36 years after the 2020 plague, New America is on the brink of another Civil War. Only, this time it's a battle of the sexes, and mind-control is the weapon of choice.
An all-female society has many hidden secrets, including an exclusive, government-run island that brainwashes men from across the border, and then serves them up as fantasies to top-paying patrons.
Waverly Nelson, the young scientist controlling both sides of the border has been using her mind-control technology to exact revenge against the man who forced her to give up her baby eighteen years ago. Now, with her plan in place and her nemesis starting to fall, two unsuspecting teens decide to cross their respective borders and to finally meet in person. When they do, it starts a chain of events no one could have predicted and now no one can control.
Will Waverly choose blood over vengeance in the end, or will she unwittingly sacrifice her only child to start the war?
This fast-paced 3-Day epic satire reads like a thriller, and includes oddities on the cusp of reality today.
Contains adult situations and may not be appropriate for all readers.
This book is set in a dystopian future where the women have set up their own part of the country, with no need for men. Discontent is brewing on either side and things are never as simple as they seem. Two teens, one on each side of the border get caught up in the events in ways they could never have imagined...
Took me a minute to get into the swing of all the different points of view of this story but once I was, I was hooked. Great story and great execution
I’m not even sure where to begin? There was a plague that started things off (not much about it in the book). After that a great number of the women decided they could do without men (be and feel safe) and started their own (all female) society. The men have of course have their own (and women still live there, but don’t have anything to say). There’s politics, brainwashing/mind-control, revenge and a little hint of love. And once you get near the ending, you’re not sure how this is going to end & really really want to keep reading to find out! So yeah, I definitely enjoyed it. Do make sure to check for trigger warnings, before reading this book. There are women being assaulted. It doesn’t go into detail/specifics, but it might be enough.
Decades after the 2020 plague, America finds itself segregated, this time by gender. Its all-female society may seem perfect on paper, but Waverly Nelson knows first-hand that its secrets and lies can so quickly destroy lives. How far is Waverly willing to go for revenge?
The first thing that stuck out to me about this book was how unique the plot was! I absolutely loved the premise because it was definitely not like anything I had ever read before. The idea of an all-female society seems so intriguing when it's laid out so perfectly, but this book really makes you think about the morality of such a world and what lengths people in power will go to to keep their power.
I also really loved the way that this book deals with some heavier topics. It's definitely a book that will make you stop and think about various topics, and I really enjoyed the aspects of morality and humanity that came into play. It was easy to forget that what you were reading wasn't real because the whole thing was so immersive and really just draws you into the world and all of its issues.
At times, the book was a little confusing due to the frequent changes in the points of view. But overall, I greatly enjoyed reading it! Thank you Andrea for sending me a copy!
If you're looking for your next dystopian obsession, this is the book for you!
The characters were amazing. I was routing for Kat and Jordan. I hated to see what they had to go through. My heart hurt for them.
The storyline was incredible. This author has a real knack for capturing your attention and keep you turning pages to find out what would happen next. As I kept reading I hoped for a happy ending and well, you'll have to read it for yourself to find out. This was so well written and had a very strong plot with some pretty shocking parts that I didn't see coming until they happened. I highly recommend this read.
This book was deeply engaging—it keeps you invested and turning the pages. Some of it was a little 😬 for me personally, but that’s why I left the trigger warnings, so you’d know before you read. Honestly they’re not long scenes, but they’re present.
I got this book as a gift for myself for my birthday. I follow the author on TikTok and she was offering first edition copies with the original cover, signed, so I grabbed one.
Parts of it had me checking and rechecking “wait, when was this published again?” because some things she talks about in her book seem almost prophetic.
Generally in books, I figure out pretty quick the twist and then I spend the rest of the book further bolstering my guess until it’s revealed that I was right the whole time. This one, I honestly never knew what to expect and was surprised several times along the way.
The writing is good. The characters are interesting. The plot line is thrilling. It’s a lot of fun to read.
A woman's thirst for revenge. Two young telepathic lovers kept apart by politics and their families. Sexual assault and castration. Identity switching. Holograms and technology that can plant thoughts in people's heads. In Clark's fast-paced, smart dystopian science fiction novel, the United States is divided into three geographical regions (the matriarchal Lytoky, the patriarchal New Canaan, and the inclusive Gamma Group states) following a Ebola-type plague. Does any of that sound slightly familiar? Clark's foreword tells us that she wrote this book in 1997, "never knowing that an actual 2020 pandemic, a #MeToo movement, or an idea like fake news would become a reality." The book is full of sharp insights and page-turning plot twists. It immerses the reader in a dystopian reality that seems less far-fetched than it might have to Clark in 1997, while presenting a high-stakes thriller and relatable (and some despicable) characters that will electrify readers.
I really had no idea where this book was going. It started with a lot of cuz that I found hard to keep separated. But, as Ms. Clark carefully wrote her tale, the plot became clearer. There were three separate parts to what ones called New America. The East was governed and populated with women. Just to the West was New Canaan, which was populated mostly with males, and some females. And off to the very West was a group that called themselves The Rebellion. From here , I will leave to readers to follow the story. The main thing that I learned from this book is everyone can be corrupted, no matter their intent. I actually enjoyed this book very much. I read it for BookTok November India's author TBR. It was a pleasure and I hope to read her future works
This is a thought provoking science fiction novel written by a talented author!
I really enjoyed this book! The concept is completely original and very intriguing. The characters are extremely well-developed! I hated some, loved others, and even loathed a few. There were many themes, which made me reflect upon society and myself. The technology in the book was so good it was literally quite scary! The only thing I didn't like was the changing POV between so many characters. I understand why the author chose to show so many characters thoughts, but it was a little confusing. I think labeling the chapters by the character's name might help. Overall, I think this is a wonderful book with an important message. I will definitely recommend it!

I enjoyed this book. The concept is completely original and very intriguing. The characters are extremely well-developed—I loved some, hated some, and even loathed two of them! There were many important themes that led me to reflect upon society and myself. The technology was so good it was scary, actually terrifying! Growing m g up in am family with similar Christian mindset (not exactly but a lot of it very similar) it was an interesting read. Not only was it a battle of sexes it also included a very old way of Christian thinking. It took me a while to get into it but that's because I am not really a dystopian reader, but after a while omg this was a pretty good read, I enjoyed it.
The trigger made this a difficult read for me. I religiously stay away from books with SA in it. But I delved in and fought through my issues. The book is very dystopian. A child is given up for adoption and the birth mom watches her grow up as someone else's child. I don't want to give spoilers but if you like dark paranormal womens fiction this is by far the book for you.
I loved this book, as it has so many correlations in today's world, even though it is futuristic. The characters were realistic and relatable. I loved the plot and couldn't put it down after the first couple of chapters. It reiterated to me how important it is to be honest, and understanding, and how immensely powerful it is to be forgiving. In this journey of life, the only one you can (and should) control is yourself!
This book had me in a tailspin! I was completely caught up in the storyline midway through and by the time it started coming to an end I was completely invested! All the emotions you can think of and then some more were on full display during this reading. I’m still reeling from the outcome.
This book is definitely deferent the twist you don't see coming. Very well written. Great story. You could believe this could actually happen give it a read I was not disappointed
I read this story in three days and would've finished sooner had I not had a massive migraine! This felt realistic even though the story is set in the future... Not too far off from where we are headed if we don't change our ways! Well done, Andrea Clark!!!
Emotions, politics and egos are all part of this futuristic battle which leaves you wanting more!!!! Male dominance meets telepathic influence, hold on tight for this one!
I really enjoyed this book! It was filled with adventure! The plot had me hooked I couldn’t stop reading! And author if your reading this, hi it’s me bookish.mimi
Like any good sci-fi, this starts bang in the near future, but what a future it is. The links from today's headlines to the book's plot are clear and plausible. Ms. Clark even wove in a debilitating global plague, although this book was written years before our current pandemic. Give this book a long look!
Okay I am a rabid reader. So i do not take any of my reviews lightly but when I say I was blown away and amazed by this book, I ain't kidding. Andrea Clark maybe an indie author but all the big boys need to start paying attention to her. This book is a very complex story that doesn't feel like it's too complicated to keep track of what's Happening and feel like maybe it IS happening. There are aspects of gender relations, political things happening and maybe some just Shady underhandedness that you wouldn't expect. So a bit about what the story is: how far will you go to exact your revenge and are you sure of the goal that you've set? Waverly is a tech genius and in the current world that she lives in where people are already divided, it's not too hard to tweak it here and there and cause further division. is she the bad guy? Or is somebody else more to blame? Would a society run solely by women do better than Society ran by people who want to use the Bible as a weapon? Are your thoughts purely your own? Okay stop reading this review right now and go get this freaking book cuz you will not be sorry.
If you love a Dystopian a book this is the one!! There is so much going on from the start! Have you ever wondered what a women run society would be like…. I did and this is exactly how I would see it going!!! I definitely fell in love with Jordan and Kat! They were probably my favorite POVs. I did knock off a star simply because the amount of POVs was a bit overwhelming for me. I still loved this book!!!
Every part of this book kept me captivated. The future that Andrea Clark envisioned decades ago seems to be coming true - starting with the plague of 2020. It is really quite amazing how accurate her vision was. I was enthralled by the idea of a women-only section of the country which had initially seemed like a safe place but then it is realized the issues that come with gender segregation. Jordan and Kat’s story line was enjoyable and had me rooting for them.
