After his ex shatters his heart and leaves him to be a single father, Joaquin Shepherd becomes a rake. The only emotion he feels for women is the pleasure he takes and gives in one-night stands. His life is turned upside down when his ex’s little sister, Aaliyah, shows up seeking his help one stormy night. The girl he once helped raise is now a woman in a life-or-death situation. As she sheds light on the lies that helped break him, he finds himself realizing just how grown and tempting she truly is.

Joaquin, her almost brother-in-law, is the only safe haven Aaliyah can turn to when her sister, Cailyn, and her drug-peddling boyfriend turn on her. Alone, and afraid she winds up on the doorstep of the only home she ever felt safe in. Taken begrudgingly under his wing, she seeks comfort and protection as her life becomes a dangerous nightmare. Suddenly, the man Aaliyah once looked to for strength and guidance awakened her libido and challenged her ideal future.
Pushed together by those blackmailing for money and seeking their ruin, they must lean on each other to survive.

Joaquin and Aaliyah will draw you into this story from page one and keep you glued to all their drama. Aaliyah comes from a dysfunctional family where she sees her father sent to jail and her mother deteriorates from the use of drugs which sends her and her sister into the system. Aaliya watches her sister become a carbon copy of her all the way down to using drugs. It is because of the drugs that she loses the best man that she had in her life and the only safe place Aaliyah new was safe. After hearing what her sister and drug dealer boyfriend have in store for her, she does the only thing she can run to Joaquin and hope that he will provide her with the security she needs. It also starts them along the path of them finally finding happiness!

Rake no more

I like an “everyday” man who takes care of those he loves. Although the heroine was strong in her own way, she stayed in that situation too long and had to learn to trust again. The H was burned before so kept love away from his heart which hurt his own family. These two come together in an extreme situation which ultimately heals more than just themselves. Hope we have stories about the other brothers

I was disappointed with this book. The female h was too silly in numerous situations because she did exactly what black women should know not to do to avoid danger when your life is at risk. Multiple spelling mistakes which can cause misunderstandings if not read correctly. Also the few scenes of intimacy was just blah.

Sorry...

Sorry, but this book was not my cup of tea. It amazes me how even in real life this senerio really happens. Its just my personal opinion but there's enough of the opposite we out here that no one has to go after a family members sloppy seconds

Blood Ties

Character sketch of when family lets you down and love lifts you up. Enjoyable novella of realistic fiction, a nice break from billionaire/mafia/shifter romance.

A wakeup call

Love conquers all, in time. Sometime no matter how hard we try, we can't save everyone. Love is worth showing regardless of the odds. I'm loving this series.
