Savannah looked forward to her first day at a new school. She tried to make friends, but the giraffes in her class thought she was too tall.
With no one to play with, Savannah focused on her schoolwork. Would this prepare her for the day her classmates were in danger? The day when Savannah would have to decide if she would help the giraffes that had been mean to her.
In The Too Tall Giraffe, join Savannah as she learns The Too Tall Giraffe is a vibrant picture book perfect We are all different in our looks, interests, and skills.
Christine Maier is an author, coach, and speaker empowering individuals and organizations to turn obstacles into opportunities to understand their beauty, purpose, and power.
Christine spent years believing a cleft lip and palate, being the shortest kid in class, and a learning disability were holding her back. But the opposite was true. They taught her that what makes us different is really the foundation for understanding our superpowers.
The Too Tall Giraffe is the debut book for Christine Maier in children’s literature and delivers the message to children that being different is okay. This story follows Savannah, a giraffe that is much taller than her schoolmates and it makes her feel shy and self-conscious because she is “different” at her new school. Savannah tries her best to fit in or to even avoid her schoolmates, but she faces the challenges of being the new giraffe in school, being different than the other giraffes and she has to find her acceptance, encompass her inner “superpower” and overcome the “bullies”. This book is a must have particularly for ages 4-8 but can be meant for anyone who feels they are different than everyone around them. The Too Tall Giraffe is a great book to be used in schools, library programs or with your own children that prompts discussions of how different is not bad or wrong but good and right because there is nothing wrong being different. Sometimes what makes us different is the very thing that is a value that everyone else needs. A five-star read for children all around. I already have purchased a few copies for my nieces!
Written for the youngest readers, ages 4-8 years old, this book follows 4 year old Savannah the giraffe going to school. When Savannah arrives she discovers that she is much taller than the other giraffes and they distrust her immediately. She looks for friends but unfortunately, no one wants to befriend her. After several incidences of questionable manners, Savannah realizes that no one is interested in her because she is too tall. Then something happens and Savannah height saves the day.
Savannah learned that her height was an advantage and was useful to her friends.
This was a positive book about celebrating differences. As a tall girl, I would probably put this book on my classroom shelf.
A wonderful children's Story about that shows that no matter if you look different, you are important , . believe in yourself and find your super power, The Illustrations are fabulous . 5 stars I recommend this book to children 5 and over
One of the criteria for a good children’s book is that that story attracts the child from the very beginning and that the parents and educators enjoy the story as well, and embarrassing its lesson. Also, the distinctive cover immediately hints what the book might be about.
For the story itself, the author wisely picks us issues that typically bother kids in class and outdoor, and use them to build the nerrative about acceptance and appreciation.
The use of personal names such as Savanna, Forest and Mrs. Lead is a smart way to bring the reader and listener to the atmosphere of the story.
Overall, I gave this book 5 stars for the focused, engaging and well-written story, it’s important lesson and all the additional points specified above.
This is a lovely story about embracing differences and finding your own strengths and superpowers despite what others may think or say about you. I like the idea of a giraffe being too tall. She ends up being the only who could help others and warn her friends about the danger when the lions appear, and was able to help get leaves on the tall trees when the others were not tall enough to reach. There was something a little odd about the formatting of the ebook though and it showed the spread with half at the top and half at the bottom.
Like this story. The art is entertaining. Loved the idea the author presented of being different as a strength. Appreciate that the story is set in the savanna and that it revolves around the idea of friendship and friends and differences. Like the idea of a too tall giraffe. As a children’s story it is a great message for children to learn. I really like the twist on the ugly duckling story.
Working with students with differentiated learning abilities, I always marvel at how adept they truly are. This story celebrates the differences that many of us have and how unique that quality makes us. Not the same, and that's a good thing. Very good book and a quick read.

Worthy lesson for young and the old who have forgotten
Well illustrated children's book with a powerful message. The tale about Savannah, the "too tall" giraffe, is an apt analogy for the discrimination some children/adults receive because of their differences.
