!"

Young women from every settlement in the land are being handpicked to enter The Pageant, a contest reminiscent of Miss Universe from the old days. Gwyneth West's social-climbing mother wants her to compete, but Gwyn isn't so sure...

The Pageant is government-sponsored. If you're lucky enough to be chosen, participation is mandatory. Aggressive competition is allowed, even encouraged.

And then there's the prize...
Dallas Black, otherwise known as The Dark Prince, will propose to the winner. Dallas is the son of King Black, who won the last world war and governs the new settlements.

The Royal Family is mysterious. Rumor has it they don't sleep. Rumor has it they eschew the sun. Rumor has it they're immortal.

When Gwyn is thrust into The Pageant, she fights to survive the competitive nature of the other contestants.

But even if she wins...can she survive a vampire fiancé? Come and join the romantic, supernatural fun!

I loved these books, all 8 of them.
They have a simple premise, there's a royal vampire prince and he needs a human wife and the girls aged 17-18 are brought from all the settlements to have a chance at marrying him. Gwyneth is the star of the show, she makes friends with Eve, who remains a friend throughout, but becomes a vampire too. The contest progresses and we learn about Blake, Shaye and Tamara too. It's a shame that Shaye never got a story and a happy ending too.
The settlements are in a state of disrepair, the men are mostly off fighting the vampires, but the women and children and the men who are left survive hand to mouth. Gwyn has a rebel brother and father who make an appearance eventually and are forgiven. The vampires despite having been treating humans as blood slaves forever are reformed and Gwyn helps Dallas make that move to improve the settlements.
By the end of book 4 Gwyn is the winner and then the action moves to the princes brother, where Blake falls in love, learns that the brother is also a good man too and determined to improve things. Even if his father won't. She falls in love and makes pets of Gnomes, gets married and then the action moves to the werewolves and Tamara, who despite being a spoilt and somewhat snobby person evolves in to a much better person and falls in love with Rhys the werewolf.
It's a very good story, which despite being a little silly sometimes, still manages to entertain and kept me reading to the very end all eight books in just a few days. I liked the stories, the intertwined continuing action and the final ending.

easy read - good storytelling

Series was well thought out, was easy to read. Was a good story all around, although the endings were pretty predictable and the same format/idea was the same throughout all the books like a cookie cutter was used to produce each book
