This is the third devotional I've completed in this series. I thought I knew John's gospel pretty well, but it's amazing how they brought out lots of little snippets I hadn't necessarily thought of before. For those who might be new to the gospels, there were a lot of helpful explanatory sections, but there were also insights for those who may have been Christians for a while. I especially liked the way the authors drew parallels between the prophecies and Jewish festivals of the Old Testament and showed how they foreshadowed things in John's gospel pointing to Jesus as the Messiah.

Although there are ten sections with five lessons each, I often spent more time on it, just doing a little chunk at a time. All of the subheadings are helpful, so you can choose how much you want to do each day.

As with the other volumes, I enjoyed the creative aspects of being able to colour in the bookmarks and full-page illustrations while meditating on that week's scripture.

If you like a thoughtful Bible study that also taps into your creative side, you'll enjoy this series.

The authors put together a well researched Bible study. The questions are basic. The application and reflection sections are shallow. I was not very engaged with the lack of depth. I found it boring after a couple of chapters.

Discovering Good News in John has all the elements of a great Bible study and more. The three authors, Pam, Jean, and Karla, have combined their unique gifts to include creativity, commentary, and connection with God’s Word in an amazing and powerful way. This is a study designed with basic questions for new believers of all ages, yet it offers in-depth details, devotions, and applications for all stages of learners. I especially love that the authors share how the prophecies of the Old Testament are being fulfilled throughout Jesus’ life in the book of John. Karla’s creative illustrations also offer readers a way to colorfully express the powerful truths in John. There are fun surprises and too many “extras” to list, but this is truly a “creative, devotional study experience” filled with good news. I highly recommend it.
