If the World Is Yours is a charming tale awash in Banff history that takes you deep into the lives of the toffs and townsfolk who resided in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains when the Great War broke out.
Wonderful historical fiction! Enjoyed the characters and the local history woven into the story. Don't know how the author does it, but I could hear the characters accents in my mind as I was reading. Truly delightful! Makes you want to visit Banff, Canmore and the Rocky Mountains to explore the locations described in this book.
I much enjoyed this book. The characters, including historical individuals, were all believable; the story was captivating. I learned a lot about the local history, and some Scottish - 'wee dug' is now part of my vocabulary! Thanks to the author for this entertaining story.
I was gifted this book by my friend who lives in Calgary. As we had visited Banff Springs hotel some years ago she thought that I would enjoy this book. How right she was, I loved the story, such vivid description of life in that area many years ago. I loved the history, the characters and the way the author had obviously researched the time and storytelling. Highly recommended. Pauline Ferrie
Great description of places, people and culture of Banff and Canmore during WW1. A bit fast in some places, hard to read all the Scottish stuff in others (gave me a headache at one point) but all in all a great historic read.
This was a heartwarming story that showcases the Banff area while bringing some of Alberta's historical facts to light. The wide range of characters from maid to doctor, and terrier to hunter, are woven into a tale for a broad audience. It would be a great Christmas gift for any young adult and older, especially if they have ties to Banff and the rest of Alberta.
This book taps into Western Canadian History. With the sweetness of a little dog weaving us through the horrors of our painful past; we may not have known existed in our own back yard. The author has magically woven a novel that awakens our senses, from the delights of nature and love, to the hardships and destruction of war.
