We first met Buddy in 2006 when he was introduced to us in the book simply titled BUDDY THE BLUENOSE REINDEER.

This is the second of three Buddy books.

This dear little blue nosed deer unwittingly joins the journey to Boston with the Christmas Tree for Boston. Every December Nova Scotia gifts an evergreen tree to Boston in gratitude for that city coming to Halifax with immediate assistance after the 1917 Halifax Explosion. A wonderful introduction to this almost century old tradition.

A wonderful daily portion read-along for classrooms or the perfect family bedtime read for several nights in a row.

The language is sweet and simple and perfect for your December reader who might need a little reading practise.

A humorous children's story, featuring "Buddy the Bluenose Reindeer" (Rudolph's cousin) and the Boston Christmas Tree.

Historical context: In December 1917 two ships collided in Halifax Harbour and a munitions ship exploded; this was the biggest explosion until atomic bombs. The city was devastated, and help poured in, especially from Boston, which sent a train load of supplies — food, medicine, blankets.

Every year since then Nova Scotia has expressed its gratitude for this neighbourly attitude by sending a large evergreen to Boston to be the city's Christmas tree. Three cheers for friendly, helpful neighbours!!!

That is all backstory to this tale. In this children's story, Buddy helps find the perfect tree to make its journey to Boston.

This one was as pleasant as the last and even threw in a bit of a history lesson. It explained a little about the halifax explosion and the reason why the province of Nova Scotia sends a Christmas tree to Boston every year. Great kids book

A fun, uniquely Nova Scotian Christmas story.
Edited: We read this aloud for a second time during I Read Canadian Day: 2021.
