Forced to marry Brand Ericson, a knight of the defected Anglo-Saxon armies, Marisa de Brionne, the spoiled and beautiful daughter of a Norman nobleman, becomes irresistibly drawn to the stranger who is her husband
The story is set just after William the Conqueror conquerred England in 1066. Marisa is the headstrong daughter of a Norman duke who is forced to marry the Anglo-Saxon lord (thane) Brand. She -off course- does not want to marry him, he is the defeated enemy. He does not want to marry her, he still feels responsible for his late wife's death. But he wants to keep his lands because of his heir, his son Griffith. Of course there are villains of various sorts. They learn to love each other, but do not dare to say/admit it. They will have to overcome all of this to have their HEA.
The story is well described, the surroundings really come to life. Historically reasonably accurate. A nice read!
