"When people are dying, it's easier sometimes. You can be

all-powerful-even heroic. You don't have to think about how much courage it takes to dwell among the living, to fight for your own life. Lots of caregivers get addicted that way."

When a category five hurricane threatens a Galveston hospital, patients and nonessential personnel are required to evacuate.

Doctors Danica Diza and Shaka Sen, a chief family medicine resident and a surgical attending respectively, are tapped, along with a skeleton crew, to stay during the storm and care for remaining patients. Their facade of confidence is shattered, however, when the hospital's inhabitants are exposed to a weaponized strain of a virus with a forty percent death rate. Forced into quarantine, they must struggle to survive the ravages of the hurricane, a shortage of supplies, and the virus that threatens them all.

Written by physician and debut author Dimple Desai, this striking medical thriller provokes readers to consider the dangerous trends happening in our world today and the global changes needed to abate them.

A ‘disaster’ story, set in Galveston before, during and after a hurricane in a hospital with lots of vulnerable patients, where people start dying because of some unknown virus. In the hands of a lesser author this book could have been a disaster in itself. Dimple Patel Desai weaves everything, the hospital, the people, the weather, the virus ánd the politics deftly into a smooth flowing story. In fact, it’s almost a film script. Not very original, with two doctors falling madly in love while outside the storm is brewing, the arrival of several unwanted persons, the whole story behind the virus and not to forget the military people with a whole different agenda. But although it my not be the most original plot, it was a very nice read.
I would have given this book four stars instead of three if the author would have found a more balanced way to deal with the medical information. I have enough medical training and interest to be able to enjoy all information in Latin but of course without an explanation the book would be unreadable for all non-medical schooled readers. So, the author provides explanations and translations, which is good but sometimes a bit too much. It works for the more difficult concepts, i.e. explaining how a virus works, but it’s not necessary to use Latin for simple things as the fact that people with severe burns have difficulties to manage their body temperature.
I liked most of the characters and their actions, although I found the developing romance described in a way better suited for a soap than a disaster story. The end of the book was nice with an extra surprise.

Loved it. ✨📚

Firstly, what a lovely prologue. When I first read it I thought if prologue is so good how good is the book going to be!

When I began reading this book I asked myself what is a Lambda expression? I’d like to share this interesting piece of information with you all too. The term “Lambda” comes from mathematics, where it's called lambda calculus. In programming, a Lambda expression is just an anonymous function, i.e., a function with no name. In fact, some Lambda expressions don't even have a function body. This is the symbol of Lambda; Λ

I loved how Dimple attempts at describing her characters like; Danica in her dark blue scrubs, fixed her brunette hair into a high, messy ponytail, and took out some tinted lip balm from her back pocket, slapping it on at the last moment in order to look somewhat presentable. I like these little things that make it such a beautiful experience for readers like us. I could almost imagine her standing right in front of me!

It was so much worth reading, I’d like to recommend it to all my bookish folks. Get your hands on this book now!

The plot revolves around how a category five hurricane terrorizes a Galveston Hospital patients and everyone is required to evacuate the hospital as soon as possible.

But on an unfortunate event, Doctor Danica Diaz and Shaka Sen are trapped along with a skeleton crew to stay and care for the remaining patients during the storm.

Things weren't already worse when all the hospital inhabitants are exposed to a deadly weaponized strain of a virus with a 40% death rate. Now, forced into quarantine they'll have to struggle to survive the ravages of the hurricane, a shortage of supplies, and the virus that threatens them all.

Even though the writing is fictional the setup totally relates to the world we'd been facing since past 1.5yrs. It was an amazing combination of medical and thriller. Although I didn't liked the main characters very much but the plots and storyline compensated those flaws.

If you want want to get a quick pace thriller and have no problem with medical setups I'll recommend you to give this book a chance.

I actually felt a bit nervous when I requested this. I slept on it. I thought about it and I asked myself "do I want a book about a virus given the situation the world is in?" I couldn't stop thinking about this book. Curiosity got the better of me and I requested it.

Doctor Danica Diza, Shaka Sen and various medical staff are trying to relocate patients and treat others when there's a sudden hurricane warning. What will happen when the hurricane hits? Will they get out alive? I really liked these two characters. Danica is professional and I loved the mention of how she applied lipgloss to show she is image-conscious even during a long shift.

The hurricane is not the only problem. There's a virus too...

Brilliant novel and great attention to detail. Great visuals and the writing flows wonderfully well. I was hooked from the first page until the last. For me, a great novel is one that literally makes me go "wow." I did that and I held my breath in some parts wondering what was going to happen.

I flew through this and loved every page. The short chapters compliment the pace. The authenticity of the novel is helped a lot by the fact that the author, Dimple Patel, is a doctor. There's so much medical jargon but as I am curious and love to learn, I Googled this and learned so much.

I went through so many emotions while my Kindle app was reading this out to me. I was fighting tears with what some patients went through and genuinely concerned for people's lives. The medical scenes in ICU and other parts of the hospital were so richly created and I was reminded of ER, one of my favourite TV shows of all time. If you like any kind of weather-related book or movie you will love this.

A very current and riveting medical thriller.

Thanks to Dimple Patel-Desai and for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.

5 stars.

The Lambda Factor by Dimple Patel Desai Book Review: Book tour by @rubyisreading_ and @desaidetours I have strongly felt that this book is about a near catastrophic dystopia approaching where human souls are struck by two calamities one a hurricane and two a deadly virus. The book starts with a small scenario where a virus is shown to be spreading locally, soon to become a globalised phenomenon. The book says that the COVID virus already struck in the previous year and now another deadly virus of an African origin is about to let loss from a hospital to a world. With a quiet intimidating cover picture the author has marked that two people 's holding hands, one turning red and that means the contamination will spread with contact tracing and everything now depends on time. One of the most interesting factor of this work is that apart from being thrilling and spine chilling, this novel is about time, in it's longish approach this book has tried to show the desperation on the part of various medical and hospital staff to stop a bizarre accident, which happened already from a rapid spread. Dr. Wong got this idea when he starts to investigate the lab seeing Cory in an almost deadly state and Dr. Diaz and Dr. Shaka Sen will get involved as the plot has to progress. Dr. Diaz, a devoted medical professional along with Dr. Sen and a team of many other characters will change the route of the narrative as the work processeds almost bringing a strong hold and grip around our breathing hearts. As this book itself defines it, this book is about a cacophonous world where people are full of conundrums and convoluted thoughts where the humanity itself gets question, where we are reckless enough to downplay with the lives of lakhs of individuals. Maybe, nothing can remain good at our hands, we will indefinitely destruct and destroy everything whether it be nature or a pious professional. We blamed a community of individuals when they mishandled with the spread of a deadly virus but here the presence of that one character, Dr. Wong has been positive throughout. This is a book of our times, no doubt and all should read it, but be knowledgeable about medical terms.

The Lambda Factor by Dimple Desai is a heart-pounding medical thriller that will have you on edge. Mere hours before Hurricane Beatrix touches down in Galveston, Texas, patients of Galveston hospital are evacuated. Doctors Danica Diza and Shaka Sen stay behind to tend to the remaining patients. Unfortunately, a highly virulent and deadly hemorrhagic fever virus is loose, forcing many into quarantine. Will they be able to survive the hurricane, the deadly virus, and the shortage of supplies?

Author Dimple Desai has added a little bit of everything you want in a disaster story; high stakes, well-developed characters, and even a bit of romance. The author’s writing is both exciting and terrifying, just knowing that this can possibly happen in real life.

Dr. Desai uses her medical expertise to make the hospital setting feel realistic and describes things in a way that is understandable to a regular person. Likewise, the characters are believable and seem intelligent and down to earth. From the beginning, Shaka and Danica have flirtatious banter, making them a lovely pair, and I was secretly rooting for them to reveal their feelings to one another.

The stakes are high from the start of the story, making this book difficult to put down. The author flawlessly jumps between scenes from Galveston hospital with a countdown of when the hurricane is going to hit the Biocontainment lab where the Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever has been discovered. But even with these jumps I found it easy to follow many characters, and I always knew what was going on.

The fear that Dr. Wong feels when he realizes that there may be a deadly virus on the loose is where the tension really builds in the story. Because of the well developed scenes, easy to understand medical lingo, and interesting characters, I was fully immersed in the story and felt like I was in the hospital following the doctors.

The Lambda Factor is a terrifying and intense medical thriller novel. Readers will find it hard to put down as the action and suspense leads them through an alarming situation that, at times, is too close to reality for comfort.

Book - The Lambda Factor
Author - Dimple Patel Desai
.
The symbol of Lambda is “Λ”
It’s a very smartly written book, a book that creates chaos within the minded and to the core. The Lamba Factor also creates awareness for the changes that are taking place globally. Right here, right now is where we draw the line. The world is waking up. And change is coming whether you like it or not
.
A category five hurricane terrorises a hospital following that, everybody needs to be evacuated for their own safety. A Category five hurricane: Is a hurricane with winds greater than 155 mph. Storm surge generally greater than 18 ft above normal. Complete roof failure on many residences and industrial buildings.
.
There were soothing moments too in the book just like when Danica left the room, the scent of vanilla and lavender still lingered in the air.
Imagination and creativity of this book is beautiful. Because there are no rules to play by when we’re imagining.
.
Did you know?
In options trading, lambda is the Greek letter assigned to a variable that tells the ratio of how much leverage an option is providing as the price of that option changes. This measure is also referred to as the leverage factor, or in some countries, effective gearing.
.
The book was worth all the chaos. This book is highly recommended to everyone.

🔮The story flashes light on the incidence of Galveston Hospital which is badly hit by a category five hurricane. As the situation worsens, most of the people were evacuated from the hospital. But unfortunately some patients along with some doctors were left behind in the hospital.

The situation was already very muddled up and additionally they were all exposed to a weaponised strain of a deadly virus, with a pretty high death rate.

Now due to high severity of the situation, they had to get quarantine and have to struggle with the bare minimum supplies and food.

🕯️The whole story revolves around the medicine background nicely weaved into a thriller plot.

The plot seems to be highly relatable with our present scenario. The writing style of the author is excellent. The scenic portrayal of the situations feels so unique but real.

The author has beautifully illustrated the cover with a lambda expression. I like how the cover looks equally presentable and complementing the plot nicely.

👩🏻‍⚕️Being from medicine background, I throughly enjoyed the book .

🎀Rating - 5/5 ⭐

🪄I would recommend you this book if you want to pick something in fast pace thriller genre.

The Lambda Factor is a medical thriller and romance novel keeping up with the current trend of a deadly virus, skilled committed and struggling medical professionals, and a budding romance all while tackling a category five hurricane.

Danica is heroically working hard to save her patients' life while her own is a terrible mess.
"Why did I do that? Why do I self-sabotage my own life and my happiness? What am I scared of?"
These seemingly simple questions haranguing Danica are actually a manifestation of our worst enemies today, which beleive it or not are, 'we ourselves.'

But Shaka, an incredibly talented surgeon, isn't deterred by Danica's harsh treatment, he instead see's right through her and calls her out on her hypocrisy, that she's afraid to feel anything for anybody so she builds walls to shut them out.

Will Danica have the courage to let her guard down and open her heart while dealing with the stress of diminishing supplies, amidst dying people from a disease they know almost nothing about, being short staffed and overworked, and trying hard to evacuate the ill patients?

"There are some moments in life when time itself seems to
split in two, forever dividing the memory into “before”
and “after.” (Quoted from the text). The profoundness of these lines is something to ponder upon.

The story is a new subject for me and medicine is not my cup of coffee. But the way the author took the story was amazing and intersting as well. There was a lot to feed my brain in vocabulary related to medicine. The story is more of realism. There is a scene where Billy and Shaka injects vaccine for the patients without a proper order where Dr.Danica stands still to hear it. What happens next is a way thrilling to hear isn't it? Romantic scenes adds a lot of essence in entertaining. There are almost fifty six chapters and it takes a lot of patience to complete it. The story was a perfect blend of medicine and science. The descriptions were almost like watching a movie. Will Galveston University Hospital recovers from the deadly virus? To know the end give a read to this life threatening story.

The plot is around hospital environment. The five hurricane hits Galveston hospital. The situation was very worst, the hurricane was very wild and most of people were evacuated from that area. Few patients and doctor Dandica diza and Shaka Sen were left in the hospital. The situation was very severe, virus was very deadly and it lead to scarcity of basic needs.

This is very gripping read from the beginning. I felt that the style of the plot is different because a thriller genre based on hospital. This plot is somewhat relatable because during lockdown we all faced that toughest situation.

The writing style was excellent. Author has proceeded the plot very well. It's beautiful blend of emotions. The story was in good phase. I felt completely engaged while reading, it's quite a long read but was a great entertainer. I recommend this book to people who are interested in a medical thriller.

The Lambda Factor
by Dimple Patel Desai

This was a good book and well researched, I liked it a lot. The overall experience is a great way to convey not only the value of the book but also what experience one can expect when reading it.
It is well written, sexy, and exciting in both medicine and science. This gives you the terminology you need to understand what is happening without messing it up.
However, when the residents of the hospital were attacked, its sturdy facade collapsed.
With excellent writing ability, the author brings a simple story to life.
The language is lucid, and therefore the dialogues and the words used are thus attractive and tempting to read. The writing is that the important and purpose of this book
I am really thankful to the author for providing me with such a beautiful book.

The art of decent storytelling is cohesive, attempted by a few and excelled by a handful. This book of art is a thriller but with great engaging expressions. The protagonists go through crazy tit-bit of adventures which could definitely result in goosebumps all over!

Writing style of the author is exemplary and has mysterious overtones, which creates more depth when one is able to delve into the core.
Vulnerability is as equally involved as characters during the whole essence of the plot. The book not only is a decent thriller rather it has a deeper meaning ingrained in it.

One would be able to comprehend the crux of the plot when one reads the book with an open mind. Twists and turns throughout the story pamper reader with thoughts of the immediate future of what is going to happen next.

This book is a mix of suspense, medical and romance genre. The story is set in Galveston Hospital which is suffering from an environmental catastrophe and a deadly virus. This book is just the real-life depiction of how humanity has failed many times, especially when we needed to support each other and be there for people at difficult times. The message that the author tries to convey to the readers through the story has been well executed. The title of the book kindled my curiosity which made me pick this book for a read, and I'm glad that I did. The author has wisely written this book in a suspenseful manner infused with medicine, creating an unputdownable book. The construction of characters, dialogue, plot, and narration, everything bound so well and made it a perfect read. The narration was kept simple and the characters were varied and fleshed out.

This is a dystopian novel where there is some natural disaster and spreading of this which is causing heavy damage to people and the surrounding. The story is weaved in a nice way. The writing so good and lucid that makes the reader engaged with the story. There is some romance too which acts as a balm when there are a lot of things going around. There are a lot of heartbreaking painful moments in the story.

This is a thriller genre and I recommend it to all of you as the author's style of writing was so good and captivating, the characters are narrated so well.

There is a lot of suspense waiting for you. I don't want to give any spoilers. I really thought of the current scenario we are facing. In many states, there are monsoon floods caused by cyclones and on another side, COVID is mutating and oxygen demand, vaccine demand.

Humanity is one thing which is getting lost in current situation. This could be the best book to make people realise what they're missing and how one should hold to each other at difficult times.
Here's the story of Galveston Hospital where there's lot of chaos because they have been hit by different disaster first the deadly virus and second is the hurricane.
The character of Doctors Danica Diza and Shaka Sen is well described as they were at the times of crisis in the hospital. It would be interesting to see how humanity basis has been explained through this story.
Overall I liked the book and the language used is lucid and easily understandable. The narration and writing style is quite good and the Cover page is quite appropriate to the title with lambda sign.

3.5 rounding down.

Contagion books are becoming more and more popular (most likely due to COVID) and it's hard to stand out. Enter The Lambda Factor. When a nasty contagion breaks out due to a mishap with a weaponized strain on a small island during a category 5 hurricane, the government decides the island is pretty much on their own in hopes of preventing further spread.

This was a pretty easy and fast paced read, but I definitely found some bits eye roll worthy and just soooooooo convenient. It definitely stands out from the crowd though.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fantastic storyline where the story is created in the clutches of an hurricane and a deadly virus. Hospital staff and patients are stuck between them like front is gun and back is knife. How they handle is super thrilling and engrossing to read. This book represents the world's present scenario. We are far developed in technology but we are far backwards in medicine and we sometimes don't know to handle the natural disaster. The suspense is high level in this book. The narration is superb. Language is simple and lucid. Gripping book. I would suggest this book to every reader.
