There are millions of children in the United States suffering trauma and trying to navigate the chaos of life without anyone helping them along the way. They are alone, scared, and in desperate need of a positive relationship. They need someone like you to be a positive voice and helping hand in their lives, to guide them into the love of Christ. So what can we as Christ-followers do about it? Jesus cared the most for people—especially vulnerable people—and He calls us to do the same. Because relationships change lives, You Can Mentor will help you build positive, lasting, and life-changing relationships with the kids who need it the most. With stories of how his life was turned around by mentors, executive director of Forerunner Mentoring and podcast host, Zach Garza, shares practical tips for cultivating a Godly mentoring mindset, engaging and sustaining a healthy mentoring relationship, and the tools to overcome difficult mentoring obstacles. With memorable stories and his hard-earned insight, Zach equips you with a compassionate understanding of the difficult world these kids navigate every day and the tools to make a difference in their lives. You can mentor.

I was interested in reading this book because it was written by my 8th grade Health and Speech teacher, and I’ve watched from afar how impactful the organization he founded, Forerunner Mentoring, has been to the community. Anything and everything you need to know about mentoring is in this book. It’s not only a great guideline to mentoring/being mentored, but it’s also an enjoyable read. Such a good Christ centered resource.

Zach does an excellent job at highlighting every part of the Mentor’s experience, from the why to the what to the how, incorporating the gospel into every facet as well. This is a must read for anyone involved in a mentoring organization OR are considering mentoring a kid from a hard to reach area. Praise God for this book. Encouraging, informative, challenging, uplifting, honoring.
