I tend to get most romantically involved with Aries sun signs (or prominent Aries placements in a chart), so I read this to improve my experience with Aries suns or gain more understanding. It was basic as a guide, nothing groundbreaking that you couldn’t find on a Google search. Somewhat contradictory and repetitive.
As a reader and reviewer, I am not wild about seeing claims that a book is the “ultimate,” as no single book can be the “ultimate” on any subject. While this book is not the “ultimate,” it includes a lot of basic (and beyond basic), intriguing information about the astrological sign of Aries and the people born under it. The book starts with the most general information, including descriptions of its myths, constellation, and glyph. (By the way, graphics showing the shape of the constellation as well as the glyph would have been MUCH appreciated.) Then it gets down to what Aries means as a sun sign in the broadest sense, including strengths and weaknesses. It has an entire chapter of Aries celebrities, as diverse as Leonardo da Vinci, Lady Gaga, and Maya Angelou! These first chapters include some fascinating information on gemstones and other topics rarely seen in astrology books. It also has basic positive and negative traits in several sections.
It got more interesting as the chapters became more specific, including ones about Aries in love and relationships, Aries children, Aries at work and while socializing, and what they need to feel content. The relationship chapters (love, friendship, work) took up most of the book. As someone who was married to an Aries and has an Aries sister, I felt like the author was spot on in describing the Aries temperament in relationships. I like how she offers both the Aries person and those who know them advice for working (in the general sense) with this sun sign. Unlike some other books in the series, this book didn’t provide as many sign-by-sign comparisons and compatibility discussions for each area (e.g., work, friends, etc.) as the other books in the series. I wish the author had done so, as I find these mini discussions of inter-sign dynamics fascinating.
This is not a “sun signs for beginners” book, by the way. You might get a little lost if you don't already have a good grounding in astrology that’s at least a little beyond sun signs, as the author does discuss things like elements, cusps, houses, and other more intermediate-level astrological information. If you are an Aries who is interested in astrology, you might enjoy this deeper look into your sun sign. If you have many planets in your natal chart in Aries, you might appreciate this book, too, as it could give you greater insight into those aspects of your chart. Finally, if you have an Aries in your life, you might find this book gives you a little insight into what makes them tick.
I received a free copy of this book and later "bought" it for free, but that did not affect my review.
As a curious human, this book piqued my interest. Astrology/zodiac was also this month's book club theme, so I seized the day.
Pros: everyone loves to learn about themselves, so I did enjoy seeing what parts I already knew versus revelations I hadn't quite seen yet.
I also asked some close friends what their signs were and compared our relationship predictions in the book to reality...
Cons: the book really didn't do that great of a job, in my opinion, of describing me or those relationships. I'm not anywhere close to a cusp, nor are my friends, and the book felt very "this is the end all, be all of zodiacs" Arrogant, almost. It felt like it didn't leave a lot of room for "may be this or that way", as from what I've learned of astrology, much more than just a sun sign goes into a personality of individuals.
Conclusion: for a fun read, read this. It's definitely entertaining and on point. If you're looking for solid gold, don't invest here. Do a lot of outside research to find out more about yourself. I think astrology is legit to a degree, but there's so much more to the human experience than star alignment alone that goes into how a person thinks, feels, behaves, and so on.
