In general I liked “180 Bible Verses for a Less Stressed Life: Devotions for Women”. Prior to opening the book I didn’t realize that it was formatted as a daily devotional. I thought the verses would be organized by topic or subject. There is a verse index at the back but that’s just organized by book. While reading through the devotions, I found some helpful and relevant. I also came across verses that were new to me. All in all, this book illustrates the idea that bringing your fears, concerns and more to God is the best way to lead a life filled with less stress.

I do wish that there was an explanation of the different translations used. I recognized some like The Message but I hadn’t heard of The Voice or The Passion Translation (which has been removed from BibleGateway).. I will say that some of the devotions were repetitive or not relevant to me. I understand that for many women, relationships and marriage is a big deal but I found it slightly annoying that it was tied to so many of the devotions. I also had a problem with one or two that (in my opinion) tried to say that if you had a “good” relationship with God then your stress level could be really low and you shouldn’t have depression. I think that having a relationship with God can definitely improve how you tackle these issues, but doesn’t mean you won’t ever experience them. The messaging put me off a bit, like I wasn’t doing something right if I experienced those things.

Take a moment to pause, catch your breath, and sit in the presence of the Lord. I love the promises shared in this collection of devotions. Each verse is a reminder of God’s power, presence, and sufficiency for all of our needs. The devotions are short, conversational style as though a friend is speaking words of wisdom, comfort, and reminders. Each entry was just the right word, for just the right time. Short, simple, and powerful reminders of God’s presence at all times.

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced copy of this wonderful book. If you are looking for a devotional that you will have time for, this is it! I will be buying this for all my family members when it is published. It is quick to read, but impactful. Thank you for creating this 180 Bible Verse devotional. We all are stressed, especially me, but I feel more comfort in knowing that the Lord provides the peace that we need to continue through each day.
