In Revival...IF , best-selling author Rod Parsley gives readers a road map for cultivating renewal in their own hearts and minds and for participating in spiritual revival on a national scale. Drawing from over forty years of experience with revival personally and in ministry, While the methods of revival may change, the message remains the same. This book shares timeless, biblical truths that will empower believers to seize the moment and experience true, lasting revival and personal renewal.
"Second Chronicles 7:14 doesn’t mean to occasionally seek His face with our crowded agendas or fleshly pursuits. Placing God on a crowded, rotating carousel of priorities and activities will never rend heaven and produce a deluge of vitality and spiritual awaking. Jeremiah 29:13 is clarifying: “You shall seek Me and find Me, when you shall search for Me with *all your heart*.” - Rod Parsley, Revival If.
If you grown up in church like I have, you've likely heard 2 Chronicles 7:14 many times: "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Revival If breaks this scripture down - calling it a a four-part prescription for healing and restoration of a drought-stricken people. He detailes each of those parts, explaining what they mean, using examples of various revivals throughout history, demonstrating how to apply the scripture, and experience revival and awakening in our personal lives, churches and community.
I like this book, obviously because my pastor wrote it, but also because it's Biblical and encourages Christ-centered living (too many "Christian" books are really just a gazillion personal stories with takeaways that aren't exactly theologically correct and ultimately encourage centering yourself in all things. No, thank you!)
I appreciate a book that teaches me more about God and more about the Bible. In fact, it took me "forever" to read this book because I kept looking up the different scriptures referenced and going into deeper study.
My favorite chapter is the one on prayer. He points out "The foundation and fuel of every massive and mighty revival throughout history has been prayer." In this chapter, he broke down the Lord's Prayer "Our Father, which art in heaven..." which, again, many of us know by heart. But he really emphasized and used scripture to backup the idea of praying without ceasing, and specifically praying in the mornings "that pristine time of expectancy and opportunity".
What a revelation to me when he explained that the prayer doesn't say: “Lead us *out* of temptation,” but rather, “Lead us *not into* temptation.” Resistance, he explained, can't BEGIN when we're in the throes of temptation. It begins in the morning. We launch an offensive through prayer BEFORE being faced with temptation and ask the Holy Spirit to lead us in the complete opposite direction of ALL temptation that day. So good.
This is both a challenging and a championing word for believers and The Church. I was both humbled and horrified to think of what I personally am missing out on, but also what our world is missing out on, too. I am inspired by the possibility and reflective about the ways in which I personally need to grow and change. The subtitle of the book is “igniting your passion for personal renewal and national revival” and I absolutely feel this is exactly what this book has done. I’m sure this is only the first of many times I will read through this book.
In this important volume Pastor Rod Parsley demonstrates the need for both personal and corporate revival and lays out four conditions for both types of revival. Highly recommended for individual believers, especially pastors.
