In his first published work for the public, former monk, Rajan Shankara, offers the reader a dynamic how-to for becoming a powerful adult. Everything Is Your Fault combines Rajan’s personal journey from drug-selling thug to Hindu Yogi with thought-provoking aphorisms and teachings that show the reader their own opportunity for spiritual growth. Having lived as a monk for 12 years, Rajan is now back in society as a world-yogi, teaching others how to control their mind, body, and emotions. Rajan is currently a meditation guide, award-winning writer, author of four books, self-development mentor, online coach, fitness and health expert, and business owner. Everything Is Your Fault is a powerful story of transformation and hope. When one of us transforms, we all do in our own way. Allow yourself to be transformed by Rajan Shankara.
Imagine a young man - at the crossroads of his young life - who decides to take a spiritual gap year at a monastery in the mountains of Kauai. Sound familiar?
Of course not! Rajan Shankara's decision may have been understandable in the turbulent 1960's, but in 2007 his choice seemed kind of extreme - until I read his story. As a retired teacher, I usually look for inspiration from my peers, but who expects to be profoundly moved by a former monk from the millennial generation?
Rajan's journey of self-discovery is a universal factor that is common to us all, because as we let go of our old pre-conceived ideas of Self and Ego, what remains is the realization that no one can "fix" us - that's our job!
Everything is Your Fault helps us to understand how to take personal responsibility for our own path (Leadership) through self-awareness and zero tolerance for bs. But clarity doesn’t mean anything without self-control - and that’s where meditation opens the door.
I loved his story so much that I bought two copies, because when you find something that is inspiring, you want to share it with someone else!
I have great admiration for anyone that chooses a less trodden path and forever changes the direction of their life choices. It's true what they say, never judge a book by its cover and this book, with its honesty, truths, knowledge and revealing insights will stay with me long after it has been read and reread.
I believe Raj has only just scraped the surface of his journey with his first published book and I look forward to future publications that may delve even deeper into an intriguing transformation and ongoing journey that we are all faced with within our lifetimes.
Thankyou for your inspiration and motivational teachings and for sharing your life story so openly...it touches the very heart of what it means to be human!
Best wishes and continued support on your journey.
I would describe this book as "Ego is the Enemy" with one main story to follow along. The writing and the aphorisms of this book are very straightforward and I would say that if you are interested in the concept of managing your ego or the idea of extreme ownership, this book is a great place to start. The aphorisms are simple and short enough to read one chapter a day and the story of Rajan is also great to read, as I really enjoyed the perspective of the monastery that I didn't know before.
I love how the script for ones live is flipped. I know I used to try to blame everything and anyone on my circumstance. What a game changer to own it all and have the possibilities to change things. I highly recommend
Hilarious book title and concisely true. Good stories. Light read. Ive been through my own Dark Night of the Soul and appreciate his explanation and understanding of it. Worth my time.
