GENRE - HISTORY

An interesting book on the courageous Ahom Military General Lachit Borphukan from the North East region of India.Ironically our history text books haven’t mentioned the history and importance of the Ahom clan aswell as one of the most important battles “The battle of Saraighat”.

Shivajis Maratha clan from the Deccan, Maharana Pratap from Rajputana, Guru Gobind Singh from the Sikh clan of the North west India and Lachit Burphukan and the Ahom Clan from the north east region of India where the ones who challenged the Moghuls in the subcontinent. The book is about the Mogul expedition and invasion of the Ahom empire which specifically speaks about the role of Lachit Borphukan in detail. The book is well researched and very informative, the author has managed to make a historical novel a very interesting read by narrating the entire episode is simple and easy language.

I hope to see a web series or movie on the Ahom Kingdom specially made on the Great General Lachit Borphukan also I believe our history textbooks should cover the North Eastern Indian history in our History Syllabus.

Thank You 🙏

I am to be real honest not a history buff. I have never heard of the character before and i am truly ashamed.

The book is written very smoothly and it doesnt feel like there is any lag. The flow of the story as well as the premise impressed me too much. I am definktely going to read more about this if i hopefully find any other literature on it.

The characters are written amazingly and do not appear one dimensional. A good book overall. The author has done a thorough research. And Assam feels more close.

Lachit Borphukan is one of the greatest Assamese personalities to have ever walked in the face of the planet. His valor is so great that the Assam household still celebrate his birthday as Lachit Divas.

However, as the author has stated correctly, the traditional history textbooks haven't done justice to brave heart nationalist and those who are not from the state don't have much knowledge about him.

I admit that in my academic days, I don't recall reading much about Lachit Borphukan, either.
But, there was a recent controversy in the month of March, wherein some claimed that his reference was made ignorantly during a speech, and my interest was piqued to know more about the warrior.

So, when I got the chance to read the book: ‘The Legend of Lachit Borphukan’ by Nilutpal Gohain, I devoured it within days.

Till this date, Lachit Borphukan is still being remembered as the greatest military hero of Assam, best known for his Battle of Saraighat. However, not much light is shed on the other aspects of his journey, like it was done in this book. We get to read about a warrior who was not only brave but also courageous, the one who managed to do things which were deemed impossible by the others.

It is often observed that whatever decisions we take that are slightly against what is expected, we will face questions and there will always be a faction of people who will be against it. However, Lachit stood firm in everything that he did and wasn't the one who would be swayed easily, thus making him immortal.

Writing about a historical book can be an extremely critical job, for the sole reason that people worshipping the legend about whom the story is written about, might get offended even at a slightest discrepancy. A lot of research needs to be done to get all the facts correct. And in this, I think the author has done a commendable job of getting everything together and writing a masterpiece. Considering this, I am going to give this book FIVE BRAVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Historical fiction has been a popular genre in recent times however not much has been heard or written about Assam's historical figures. We all have heard about maharana pratap or shivaji resisting the Mughals but very few outside Assam are aware of Lachit Barphukan. This is a novel which mostly focuses on the battle of Itakhuli and Saraighat in the 17th century when the ahom forces were successful in warding of the armies of Aurangzeb, perhaps the only kingdom to do so in the Indian sub-continent. The book is a reservoir of information on the Ahom civil, military and diplomatic administration. Yet it is not didactic or academic in nature. One gets to learn a great deal while the story moves at a fast pace. I loved the end battle scene which kept me hooked even though I know which army wins. But one needs to keep a track of all the characters, I did get lost once in a while. There are too many of them yet each is important. I am glad I picked this up because I learnt a lot about the workings of the Ahoms. Unfortunately inspite of being from Assam i hailing from a cbse background weren't taught much about them. Doesn't justify my lack of efforts too though! Another thing I liked was how ram singh's character as the hindu general of a muslim army is portrayed. Pick this up if you want an action packed novel while having a history lesson.
Thank you nilutpal for writing this... We need more books in English to be written on our history so that someday our bir lachit too is known by all.

First of all, this is the first time am reading about the great commander Lachit Borphukam of Ahom's army under the monarch of Chakradhwaj Singha and am amused. I have failed to know him all these years and I am confident that many people like me might have failed as well and this book wiped away the common ignorance and tells people about this revolutionary legend. He is the one to face the Mughals with all the bravery to save his province and the battle of Saraighat speaks his courage. The narration makes the book better and kept me hooked up taking me back to the past. It's really hard to write a history book and we know it needs lots of research, kudos to the author for making it possible without flaws. The language was lucid, neutral and natural .and subtle carrying the facts beautifully. Each incident is well described and can't find any void or deviation in the whole plot and this makes me picturesque
all the events eventually. One thing I learned from his life is to hold up to my viewpoint with all the vigour and face things boldly. I appreciate the effort of the author and others who have planned to make it a movie and that is obviously going to be a blockbuster! A perfect read for all the history lovers who love to know about the heroes of the past. I am out of words to actually explain how much I enjoyed the book. As the author suggested one must read beyond the textbook to know the "actual" history. Okay guys in nutshell, just grab the book , make yourself comfortable and indulge into this book and it will transport you to the old days and screen you everything perfectly.

How strange it is to ignore the history of India from the northeast and not give the correct values and honour to those heroes, what is even sad is that they are not even mentioned in our history textbooks in the education boards which consider themselves as of national level.

This is an ultimately researched and well-written story because while reading this, I got intrigued to know a few terms even more like buranjis etc and to my surprise, the author has used them in the correct manner which shows that he has not just written it rather has put a great potential of research to present it. The story of Lachit has not been presented from page 1, which would rather have been abrupt, rather it comes around 20 pages later after an insight into the background a, few terms and history of the place has been given which showcases a great style of narration.

The greatest fights in history were not among equals, rather those Bravehearts who knew their size is small but their will determination and talent isn’t and Lachit’s leadership showcased this in various times. There were so many lines in the narrations that touched me like when the Alaboi plains war was lost, even the strongest felt overwhelmed when misfortune struck them.It showcased that no matter how much of a strong fighter a person was, still they didn't give up but also they were humans only and thereby they too had emotions. I feel honoured to know more about Lachit Borphukan and his tremendous story

The land of India has given us many brave warriors, men of valor. But the problem is that they often get lost in the world of history. We never get to read about this legends in school and the result is that we don't even know their names or the battles that they fought, unless and until some author or movie directors decide to bring their story forward. I would like to thanks Nilutpal Gohain to give me a chance to know about this legendary person.

The Ahom kingdom is invaded by the mughals and where made to sign a treaty that took away all their respect and freedom. They started to live in a world of injustice. At this point of despair and struggle, rises a legend who fought with the mughals with his all his bravery and gave them a great fight. His name was Lachit Borphukan, the commander of Ahom army under the monarch Chakradhwaj Singha. He fought the battle of Saraighat.

This book is a bundle of information and knowledge with the story of one of the greatest hero of Nation. This combination makes the book more intriguing and interesting. The amount of research done by author is appreciable. After reading this book you get to know not only about Lachit Borphukan but also about the history of Assam, the Ahom dynasty. The narration is excellent and the fast paced story is a great thing. I am really happy to pick this book.

This book is a great read and every Indian should read this and the lovers of historical or the books of information should try this.

When I first got to know about the book 'The Legend of Lachit Borphukan' I felt blowned up. Not because I have heard the name for the first time, but the story I confronted left me amazed that such great stories of revolutionaries and bravery still remains unknown to a huge population. The festivals celebrated on his birthday as Lachit diwas should not only be celebrated in Assam, but nationwide. Lachit Borphukan, the commander of Ahom army of Assam's monarch Chakradhwaj Singha. The mighty Mughals are always known for breaking and reforming treaty with the kingdoms leading to their downfall and the same policy Aurangzeb was following for Ahom dynasty. But, the rise of brave Lachit helped to face the war with the Mughals face to face. The brave efforts of Lachit's determination and bravery remains encrypted in the hearts of the people. When I got to know that it will be the story of a movie soon from MOTION PICTURES, I imagined it's success before that seemed as similar to Tanhaji, the unsung warrior, the right hand of Shivaji Maharaj. With a great narration and deep gripping events, the book made my to hit the pillow of excitement. Being a proud Indian I would recommend every one to read this one reason to be proud again.

Book - THE LEGEND OF LACHIT BORPHUKAN
Author - NILUTPAL GOHAIN
.
This book is an amazing thriller, it’s so interesting I got to learn so many things from this book. I am really impressed with the author’s attempt at this one!
.
Did you know? Lachit Borphukan was a commander and Borphukan (Phu-Kon-Lung) in the Ahom kingdom, located in present-day Assam, India, known for his leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat that thwarted a drawn-out attempt by Mughal forces under the command of Ramsingh I to take over Ahom kingdom. He died about a year later due to illness.
.
One of my favourite tales of him is - The Battle of Saraighat was the last battle in the last major attempt by the Mughals to extend their empire into Assam. Though the Mughals managed to regain Guwahati briefly later after a Borphukan deserted it, the Ahoms wrested control in the Battle of Itakhuli in 1682 and maintained it till the end of their rule.
.
For me, a good thriller must teach me something about the real world. Thrillers like 'Coma,' 'The Hunt for Red October' and 'The Firm' all captivated me by providing glimpses into realms about which I knew very little about. This book too is absolutely amazing and a must read!

Growing up, the subject of history has been an integral part of our school curriculum. Inspite of studying the said subject for so long, it is quite unfortunate that we still don't know the stories of many eminent personalities, who had contributed so much to our society.
It is quite unfortunate to know that slowly these names disappear from the pages of history.

One such is Lachit Borphukan, who was a legendary figure in Assam's rich history. His legendary achievements as the military General of Ahom dynasty against the Mughal empire as well as in the Battle of Saraighat. A truly incredible feat, isn't it? Unfortunately, this incredible tale is not known much outside of Assam.

Well, the author has done a great work in countering that, and bring forth the true essence of the adventurous battle. The intense detailing clearly shows the amount of research the author has put in, in order to write this book. Kudos!

•The cover of the book is well designed, and brings out the essence of the book

•The plot of this book is well constructed.

•The narration is quiet crisp and clear.

• The characters are well developed and have various layers to them.

•The language used by the author is quite lucid.

• The author has done thorough research for this book.

I remember when I was kid, my mother gifted me the Amar Chitra Katha of Lachit Borphukan. But its been quite a few years since I read the book, and I remember the story in fragments. So when I got chance to revisit the story again, I didn't miss the chance.
.
This book is about Lachit Borphukhan, who showed great bravey and leadership during the Battle of Saraighat. His stories are still famous in Assam. It's so sad that people in other part of India do not know much about him. What is even sadder that our history books fail to chronicle the bravery of Lachit Borphukhan.
.
This book is well-researched and well-narrated. While writing a bool based on. historical personality or an event it is very important to get the facts right. And the author has done a great job in that. I liked how the author has given us a little bit of background about the situation in northeast, about the tribes that ruled there rather than directly starting with the story of Lachit Borphukhan. Thay background helped in understanding the situation better.
.
I am so glad i picked this book and sad too that I missed out on not knowing about such a great person sooner. I would really want everyone to give this book at least one read.

Do you have interest in history? Well, I have much so I chose this book. History is hard when read in books but it becomes easy to understand when filmed. People often say that no one reads the history and literally hate reading rather they only enjoy when it's projected or narrated after us.

Lachit Borphukan is an un-putdownable book which tells about lachit borphukan, a war hero in the time of Aurangzeb. The Ahom kingdom was suffering a great loss after the heavy invasion done by a Mughal subedar. The Ahom kingdom suffers a great loss by signing the treaty with Mughals which has ultimately reduced the morale and living conditions of the Assamese people. At this junction, a valiant commander of the Ahom army rises of payback. He takes a small amount of people with him to fight one of the largest naval army in the whole history of India. Will they succeed in availing their rights or Aurangzeb has some trick up his sleeves?

It's a good book packed with action. Soon, it is going to be converted into a film and its going to be exciting. And from now, history has become easy to understand through this way of filming everything. The author had perfectly explained and plotted the scenes. Nice book.

When we hear the term Mughlas, we generally have North India in mind. To an extend central India. Delhi, most of the time remains in the focus. When we talk about Akbar, Agra is the focus. This is the case because that's how we have been taught history in our schools. But the Mughal history has so much more than just the valour of the Mughal Kings. The Mughals, as is the perception did not win every single battle they fought. From time to time they came across courageous armies led by extravagant Generals. This book is a story of LACHIT BORPHUKAN. One of the greatest warriors to have fought against the Mughals. The story of Lachil is awe inspiring. What makes this book worth its gold is the amount of research the author has put. Assam as we know it today wasn't the same 5 centuries ago, to ensure that the history of Assam is told even through a fictional writing is commendable effort from the author.

The quality of writing is as good as it can get. There's paucity in the writing. It's not over flowing. It's no dramatic writing just for the sake of it. Overall it's a fantastic read, and I cannot wait to see this book being turned into a motion picture. For me it's a 5 star read for sure.

The Legend of Lachit Borphukan By Nilutpal Gohain @ngohain

To begin with I have read a lot of historical fiction but never read about the Assamese history this was the very first time I was reading about it and I don’t think I could lay my hands on any better book than this. “Legend of Lachit Borphukan” by one summed a lot about the unsung hero and the battles he fought. The book revolves around him who was one of the greatest warriors who fought against Mughals. Extensive research is done by the author and the way he’s put the facts and figures and re created the era in the book is commendable. I would call it history subject mixed well with entertainment. As great insights are provided about Assamese history without getting you bored. Lachit Borphukan is a war hero in the times of Aurangzeb. He with a small amount of people fights one of the largest naval army and to know more about it I would recommend you to read the book. There is so much to learn from him, his leadership qualities can still be used in your corporate or work life. Readers who aren’t found if history too will enjoy this book as the author has plotted the scenes and characters well just like a film screen play and the ones who love history would definately devour it

Discussing about history is as important as talking about our historical heroes who made this history golden. Even after passing matriculation there was never a disscussion of few historical names that remains immortal in many pwrts of India. Lachit, is among those names. A history lovers' delight!😍❤️😍
It was so refreshing to read this amazing historical saga of the Ahom valour, resilience and staunch love for their land.

We've read tons of history before but hardly ever of our brave and unsung northeastern heroes. Even the names for the posts of their king, army general, diplomats, messengers, etc. like the Swargdeo, Buragohain, Kataki, etc. were very new and interesting to read.

How the Ahoms boldly fought for their land and not only defended it against the immense Mughal might but also posed a tough resistance to them and captured some of their territories back and more despite their limited force and dwindling resources with the use of wit and sheer strategic adeptness was truly incredible.

This book will transport you back in time to the pristine northeast landscapes flanked by the Brahmaputra, Manas river, etc. and grip you in its adventurous tide.

Also, I'm very glad to share that this wonderful book is soon going to be adapted to the big screen by @almighty_motion_picture and I can't wait to watch it.

I never heard the name of this hero of Assam. But, when I read the blurb of this book, I knew I have to read it for sure. The journey of the legend of Lachit Borphukan has made me realize how we are not provided enough knowledge of the heroes of our own country. There are many unsung heroes like Lachit Borphukan about whom we all should be taught from childhood; about their bravery, sacrifice, and love for the country.

Every year, the 24th of November is celebrated as Lachit Divas in Assam to commemorate the heroism of Lachit Borphukan and the victory of the Ahoms in the battle of Saraigot. He stood strong and halted the advance of the Mughal Empire making Ahoms the mighty who defeated Mughals over 17 times.

There is so much more about this hero which everyone should know about. And writing on someone so important and legendary is not everyone’s cup of tea; the author Nilutpal Gohain has done a great job in writing this book and bringing out the journey of this unsung hero.

It is indeed quite a shame that school history textbooks in mainland India never mention anything about Lachit Barpukhan, or for that matter anything about Ahoms or the history of the North East in general. This book gives a quick glimpse of the life and times of Lachit Barpukhan, his military strategy and patriotism; and the impact it had on the Ahom dynasty.

The story revolves around the Ahom commander Lachit Barphukan, along with engrossing account of the events in history that resulted in the Battle of Saraighat and how he fought with the spirit to protect the motherland from the aggressors and lopsided battles against the resourceful Mughal Empire. One of the best historical books I've read. Written in a super simple style and riveting. One of the few books that provide a window to the North East of India, specifically to Assam. And it does that very well. Must read for all history buffs.

A powerful cover to depict and speak out loud the ancient history which is to a movie anytime soon

It is more of a success of this book and I feel honoured to read such piece which has much knowledge of the old era.

Thanks to the author who has introduced us to the legends as this is the truth that rarely people these days has such interests and knowledge of ancient era.

Who was he?
It is important to know and author Mr NILUTPAL GOHAIN has explained everything in detailed which was much needed.
Lachit Borphukan was a commander and Borphukan in the Ahom kingdom, leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat.
Truly agreed that the book is written like an edge of the seat thriller which
transports the reader to an era where the war was at its peak.

Also , I loved some of the pictures which are given in the beginning of the book to get more clarity of the maps and where it all happened.

In the times when India is struggling through the faith of fundamentalism, a story of a lost legend is the best choice for reading. Lachit Borkphukan, a brave soldier of Ahom kingdom in Assam, should have been one of the most iconic historical figures just like Maharana Pratap and Kunwar Singh, but, sadly, his identity is long lost outside Assam. This book is a very profound struggle to reconcile the story of this legend.

First of all, I must say that the author deserves an applaud for performing such a thorough study. This story is from the 1600s when some Mughals almost devastated the Ahom kingdom to satiate their greed for power. This story is going to be converted into a movie soon enough and I'm too excited to watch it as much as I was excited while reading. History is my favorite subject matter and learning more about our lost legends is a kinda passion to me.

I suggest everyone read this book at least once. Rest can wait for the movie.

India is rich in history and is known for some super amazing heroes Lachit Borphukan was one of them.He is one of the precious  gem of our country . But sadly, his bravery is unsung as well as unknown to the people of the country. He is a warrior, a soldier , a brave person from Assam , who fought courageously . He defeated Mughals seventeen times and is known for his bravery in Saraighat.

This book is an attempt to acknowledge the bravery of our soldier. The author has beautifully written about him. The story has a lot of historical elements and tells about Ahom dynasty. He had crossed difficult paths very smoothly and leave everyone astonished. The author has done a thorough research research on the legend, and gives a detailed information.   Assamese celebrate Lachit diwas as a tribute. The Language of the book is simple and lucid. All the characters are well developed. Overall a good read.

This book The Legend of Lachit is written by the author named Nilupal Gohain and it is based upon historical genre. As you all know our history is very popular and so is this book.

The main protagonist of the story is Lachit Borphukan who is from Assam. He is very famous in Assam and loved by the people, so they celebrate his birthday as a festival called Lachit diwas.

This book tells us the great deeds of Lachit who had fought with Mughal's face to face very bravely. The author has done a hard work and his efforts can be seen in this book. I appreciate the author's writing skills. Language used is simple and easy to understand. The cover of the book is superb with the statue of Lachit Borphukan in one hand he is holding a sword and from the other hand he is giving a sign to move forward.

Honestly It's my first time hearing the name Lachit Borphukan. Before this book I knew nothing about him. Lachit Diwas is celebrated in Assam in his memory. Not much is known about Lachit from a historical fact point.
Coming to the book A hero is a character, a legend is a story. The plot is of 16th century, over 400 years ago, when Aurangzeb was leading Mughal Empire.
Lachit was the commander of Ahom army of Chakradhwaj Singha of Assam then. People remember him for his commendable job in Saraighat battle. I scrupulously enjoyed the standpoint of the author. This book puts Lachit's heroism in perspective. The author has done an excellent job with the narration. Also the book is very well researched and informative. If only history lessons were taught in school in this manner!
A must read book for history buffs!!
