I admit that I had not realised that stories such as Forty Thieves and Aladdin came from the same root so this was enlightening. The stories themselves are told by a Sultana in an attempt to captivate her husband into an endless 'one more night of stories' as he has decided that he will only marry each woman for one day and then have her executed.

These stories are the basic version as this was a book but I picked up and read in a lunch-break but I am not sure who this version is actually aimed at. The basic English used would suggest primary school students but the subject matter often includes sex and/or death so it may not be suitable for every student of that age. That only really leaves ESL students.

I enjoyed it but parents may wish to view it before handing it over to an 8 year-old.

3. Sultan, Sheherezade, vizir, wife, clever, story, night

4.a)Then, I can never cut off your head. But I don't want to kill you. I love you , Sheherezade.

b)First, Sultan hates all women, so he was going to kill Sheherezade. But finally, He loves her. It's happy ending.

5. My favotite character is Sheherezade because she is clever. She also knows many kinds of story. Night after night, she tells them to Sultan. She always stops in an exciting place, so he wants to hear the end of story. Sultan was crazy because he tried to marry every day , and he tried to kill new wife every morning. It's scared.

I know this is just the retold version and not the original text of "One Thousand and One Nights", the stories in this little book are still quite good to make me read them from beginning to end. Some stories are sad, some are very funny, some are full of thrills and highlight the humans' intelligence. Really good to enjoy this book at the weekend.
