A young woman, Aisha, is found dead on a beach on the island of Zanzibar. The police have ruled her death a suicide. Why wouldn’t they? She had no injuries, and there were no signs of a struggle.
But something is not right.
Her body was cold as ice. The sand around her was frozen solid. She was found over 10 kilometers away from her home. She had just been accepted to a prestigious University in Europe.
Why would she kill herself?
When the parents of the deceased struggle to find answers to the mysterious death of their child, they hire Ibrahim Mubarak, a young private detective from mainland Tanzania, to find the truth.
In Zanzibar, stories are rarely written down. They are told and passed down from generation to generation. In fact, it is common to greet somebody by saying "leta stori", literally meaning "give me a story".
Inspired by the stories that my parents and grandparents shared with me growing up, I decided to write some of my own.
