“You swing just as high for killing one as you do three.”

Called on to perform an autopsy for a murder case, Doctor Rebekah LaRoche and Just Jimmy find themselves as unlikely detectives in a town with too many secrets.

One of the bandits who held the old mission—and Rebekah—hostage is accused of murdering Ruby Palmer, a young woman who took some of those secrets with her in death. When Rebekah discovers the truth about Ruby’s death during the autopsy, she realizes her former captor is innocent. But when she tries to bring the evidence to light, she soon learns truth isn’t something this town welcomes.

There isn’t one straight shooter in the lot—the corrupt sheriff, judge, and leading townsmen are ready to lynch the bandit with barely a trial. The only man Rebekah can put any trust in is Deputy Thad Biggins. But what hidden agenda is driving him?

With the whole town against her, Rebekah finds herself facing an impossible choice: let a bandit guilty of many crimes hang for one he didn’t commit; or make one last stand for justice by robbing Ruby Palmer’s grave.

Grave Robbers by Sarah Sawyer is a historical western and the third book in the Doc Beck series. I recommend reading books one and two first for consistency of characters and linear plot progression.
Once more there is the delightful and loyal partnership of Doc Beck and Just Jimmy. The banter with the air of fun continues. “God seems to have me in places where I hear things I need to hear.” The pair have an unbreakable bond and look out for each other.
Doc Beck is determined to get to the truth, in contrast to others who sweep it under the carpet. She believes in justice for all, and for the murder not to be pinned on the wrong villain. She is courageous in her pursuit of the truth. Although I must admit I was surprised at the lengths to which she would go.
The town is ruled by very sexist males believing Doc Beck is good for doctoring but not for autopsies.
The inclusion of a show trail was reminiscent of Russia under Stalin.
Grave Robbers was another exciting offering from Sarah Sawyer with the ending perfectly poised for book four.
I received a free copy from the author. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

At the end of 'Mission Bandits' as Doc Beck and Jimmy prepared to board the train north to visit Dr McKinnon at his ranch, the Deputy Sheriff of the small town of Hagan to the south approaches them and convinces Doc Beck to come with him back to Hagan. The Deputy is certain that a miscarriage of justice can only be avoided if a qualified doctor reviews the case. One of the bandits she and Jimmy faced during their efforts to liberate the Mission in Zapata is being charged with the murder of a young girl, but the Deputy is not convinced he is actually the guilty party. Another well-written tale from Sara Elisabeth Sawyer that brings brings Doc Beck to have to decide whether she should be party to a plot to remove the murdered girl from her grave in the interest of justice. Which bandit is in the jail? Is he the guilty party? Can Doc Beck and Jimmy help the Deputy see that justice prevails? Your questions will be answered and I'm certain you will find this story to be satisfyingly drawn to its ultimate conclusion. I hope you enjoy 'Grave Robbers' as much as I did.

Doc Beck to the rescue again!
It’s another page turner! This time it’s Doctor Rebekah LaRoche’s medical skills and knowledge (aided by her trusty side-kick, Just Jimmy) that solve the mystery and prove who the real villain is. This was particularly fun for me since I have a medical background. In this episode, she is asked to provide evidence to support the conviction of the accused murderer, one of the villains from Book Two, Mission Bandits. However, Doc Beck will not be bullied into providing false evidence, not even for a man she knows is guilty of many other crimes. Once again, the ending is not exactly what one expects, and we’ll have to wait at least one more story before we learn about the mysteries in Doc Beck’s background.

Absolutely gripping continuation of this series.

The 3rd book continues this current series with all the intense action and drama and intriguing storyline as all of Miss Sawyer's books. Couldn't put it down, and now am looking forward to the next installment. As always, there is nothing that is offensive in the way of vulgar or inappropriate sexual content. The whole family can enjoy her novels. It's always refreshing that Miss Sarah works in her love of the Lord, but not in an overwhelming way.
Now, I'm waiting for the next one to come out!

More fantastic story-telling! Just what we’ve come to expect from Sarah Elisabeth Sawyer. And she never disappoints! Great story flow. Loved the colorful characters. And we learn a little more about what makes Doc Beck tick. She and Just Jimmy, plus new-found friend, Thad Baggins, take on the whole town with a half dozen villains to choose from. Plenty of twists and turns in this one. I particularly liked Sawyer’s well-crafted ending, leaving the reader hungry for more. Bottom line: a very entertaining read!

Once again Dr. Rebekah and Jimmy are invited into a situation that is more complex and awful than first thought. She is brought to town to perform an autopsy on a young woman believed to be of low morals by most of the townspeople. The jailed accused is the most violent bandit from Book 2. Several evil powerful men are the leaders of this town and try to keep the truth from coming out in the trial. Doc Beck stands up to them and presents the truth.
I love this brave lady doctor for her character of integrity, finding out and standing up for the truth, even when it puts her life in danger. Jimmy protects her at every turn.

Another AWESOME adventure!

This has got to be hard for Doc Beck. The man on trial is certainly a known killer, but did he kill the girl? Of course Doc Beck does what's right (that's what storybook heroes do.) The only local to ally with her is the deputy.

I like seeing Jimmy mature and grow into his moniker "Just Jimmy."

Sarah has done it again!! Doc Beck and Jimmy have stumbled into another mess but, once again, good prevails in the end! This book is an excellent example of the need for good people and God in a fallen world. And you’ll never guess who the grave robbers are😉I can’t wait for the next one in the series!
