Well that was unexpected. I only recently started reading YA novels, maybe about 4 years ago. And even more recently started reading fantasy novels (a few months ago). It pains me to think of how many wonderful novels I missed and would have continued to miss if I hadn’t broken out of my comfort zone.
This is a magical romance of sorts between London and the boy of her literal dreams, Ethan. London is having some sort of existential crisis (what 17 year old isn’t???) when Ethan appears in her dreams. Someone said it’s part “Every Day” and “The Time Traveler’s” wife and I agree, but I also get a warm and fuzzy “To All the Boys I Loved Before” vibe as well. Definitely check it out.

Give this book a shot till the very end!

Zee Lacson displays a great amount of talent and creativity in her debut novel, Reverie. I discovered this book via the Young Writers Facebook group page. I was hoping to support an indie author and gave the book a blind shot. I was unsure what to expect, which is probably why the beginning of the book did not hold my interest.
I thought this book was just not aimed at my demographic as a 20-year-old man, but as the story went on, I could not help but find myself swept up in the romance and the fantastical elements of the book. Though I found the beginning of the romance a little rushed, it started to find more ways to get me invested as time went on.
The next element I want to discuss is the main character, which I really enjoyed. She was well written with certain attitudes and characteristics that reminded me of some of my friends in Highschool. Overall she was a fun main character who you could tell in some way or form probably represented the author herself.
Then off to the side characters who I found myself also growing to love as the book carries on, first off the father who is just an amazing dad through and through. And the next character I do not want to spoil, so I will say there is a certain character who you expect to be one thing but, in a twist, ends up holding an unexpected relationship with the main character. She could have been better written but still a nice twist. Then comes what you think maybe a love triangle with another character but is instead another clever subversion as Zee introduces my favorite character in the whole novel.
And then there is the ending I will not spoil; all I have to say is do not give up on it. There seemed to be an annoying plot hole I did not enjoy, but the author fixes it in such a way that it makes you view the rest of the book in an entirely new way.
Finally, the amazing cover art is so professional that I often forgot I was reading a self-published novel.
Overall I would rate this book a 4.5, but I will give it 5 stars so more can see it and pick it up. I am excited to see what the author works on in the future.

Mystical realism is not normally my genre, however Lacson has a way to move smoothly from realism to wool gathering it makes sense. The story is engaging and London exemplifies today’s teen while showing true emotions. I was worried about how Lacson was going to pull off making the story believable TO ME while keeping the magic flowing, but she successfully achieves it. It all ties together gracefully. As an adult reader, I love how she ties in many innuendos and lessons to the teen readers, while making the entire story so real. Definitely recommend!

Wonderful debut novel! It was such a thrill to read that gave me Time Traveler's Wife feels. A perfect balance of fantasy and reality. And just when you think you've got it figured out? You don't.

I. Could. Not. Put. This. Book. Down.

This is a cross between Audrey Niffenger’s The Time Traveler's Wife and Every Day by David Levithan. Both of which are some of my favorite books.

“OK,” he said. “What’s going on?”

“You’re a figment of my imagination,” I said brightly. The bench gave way a little as he leaned back, crossing his arms across his chest and stretching his legs. “I’m a figment of your imagination?”

I popped more candy into my mouth. It melted on contact and was made sweeter by his presence. “Uh-huh,” I nodded.

“You have a sadistic imagination, then.”

I got sucked in from the very beginning. London and Ethan were such lovable characters to get to know and they were intelligent characters. Immature teenage main characters in YA is a pet peeve of mine.

This book REALLY takes you on a ride. The author truly makes you question many plot points on the magical realism element and that’s why I felt like this book was so hard to put down. IS London sane? The pacing was also right on the money. I’ve struggled with pacing on magical realism books before. But this was such a good balance of London’s conflicts in her dreams and how they are affecting her in her daily life.

I would say this book IS bordering on the Instalove trope. BUT I found it to be executed wonderfully because I was invested from the start and remained that way.

I saw this going in many different directions getting closer towards the end and I was so happy with which path was taken for these cast of characters. I was getting nervous when I saw how many pages I had left and wasn’t sure it could be wrapped up properly; I stood corrected and at that there were several “WHAT!” plot twists that kept punching.

Pick this up!!!

Hello. I have read the first book, and it was absolutely amazing, I was hooked on it from the start, I got it two days before I noticed she had a book signing in the area, so I knew I needed to read this fast, sometimes its a task for me but with this book it was not what so ever. The plot was very easy to follow, I love romance and mystery, there were so many plot twists in this book that made it even more amazing. My personal favorite parts are when they first meet each other, and when the boy go's to the military which gave him a purpose in life, as long as the girl did. It was a beautiful and tragic love story between two teenagers, I am just now starting to read the second book, and it already has me hooked. I love this book, a very good recommendation.

But anyways, definitely get this book.

A book that makes you smile, giggle, wonder, and dream! Zee's turn of phrase and keen word choice made the book enjoyable and left the reader eager to keep reading. Young love mixed with adventure and bewilderment made "Reverie" a book that I'll suggest to all who are looking for a bit of light, cheerful, can't-put-it-down page turning. London and Ethan are a couple for the ages! Thanks Zee for such a wonderful story of wool gathering :)

I felt like London … when I put down this book, I kept thinking about the characters. I enjoyed this book, even as “young adult” I was very intrigued right from the beginning of the book. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This was a nice romance with a little more on the line than normal. I had a good time reading it, experience a large range of emotions all the while.

Im having a hard time believing the positive reviews....
I purchased the paperback version. The cover is pretty cute, eye catching and has a nice feel. That's about all the positive I can muster for this book. The pages were very thin and the ink bleed through was incredibly distracting.
Now onto the story/writing. It did not flow well at all. It read notchy and mechanical. Great vocabulary however it was all just filler and proved more confusing than anything. Several chunks of dialogue were missing end quotations and made it difficult to determine when the spoken dialogue ended and inner thought started. Several instances I also found it difficult to even distinguish which character was speaking.
There is nothing romantic about the mental illness and debilitating obsession this young girl has over a boy in her dreams. This story had the potential to be quite cute if done properly. This girl was destroying her physical and mental health over some guy she dreamed of.... its just sickening and terribly disturbing! I've never wished a book would end so badly.
Most of the characters were incredibly bland unless of course that was the point since the girl was so antisocial? She even at some point made friends with a great boy that she didn't have to dream to spend time with but he just gets ignored.
I don't want to give any specifics away and while it did have a happy ending it was rushed and lackluster. I should have been shedding tears of happiness but the magic was nonexistent. Again disturbing how it panned out and nothing romantic about it. I guess just read it if you are into this sort of thing. I'm a huge sucker for romance but this book was far too disturbing to even enjoy the "happy ending" I swear if I rolled my eyes one more time by the unsatisfactory way this panned out they would have rolled right out of my skull.
Don't waste your time on this unless you are perhaps a masochist.

I think this book became one of my favorite reads this fall. I want to start with how much I love the cover and its relevance to the story. Seeing how the main character, London carries her experience in coming in and out of what appears to be her dream is one that I find quite interesting. There was not a moment where I would want to DNF this book because it was that addictive. I couldn't help but wait for the next chapter just to see her interaction with the primary male character to figure out what was going on and if he truly was real. Additionally, I was not expecting all the sudden tension toward the end! This book is a reminder as to why I enjoy indie reads, and that is because there is so much more depth and something new to offer that I usually don't often see elsewhere. Overall, I enjoyed the concept of this book and would recommend it to readers who love switching between two different worlds.

this book was incredible!!! I think we typically approach a YA book with certain expectations, but this book was unexpected in the BEST ways! such an intriguing plot with interesting characters that leave you wanting to learn more and more. I laughed and cried along with them, and couldn't put the book down for the last 20% because I just HAD to know what happens! diving into book 2 ready for more!

I have personally known this author since I was a young teen. it was such an amazing experience to read this book and see how she poured her heart and soul into this story! I say that in hopes you will read this book excited for this lovingly crafted story!

I picked up this book due to a recommendation. I am NOT sorry I did! As an adult reading a YA book, I can attest to its ability to sustain interest. London's characterization drew me into the story, and her experiences kept me there. I could not wait to get my hands on Book 2.

Someone else said it best by simply saying "cute romance with a whimsical twist". It's exactly that and I loved it. I read all 3 in the series so fast. It's a real world setting with a slight fantasy twist. I really liked these books.

Ok! It only took me a month (because I was busy with school and work) but I finally finished Reverie!!! So I liked this book but it was not my favorite. The beginning of the book wasn't completely enticing to me because I am not big into sci-fi type novels. However, once I got to around page 200 I was hooked. I loved the romance aspect of the story and the realistic aspect that the book provided when it comes to moving and such.
Some things that I did not enjoy about this book would be how the dialogue was really hard to follow. The author put multiple lines of dialogue in one paragraph and it would be multiple characters speaking which was very confusing. Second, the book never really tells you how London was with Ethan in her 'dreams'. It was just kind of confusing to me.
Overall, it was a decent book. It just wasn't my cup of tea when it came to the sci-fi part.
