Deborah Rodriguez is a hairdresser, a motivational speaker, and the author of the bestselling memoir Kabul Beauty School.
She spent five years teaching at and later directing the Kabul Beauty School, the first modern beauty academy and training salon in Afghanistan. Rodriguez also owned the Oasis Salon and the Cabul Coffee House.
She currently lives in Mexico.

I am a holiday/airplanes "adult" book reader so was a bit reluctant to read a book set in Afghanistan and the horrific way women and girls are treated there. That being said, Deborah Rodriguez has a way of crafting interesting characters, adding light--and heart--that makes the reading enjoyable and left me feeling hopeful and perhaps a bit more informed. It does help that her stories are based in places she lived and worked.
