I discovered Liz Shoaf a year or so ago and immediately liked her books. I have since read them all, and when I saw she had an upcoming novel, I ordered it right away. This one takes place on a Texas ranch and features a rancher who is one of a set of Dolan brothers. I sincerely hope each brother gets a book. There is danger aplenty from the get go and the action rarely lets up for more than a few hours. Shoaf adds some wit in this one and it was a wonderful addition. I loved every minute.

Squealling overdose of cover cuteness alert! And Barnie, the big lug, is pawsitively the kind of canine heroes are made of. :-) His human backup isn't half bad either. And there's romance in store for both of them if they all survive.

The nail-biting opening scene sets the pace for this page-turning suspense. Relentless bad guys (and I do mean relentless!) wreck no end of havoc for Liv and Mac.

They used to be neighbours until she moved away for college and became a city girl through and through. Mac has a bad history with city girls so he's not about to get ensnared by another one. Ha! So we have chaotic romance paired with chaotic suspense which makes for some heart palpitating scenes that may require the need for supplemental oxygen. And when you're not gasping for air you'll likely be doubled over with laughter.

Oh, and did I mention Mac has brothers? Just saying'...

3.5 stars, rounded up for the dogs in the story!

I really liked the MCs, but found the second half stretching my credibility a little too far with the ubiquity of the bad guys and how the good guys chose to handle it. Overall, a really fun little thriller with two engaging characters and a handful of well-developed secondary characters who I’d like to hear more from.

Excellent read. I really enjoyed this one with all the action surrounding the goons after Olivia. There were couple fun surprises at the end that I loved as well. I really liked the character of Spider and I would love to see him get his own story.

Being a writer myself, I hate to give any author a bad review. But in this case, I'm going to. I knew that it was a romance novel and I generally don't read those, but the plot looked interesting. One character is a lawyer and the other a former Blue Angels (Navy) pilot. Being a veteran I look at the little details. In one part she (the author) writes " and he had flown the best planes the Blue Angels have to offer". Well, one, the Blue Angels are a part of the U.S. Navy and would have been more accurate in writing " the best the Navy..." It also comes across as if pilots have a choice in what jets they fly. They don't.

She also has a character that's an active duty Navy SEAL. And she writes "the family wasn't happy with his current career with the SEAL's". And "they knew that some of what he did was classified". Current Career? you're a SEAL, Green Barret, Ranger, Force Recon, etc. Not a "Current career". And All of what the special ops do are classified. She also uses the term "mustered out". Those of us that served with the Navy or Marine Corps say Discharged, not mustered out. That's something the Army uses.

Lastly, like I said, I knew this was a romance story, but the whole lovey-dovey thing is So over done it's nauseating. Almost every encounter between the two main characters' is "his beautiful eyes, his rugged hands, her beautiful lips", her heart melted", etc. And the whole "we can't be together" thing got old really quick.

Unfortunately, this book will be going into my To Be Donated pile.

Great story by a new-to-me author I will be reading more from!

Mac is happy to take a job from the FBI investigating Liv who is sister to one of his next-door neighbors. To his surprise, he comes upon 2 men trying to stuff a woman into a car on his way to the neighbor's house. That turns out to be Liv, but is she innocent or guilty? I really loved this story. It was action packed and had a bunch of laughs too.

The pace is breakneck and the tone uncertain yet hopeful with a character and action oriented storyline that has some kissing but no steam. The characters are vibrant and endearing, especially the dogs and secondary characters. I am hoping to see all of Mac's brothers find love too! The Christian values are woven into the story gently. There is not a lot of discussion, but they pray and talk about it some.

Fun, danger, Enrique, all chase these delightful characters.

The rowdy Dolan cowboy Mac realized that the woman being abducted was his former neighbor Liv Calloway so he interfered. That started the whole save Liv thing and he couldn’t tell her that he was contracted by the FBI to find her and what she was up to. She had been in the city long enough that her country origins were trying to hide. But he found she was still country enough to try and protect everybody and their dogs. They are both more than meets the eyes and it takes a lot of happening to straiten it out.

Texas Ranch vs New York City

Although there were times this story didn't quite track, it was filled with such intensity, I couldn't put it down! There were so many twists and turns, it kept me glued to it. I loved the dogs and the contrasts between the Ranch life and the city life. I had no idea how Cal was going to fit in but loved what the author did with this character. Thank you!

If you are a dog lover then you will enjoy this charming story. Who doesn't love good looking rugged cowboys growing up to be 5 very diverse men with strong family values and ties. Let's not forget a heroine that is smart and strong and not afraid to show her spirit and value as a woman. I would like to see more of the Dolan men and perhaps even some of the other characters like Cal, Spider and Babette. Liz are you up to the task?

This book is full of action and adrenaline from beginning to end! Liv Calloway overhears a conversation that puts her life in danger. She runs for home, but the goons are waiting for her! Max Dolan happens upon the scene and rescues his childhood neighbor. Mac has some secrets of his own, and he doesn’t know whether Liv is innocent or not.

4.5 stars. This author isn’t one I was familiar with and I love her writing style. However, the situations and the way the characters handled the dangerous situations was completely ridiculous and harebrained. Great writing style but the plot was completely outlandish. I read this as part of a set.

I really enjoy Liz Shoaf's series. There is made up of intrigue, romance and suspense. The family aspects along with a love story make reading fun. The christian mix adds a nice touch. I am excited to read the next story.

interesting

As interesting as Tempe’s story! Both Mac and Liv have secrets which they keep from each other. Which didn’t help their case. Luckily the big guns came calling at the right time.

Tall Texans, men with guns, men in suits. And a little romance thrown in. This lady is an excellent author. Add some dogs, and you have all you need to keep you reading.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Texas Ranch Refuge. This is a great read! It's well-written, action-packed, and full of suspense. I really enjoy Liz's books and I know you will too.

Attorney Liv Calloway is working late when she overhears her boss talking to one of the thugs he keeps around. He is talking about the murder of the witness of the case she is working on. She hides as the men shut off the lights and leave. She would head home to Texas and call the police from there. One of the thugs is waiting for her. She tells him she'd be glad to talk to her boss, she just needs to brush her hair. She sprays him with hair spray and hits him in the eyes. She escapes and heads to Texas but is followed and attacked again. A cowboy comes to her rescue. Her one-time neighbor.

Ex-military Mac Dolan has been asked by the FBI to check out a little problem that has to do with his neighbor's sister. She has allegedly hired a hitman to take out a witness on a case she is working on. He is going to the Calloway ranch when his dog goes crazy. Two large men are trying to stuff a small petite woman into the back seat of a car. He rescues her and she asks to stay with him.

A complicated journey with killers searching for her, a man who doesn't trust her, and a boss setting her up to take the fall. God has a plan for these two, a plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too; a good plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him turn your life around.
