The Poetry Book II

Rate this book
This introspective collection of poetry navigates themes of purpose, redemption, and the human condition. The poems delve into existential questions concerning life, while ultimately conveying messages of hope and resilience.

The first section, "Scribbles," offers brief yet profound reflections on being human, chasing dreams, and making the most of one's time on Earth. "Mad Man 2" dives deeper into the chaotic nature of life, utilizing vivid imagery and passionate self-expression. Finally, "MISC.," ties together the collection's overarching themes with emotional portraits of everyday people and moments.

While the poems confront pain, adversity, and disillusionment, rays of light consistently break through the clouds. The collection argues that creating meaning for oneself is the key to fulfillment, and that one must continue fighting through hardships in pursuit of truth and purpose. Readers are left with the feeling that they are not alone in their struggles.

Charles Maynard is one of the few authors mad enough to believe they can make a living writing poetry. His experience in writing spans over a decade—from producing coffee-fueled essays in college to enduring all-nighters in the name of AP English. His book about wishing for a dog was made into a play—a grade school feat that would impress even the harshest of critics. His pieces exude subtle humor, thoughtful insight, and sheer creative brilliance. Behind his vivid imagery and clever wordplay lies wisdom and wit that remind the reader: you are never alone.

This is the second book in this poetry series. I have read the third book of poetry already and loved it. I actually loved this book. It's the same outline as the second book. I loved the scribbles and the miscellaneous poems. Again I have to say that the Mad Man section of the book does not belong, it feels kind of disjointed. Maybe disjointed is the wrong word but I cannot think of another word. One thing I truly loved more were the itsy bitsy stories. The stories, I feel should not be part of the book. Again, it feels disjointed. I feel the book would b better if the book was just scribbles, another book for the miscellaneous, another book for the !as man and another book for the short stories. Overall, I loved the book.
