Nursing Her Wrath #1

The Bucket List

Rate this book
Angela is running out of time. Already 48 and terminally ill with brain cancer she starts a bucket list '50 things to do before 50'. But what she really wants to do before she kicks the bucket isn't 'walking with alpacas' or being an extra in a film or even finishing her memoirs. It is seeking revenge on all those who wronged her over the years, all those who definitely deserve to die before she does, all those who would otherwise get to see how the story ends when Angela certainly won't..or will she?

The Bucket List is a dark comedy thriller about a woman’s obsession with finding and dishing out revenge to those who have hurt her throughout her life. But where can this end?

Who would be on your bucket list if you had nothing left to lose?

This storyline had me gripped from the very start and did not let go until the very end!

Faced with her demise and with no time to loose, Angela reflects on her life and compiles a list of everyone who has done her wrong. Spurred on by the voice of Brian - the name she’s given her brain tumour, who sounds like Sean Connery – she sets out on a journey to seek revenge.

The Bucket List is a brilliant mixture of darkness and humour. The especially enjoyed the character of Preston – everyone needs a Preston in their lives!

The plot was excellent, the writing fast paced and the characters well developed.

Highly recommend this title and look forward to more from Emelle.

Emelle Adams presents us with a 48-year-old protagonist, facing terminal brain cancer. Angela lives in Scotland with her son Callum, and upstairs from her flamboyant gay neighbour. Both hold trauma from their pasts and struggle with the challenges of life.

Over an innocuous drink at the pub with friends, Angela realises she doesn't want an aspirational bucket list to complete before she dies, but to wreck revenge on those who have hurt her throughout her troubled life. She keeps a diary to recount each deed, and the story is told in the first person to allow us up close to her dark thoughts and grisly, creative plans.

She is an angry woman who self-harms, and she has a lot to be angry about. Her treatment by men has been abysmal; a teenage rape set her on a course of self-protection, but she still ends up in cyclical relationships with all the wrong men, being gaslighted, neglected, bullied and abandoned.

It's billed as a psychological revenge thriller and a black comedy. I just found it pitifully sad, so maybe I missed the point. The ending is clever though not entirely satisfactory. We've been led down a path of violence and retribution, but how much of this was real and how much the mental confusion caused by the brain tumour she has named Brian?

It's certainly an unusual book and it does create a rather morbid curiosity in the reader to find out what happens next, and how she's going to dispatch each subsequent group of malevolent Angela-haters. I'm usually reluctant to finish a book as I often don't want it to end, but on this occasion, I completed it with a certain amount of relief and very little satisfaction.

A debut described as a psychological revenge thriller. It’s described as being a comedy but to me it’s more light hearted than ROFL

It’s told in the first person which is great for really getting into the mindset of the person.
I quite liked the main character she is flawed. I wonder how much of the rage is caused by the rumour, I think I’m making excuses for her 😂
I was even finding her potential candidates for her list 😂

It grabbed my attention straight away, but it lost some of its appeal by half way.
I was disappointed with the ending.

I think people who loved the CJ Skuse Rhiannon books would like this.

Angela went through a lot in her life, the fact that she isn’t even 50 and she went through all that was heartbreaking. All she needed was a break. I’m glad that Preston really did care about her and she did have someone who truly cared about her. I don’t blame her for making the list, the people never had consequences for the actions that they did, it’s like they got rewarded for treating her so badly. I definitely enjoy this book and I really felt for Angela

Wow

I really enjoyed reading this book. What an Idea for a bucket list. I could not put the book down. I had to know what happened. I guessed the ending but I thought she would do it. Emelle Adams. Awesome book. Thanks for writing it.

3.5. This was a great concept and I loved the idea of the book but the last 50 pages just fell flat. There were sooo many different ways this book could have gone to make it better but the end just wasn’t enough for me I suppose.

I liked the premise for this story it’s an innovative idea and the story moves along at an excellent pace. I didn’t warm to some of the characters but I still found the story engrossing. 4* from me

Better than a murder mystery. The narrator becoming unreliable threw me off a little, but in the end, it was all logical and well-written. Brilliant book!

Had some great perspective on the guilt felt by the abused. Loved the concept didn't care for the first twist. The second kind of made up for it but not really. It's slow moving which is fine if the ending is worth it. For me this one wasn't. It only gets a three ⭐ for the overall plot.

Well that was 2 weeks I won't get back. I overhyped this book since I received it and was really excited for some homegrown literature but it just felt so pointless.

I absolutely did not like any of the characters one but; were we supposed to be rooting for Angela? I found it all rather farfetched and unbelievable; I mean some of the reasons that she was getting revenge on people were just so laughable. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse the ending happened and it was all over the place to the point I didn't know what was going on.

There were some bits that I enjoyed but they were so few that it is hard to put my finger on them. I did really enjoy it being set in my home country and to hear about places that I personally knew of.

I'm so disappointed and I really don't think I can continue in this series.
