The Edge #2

The Edge of Serenity

Rate this book
Josslyn Davis isn’t your typical Southern belle. If you ever call her that, she’ll probably punch you in the throat. Dresses make her itch, and being polite hurts more than shoving a drill bit through her skull. She’s the redheaded wildfire that you don’t want to mess with.

She loves to be outside and work on her family’s bee farm, taking pride in doing things herself. But, over the last few months, she’s felt like the biggest failure of all time. After getting evicted, she had nowhere else to go except to move in with her brother’s two best friends. The only problem is she’s madly in love with the one sleeping on the other side of their adjoining bathroom. The one who doesn’t remember their drunken night together.

Mackay Graves has been cursed since he was a young boy, a family gift passed down from his father, the same man that made Mac do things no child should do. Always alone with his emotions, he grew up with the pain of being abused by his father. And now, his dad is trying to worm his way back into his life.

Apart from his father, his best friend’s little sister has moved into his house, the same woman he’s been secretly in love with. His solution is to ignore his emotions, brushing off his father and swallowing his feelings for Joss, not wanting to ruin the “family” he gained when moving to Oaks. But with her living in the room next door, his feelings have become unpredictable, wreaking havoc on his life.

Both dealing with unprecedented circumstances, Joss trying to bury her feelings for Mac and straighten out her life, and Mac ignoring the fact that his family dynamic is shifting, their lives start to spin out of control.

What will happen when life forces them to be alone together, confronting the feelings that are trapped inside? One day can’t change their destiny, or can it?

So much improvement since her debut novel!

There could be some more editing–I have a problem with sentences missing a subject–but the overall structure of the story makes sense and the characters are more or less consistent. And I love those characters.

Joss and Mac were already quite interesting in the first book, without any backstory; they became endearing with a past and a voice. Their past together was especially cute and it gave some base for their building relationship. There’s respect, friendship, attraction, and resentment–the recipe for a tumultuous love affair. They go through so many obstacles it’s a miracle they get their happy ending.

Don’t expect a fast romance full of heat. The story takes its time, because it isn’t solely about the main couple. I realized that this series is more a family–families? town?–saga. There are so many characters, each with their own story, and you get glimpses at them. Many scenes aren’t focused on Mac, Joss, and their romance but are here to depict the bounds between them and all the other characters, even those we don’t really see.

I didn’t completely buy the story of Mac’s father–how he acted with his son, what he did, and how he changed. It felt a bit too much. But it moved the plot so many times that I understand why it was like that. On the other hand, Joss’s past looked a bit shallow and her reaction to it over the top.

With a last sentence that felt like a punch in the guts, I can’t wait to come back to the beating hearts of Oaks.

Quickie

- Series: The edge #2 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #small town romance #new adult #friends to lovers #slight age gap #family saga
- Triggers: child abuse
- Main couple: Josslyn Davis & MacKay Graves
- Hotness: 3/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + the positive message about child abuse survivors
- – the sexy scenes were technical and rushed

A lot is going on in this story! Drama, heartache, happiness, love, and surprises! Josslyn and Mackay have quite the story, with plenty of chemistry. Just enough to keep me interested, I look forward to the next book.

Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review

Mac Daddy, though!!!!!

I have been waiting for this books since book 1 and hot damn did Kristin deliver.
I love this series so much! In my head it's modern day Friends sitcom in the south instead of the city.
But seriously! The friendship, the romance, the drama! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Joss has been in love with Mac for forever but she's his best friends little sister. He looks at her like just another one of the guys, right? Wrong. Ugh! Mac believes he's cursed. And his beautiful broken little heart is still harboring pain from an abusive childhood. He knows he could never have anything to offer anyone, least of all his sour path, Joss. She deserves so much more than he could ever give her. But gah they are exactly what the other needs. The infuriating yin to his yang!

Oh Lordt and then the ending!! So, ready for the next book and more from this group of friends.

This book will make you feel every emotional possible. And Kristin Turnage's writing is out of this world, her words will grip you on the very first page.

It takes a lot to get me to cry while reading a book, A LOT. But this book had tears streaming down my face. They were tears of sadness, grief, shock and happiness. Seriously, this book was outstanding and her writing only made it better.

Joss and Mac have been best friends for years, and both harbor secret crushes on each other. Joss has been in love with Mac for as long as she can remember and the same goes for Mac. They shared one night together that Mac does not remember, but Joss does. Joss comes to realize that she will always be the best friend's little sister and for the sake of her heart, she decides it time to move on. But of course once she moves on, that when Mac decides he can't stay away anymore even though he knows that he should.

Mac knows he does not deserve Joss. He comes from an unimaginable tragic past and is scared of himself and his temper. He will not do anything to hurt Joss, but he is worried about what might happened. He knows that Joss deserves more than him, so he stays away, even though it is slowly killing him. He rather have her as a friend then nothing at all. Mac is not the horrible man that he thinks he is, the fact that he is worried about how he will treat Joss, shows just how remarkable he really is. When his dad reappears in his life, Mac is loosing it like he never has before and only Joss can save him.

These two go through a lot in this book. It is not your typical romance of falling for each other, getting together, breaking up for a bit, then getting back together again. No, these two go through hell to be together. They both have a lot to go through within themselves before they can every be with each other. They both have to grow. But no matter what they love each other and will always be there for each other.

This story is one of those stories that will stay with you for a while. The more Mac reveals about his past makes me just want to hug him. (This book does discuss abuse.) And I love how Joss is always there for him. Even when she needs to make a fool of herself in order to make him feel better.

So happy these two got their happy ending! And I love her epilogues!! Love that they are 10+ years in the future, you can see them as a family now.

But the very last sentence of the book....no!! Heart of the floor.

This is the second book of The Edge Series. Can be read as a stand-alone, BUT I highly HIGHLY recommend reading book one The Edge of Happiness ( Cassie and Ryan’s story). All characters from book one come back and its useful to get a better concept overall. It picks up after Book one as well. Just a little FYI!

OKKK now to talk about TEOS, geeeshhhh talk about such a beautiful story. This story is about Mac and Joss. Both misunderstood, both broken in many ways. Joss is Mac’s best friends little sister. They practically grew up together so of course Joss had the biggest crush on Mac.

Mac never pursued her even though deep down inside he has always loved her. One, thats his best friends little sister and Two, he always thought he was not good enough. Joss, has insecurities. She doesn’t believe she is good enough and drinks her problems away, to forget.

This is a beautiful story of growth, love and acceptance. Joss and Mac learn to navigate through all the dark feelings to be able to accept the other.

Im also glad there was so much of the other characters in this book, especially Cassie and Ryan. Though Ryan still has me a tad bit salty from TEOH …. Im glad he accepts how much he royally fucked up and is loving Cassie the right way!

This book went beyond my wild expectations. Kristin Turnage does write the most beautiful stories full of emotion. She just has a special way with words. I loved Mac and Joss. That epilogue? ♥️😍♥️

The Edge of Serenity is one of those books that you feel you are a part of. For me, it was as if I was one of those people standing at the edge of the room, watching what was being played out around me. I wouldn't say that Mac and Josslyn's story is an easy simple read, but it is one that you won't want to miss. Their relationship is complex and is entwined strongly with their friends and Joss's parents. Mac is best friends with Joss's, brothers and her home was really his safe place as a child. Mac feels broken and angry inside and he feels he will never truly be whole, the one light in his life is his connection with Joss, one he doesn't want to mess up by adding in romantic feelings, even though his heart doesn't agree. Joss has always loved Mac but he only keeps her in the friends' zone.

Sorrow and heartache, some great funny moments and ultimately a great romance make's this a must-read book.

The Edge of Serenity is the second book in The Edge series and let me tell you, it was an amazing read! This time we’re dealing with Joss and Mac. Joss has been in love with Mac for many years now but fears that she’s not enough for him. Mac has some skeletons in his closet - one thing he didn’t tell anyone but Joss.
I loved the first book in the series, The Edge of Happiness, and I loved this one even more. Joss was a great and strong character, Mac has also been an amazing person and soulmate to Joss. There were moments I laughed, but there were also the ones where I cried so hard I couldn’t calm down. This is a must read this year, but I strongly recommend reading The Edge of Happiness first. Can’t wait for more! ❤️

Oh Kristin Turnage, you did it again. I am loving this series!

There was laughter, there were tears, and I fell even further for these characters. Joss and Mac pulled at my heartstrings. The things that Mac had to go through as a child, and how all of that impacted who he is today, just so good. Joss was a bit like looking in the mirror, and so that made me love her even more. I understood her as a character, and I just want to wrap that woman in a hug.

And yes, I stayed up way too late to finish the book, but I could not put it down. Also, my pillow was wet from the tears that flowed, but that's what happens when you don't have tissues on hand. Darn emotions.

A beautiful story of finding love, overcoming heartbreak and relearning what you believe to be right. With just enough drama and surprises to keep to hooked all the way through.

I did struggle with the writing style during the first half of the book. There were alot of characters and I couldn't quite work out how they all connected but perseverance is key, and I really enjoyed the second half.

I was beyond happy that the two main characters, Josslyn and Mackay, were able to get their HEA. Together they are stronger ❤

If you enjoy ~ small town, friend-to-lovers, best friends sister ~ books then this is for you!

Oh Kristin Turnage has me in my feelings again. 😭 These books are my favorite because each and every character is so relatable. The connection you make with these characters is something that I love so much about each and every one of her books. I absolutely loved Mac and his struggle but his JOURNEY. Mac and Josslyn's relationship and passion were great but the journey and growth Mac experienced within himself was amazing.

That cliffhanger at the end, I'm dying inside until book 3. Kristin Turnage I love you and all but kiss my tail in the most loving of ways because JACE. 😳

Ok, wow… just… wow! That was quite a freaking sob! This story… aaahh! So many emotions, so much heartache, brokenness and deep wounds but all healed up and redeemed for something bigger and stronger.

That’s what love does and it was all Joss and Mac! Their love story isn’t a fairytale at all, it’s a raw and real love journey towards healing and getting rid of the doubts and lies that your past made you believe. Mac was so imperfectly perfect, his pain and his doubts were real, I felt so hard for him. I wanted to hug him and tell him everything was going to be OK. Joss was such a badass, she was strong and also stubborn, but she loved with all her heart and her soul was always in the right place.

They went through so much together, learned from their mistakes and their wounds and came back stronger. I loved their banter and bickering, their care and protectiveness for one another and all the friendships and family bonds they had with the reat of the cast.

I cried hard with this one, tears of sadness and heartbreak and then tears of joy with this woulnderful ending. It was the perfect example of the saying that goes “hurt people, hurt people. But healed people, heal people”. Heartwarming and beautiful!

Picking up Jace’s story right away!

Josslyn and MacKay! After reading Ryan and Cassie's book, I was so looking forward seeing how their story unfolds. Josslyn has been in love with her brother's best friend MacKay forever. Keeping her feelings hidden as best as she can, but also hard since she is living in the same house as her lifelong crush. MacKay has alot of emotional baggage and while he feels all the things with Joss, she is also off limits.

An emotional story between these characters, fun, sweet cast of characters. Josslyn, a tough girl character who has a backbone and is sort of discovering herself. It was great spending time with Ryan and Cassie. Seeing how Joss' friendships slowly expand to new friendships. I can't wait to read the next story!

This Is the 2nd book in this great series and is Joss and Mac’s story. Joss has loved Mac. Her brothers’ best friend for years, while Mac believes he is cursed and broken from an abusive past, and when they end up are roommates, they are tested to the limits. The chemistry between these two is undeniable, and they have challenges to overcome along the way. This is a well written story which pulls at the heartstrings throughout, and is filled with emotions, healing, drama, suspense, humor, heartbreak, family, friendships, and love, which all leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend.
