Christmas Day Joyous

Rate this book
Savor the warmth of the season with this special collection of twelve short stories from Rebekah A. Morris's Christmas Collection!

The holidays can bring unexpected stress--a ruined school play, a Christmas Eve break-in, or a crowd of stranded motorists. But they're also packed with opportunities for family togetherness--for healing old wounds, rediscovering simple pleasures, and reviving old traditions. They're full of chances to show love to strangers--a college friend sharing a family celebration, a lonely child looking for shelter from the cold, or an immigrant family bravely trying to make a home. And above all, they're a time of miracles--an unplanned meeting in a blizzard that mends a broken family, an open door that ushers in an unexpected reunion, and a set of unforeseen delays that result in a perfectly-timed rescue.

Whether your holiday ideal involves snowballs and sledding, shows and singing, or sacrifice and sharing, you're sure to find it here, along with a large serving of the true meaning of Christmas!

Rebekah A. Morris has lived her entire life (as of now) in Missouri. Being home educated during her school years was great, except for writing. That was the worst subject (along with math) that she had to do. It wasn't until after she graduated that she discovered the joys and wonder of writing. Now she can't write enough. After spending six years in research and writing, she completed her first book, "Home Fires of the Great War," a 500+ page, historical fiction about home life in the United States and Canada during the First World War. Since then, she has been an avid writer and always has more than one story going on at once because only one story at a time got tiring and dull.

2/2023 This book lifted my spirits over the melancholy holidays. I look forward to reading it again the next Christmas season - maybe even before then.

The Christmas She Wanted
5 stars. This is one of my favorites of the Chirstmas Collection. It was so, so REAL. I loved it. The family was so real, the situation, the cabin. . . I could see it all. It was amazing. I loved, loved the theme—what Christmas is really like.

A Favourite Quote: To each of them the story held a new meaning. Always before they had rushed through the day, spending time playing games on their electronic gadgets, complaining when they had to do things, picking on their siblings and going to bed thinking only of the presents they would get in the morning, never really taking the time to understand the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus Christ didn’t come to get everything He could from life; He came to give. And that Gift was for each person who would accept it.
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “It sure is snowing,” Mrs. Rush remarked. “I hope it doesn’t keep up.”
There was no answer from the back seats, and after a quick glance back, Mrs. Rush looked over at her husband. “I think, Oliver, we could safely mention what their Christmas presents were going to be this year and no one would even know.”

At the Christmas Lodge
4.7 stars (5/10 hearts). What a sweet story!! I found tears in my eyes at the ending. This author has an amazing gift of transporting you within the story. I saw and felt everything Des did. The winter and the Christmas feeling was beautiful. <3 And the romance was so sweet. :) I enjoyed the humour too. ;) The snow sculpture was very true to Des’ and Dunny’s nationality (though as a Canadian I was slightly annoyed). ;) This was just such a sweet, sweet book!! ❤️

A Favourite Beautiful Quote: ...by the light of the Christmas lights and the lamp out front, she could see flakes, large and small, silently sifting down, swirling now and then when a gust of wind sent them dancing, adding their own flakes to the millions already blanketing the ground, the trees and everywhere. It was all so pretty, so different than anything Desirae had ever seen before that she forgot all else in the wonder of the wintery night.
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “Why, this is fun!” Lesley exclaimed. “I want a pair [of snowshoes] for Christmas!”
Joe laughed. “Where would you wear them? On the beach?” He knew that Lesley lived in Southern California where there was no snow.
“I’ll just have to move up north, or,” she added, as she stumbled, “maybe not.”

Christmas Smiles
3 stars. This book didn’t end up like I thought it would, but it was sweet and carried me into the setting so well...

A Favourite Quote: “Listen to me, Laina. ... You are telling yourself a lie. No one is perfect, but everything is not your fault either. And you can do things right. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.”

Christmas Eve at the Backdoor
3 stars. As always, Rebekah Morris’ descriptions enabled me to envision the setting perfectly in my head. The little twists in the story constantly surprised me, and I enjoyed the sweet, family love.

A Favourite Quote: Every year the Kabrick family had made it a point to give at least one gift to a family less fortunate than themselves. “We may not have much,” Mrs. Kabrick had often told her children, “but there are others who have even less. And we have something that money can’t buy; we have love.” Her children all seemed to catch the true spirit of Christmas, for their first talk of gifts in December were not about what they wanted but about what they could give someone else.
A Favourite Humorous Quote: For a moment Mrs. Kabrick could only stare at the gifts on the table in bewilderment. “Surely, Reverend, there must be a mistake.... These don’t all belong here.”
“Well, if they don’t, you’ll have to find some other Kabrick family to give them to, for I know of only one in the entire town and surrounding farms.”

Home for Christmas
5 stars. What a sweet story!! I loved Robert and now care for Susanna. I loved the message of hope with which the story closed. I loved the message. It was just so sweet <33

A Favourite Quote: “When I think that Jesus left all the glories of heaven to be born in a barn and then grow up working, only to die on the cross for me, how can I complain about a few chores?”
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “Well,” Robert whispered, pulling out his watch and looking at it in the moonlight, “shall we try to slip in unnoticed? Or shall we rouse the whole house? It’s officially Christmas morning as of five seconds ago.”

Christmas Delays & Other Short Stories
5 stars. What a sweet collection!! I loved every one of the stories in here. Christmas Delays was just sweet and happy. My favourite was Peter’s Christmas (we need a sequel!!!). And I loved I’ll Be Home For Christmas. <33

A Favourite Quote: “Honey, aren’t you even a little upset about being delayed for the fifth time today?”
Linda looked surprised. “Why should I be? It wasn’t your fault. Besides, I haven’t had this much fun since I went camping with my Girl Scout Troop and a huge rain storm came up.”

A Favourite Humorous Quote: “I can’t believe we are actually going to spend Christmas with my folks,” Linda’s voice showed her excitement.
“Now honey,” Dave spoke gravely though the corners of his mouth twitched, and when he glanced at his wife, his eyes twinkled. “Don’t get too excited, we have three more tires that may need changed.”

First Christmas in America
4.7 stars (5/10 hearts). What a sweet story! I loved the cheerfulness of the family and the simpleness of their new beginning. Short as it was, the characters and backstory was well done and I loved the ending.

A Favourite Quote: “God has been good to us.”
Papa nodded. “Yah, Mama, God has been good to us. Ve have a house, I have a job after Christmas, and ve are all together again. Let us thank Him.”

A Favourite Humorous Quote: “I wish it were clean already!”
“My impatient Polina,” Papa chuckled with a shake of his head. “I fear the cleaning von’t do itself.”

A Christmas Disaster
4 stars. I really enjoyed this little story. As with almost all of this author's books, the realisticness sucked me in and I saw everything. She did a wonderful job with developing Derek's, Bennett's, Mia's, and Jerry's characters with such limited space and time. My only remark is that according to the Bible, the wise men didn't actually come to the stable. Aside that, I really enjoyed this story.

A Favourite Quote: “That story used to be read to me every Christmas when I was a child, but when I grew older I thought I had outgrown it. But I realized just now that no one can outgrow it. How can you outgrow such love as that? Love big enough to leave the glories of heaven to be born in a stable with smelly animals and then live and die so that others might live. Such love is beyond my understanding.”
A Favourite Humorous Quote: When the noise died down, Mr. Sheets attempted to scowl fiercely as he thundered, “Who put you up to this? Who told you it was my birthday?”
“Mrs. Sheets did[,” said Mia. “]And besides,” she added sweetly, “it’s always your birthday on the 14th of December.”

Christmas Quilts
3.7 stars (4/10 hearts). If there’s one thing Rebekah Morris can do well, it’s setting. I’ve been in snowstorms like Olivia’s, though it never got that bad, and the setting was accurate and drew me in so well. The plot was interesting and I enjoyed this story.

A Favourite Humorous Quote: “I love snow, but getting stuck because of two snowstorms was not on my want-to-do-sometime list.”

A Police Force for Christmas
4.7 stars (5/10 hearts). I loved the plot of this story! Such a good reminder about what the police force does for us. The kids were precious and I loved their interaction! ;)

A Favourite Quote: She realized for the first time that the officers who had responded to her call had all been working on Christmas Day. They hadn’t been home enjoying the holiday with their families. And they weren’t the only ones helping keep the citizens of Pineville safe.
A Favourite Humorous Quote: “And here comes Captain Reagan with your children.”
Amanda looked up, and a slight smile crossed her face. The captain looked more like the Pied Piper than a police officer, as, with a twin in either arm and the other five children tagging along behind him, he stepped into the kitchen.

A Crazy, Crowded Christmas
4 stars. What a fun story!! Although I was cringing every time someone new came in, knowing how hard it would be to find place for them, in the end this book taught me a message of hospitality without counting the cost—something I need to work on. ;) I loved how though many of the characters appeared briefly, they were well done and interesting. And I love the Christmas service they had at the end! Such a grand idea. I really enjoyed this story, and it just made me smile and left me happy and contented.

A Favourite Quote: Hurrying from the room, Diane went to the linen closet and began stacking the blankets on the floor. “Can I help with something?” A sweet voice asked.
Surprised, Diane glanced over her shoulder and saw one of the college girls in the hall. “If you want to carry a stack of blankets to the living room, that would be helpful.”

A Favourite Humorous Quote: And then the chorus rang out and filled the room as the shepherds quaked and trembled and the sheep continued to move around–much like puppies, Diane thought.

Providence Christmas
5 stars. Oh my word, what a sweet story!! I loved it so much. Mercy was such a loveable, pathetic character and I loved the Coopers so much! Even Sally sounded wonderful, and the little boy was darling. I just loved the message and the setting and the storyline and everything, really!! :) It made my heart so happy.

A Favourite Quote: How could I have forgotten that Jesus didn’t have a place to lay His head when He came to earth? How could I have forgotten that He had known hunger too?
A Favourite Humorous Quote: I wondered at all the people who sent Christmas greetings with pictures of snow on the front. Did they think that every place on earth had snow at Christmas time?

What delightful Christian Christmas stories! These are set in many different time periods and the only thing that might make them better, is starting each new story with a date. They seem arraigned half hazardly, keeping the reader on their toes!
I enjoyed the narrator very much. While she wasn't perfect, she was very enjoyable!
