Rate this book
David Castillo was broken during a clandestine mission. A powerful AI chipset was inserted into his skull in preparation for the covert operation. A second implant, powered by a generator attached to his heart, was embedded in his chest. The devices were intended to monitor him every step of his journey. His was supposed to be a courier traversing rugged terrain. But no one informed him the assignment was planned to fail. Captured and tortured by his enemies, his broken body eventually returns to the very organization that had betrayed him. While in a coma, a voice echoes out of the depths of the smothering blackness that envelopes him. A conversation with the unknown presence leads him to fear he is suffering auditory hallucinations. Upon returning to full awareness, he is shocked to discover he is held prisoner in a secret facility. He is caught between two powerful adversaries. Karl Jantzen, Director of Middle East Operations, wants two things from him. One of them is his life. Doctor Gerald Frankel firmly believes Artificial Intelligence can become sentient. He claims him for his AI-human interface study. Neither man is willing to grant David his freedom. David fears that his life or sanity will be forfeit unless he finds a means to escape. He rejects Dr. Frankel's contention that his body is hosting a new sentient lifeform. But he'll willingly embrace the concept if the voice in his head helps him escape!
