A really sweet origin story that begins what I'm sure will be a great series! We meet Bree, whose magic is stronger than most, even though she's very young, and her grandmother, Alina, who is raising her in the absence of her parents. So much happens for such a short tale, and I was left wanting more of the story! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I do recommend it!
Very sweet story, depicting a young 8 year old Bree and her grandmother Alma. The scene with the orange is so full of wonder and flavour that I could almost taste the orange! So much so that I had to go and eat an orange myself! So much emotion is contained in this short story, my heart aches for Bree. Her father's absence had a profound effect on Bree, dejected and unwanted. But her grandmother's love is evident and takes Bree to the lake to watch the stars and to see a falling star. It is here that Bree's magic shocks even Alma. This story left me with a wonderful warm feeling. Lovely!
