This book saved the series. The pastor was an irritant in most of the earlier stories. His arrogance and hard headedness, to me, interfered with being the religious leader of the community. For an individual to decide that they have the right to force widows to marry regardless of their stage in the grieving process was barbaric. As with the widow running the post office, he threatened to contact the railroad and eliminate her source of income! Yup, he had a big dose of karma due. The reappearance of Fancy saved his soul, his faith and his position in the town. He had to totally re-establish his relationship with God and made peace with his past. It was impressive that he went to the widows and apologized for his behavior and arrogance, that was noteworthy.
I’ve read several books in this Blizzard Brides collection and in each one I was appalled with the reverend. He was self-righteous, pompous and generally not a likable man. He forced women to marry when their husbands all perished while hunting in a terrible blizzard. He said they’d have to leave town unless they remarried to men for whom the town advertised.
Each time he reminded them he was available I cringed, thankful no one ever took him as a husband.
However, this book changed everything. A young woman from his past turned up in town remaking his life. It was good to see him being taken down a few notches, and the truth of his background revealed.
Beautifully written story of "pay packs" for Pastor Barnaby Collins...
Absolutely loved the way the Lord and Fancy humble the arrogant, self righteous preacher who has practically forced the women of Last Chance to remarry against their will, to keep them and others from sin. Francesca "Fancy" Yates is the only one who sees the real Barnaby locked behind his cold exterior of indifference. She knew him when he was a young man with a pure heart for God and she also knows the secrets he keeps from his flock. This wonderful finale of the Blizzard Brides will make you laugh and like me, even shed a few tears. Thank you to author Christine Sterling for putting a great finish on a truly wonderful series. I am also thrilled to learn that the story will continue with The Last Chance Brides which takes place 15+ years later when drought hits Last Chance and once again the town needs marraigable men! Will Pastor Collins be the one to bring the next generation of couples together, or will he wipe his hands of it and leave it to Mrs. Collins this time? Guess we will have to wait and see!
Barnaby Collins finally gets his come-upance when he meets Fancy again. We have all been looking forward to this but I was shocked when I actually felt sorry for him! Christine Sterling shows us all the reasons for Pastor Collins snooty and holier than thou attitudes in a very sweet and loving reunion with his Fancy. What a surprise! You will love how Barnaby comes to the realization of his actions toward all of the widows and the reasons for his demanding ways. Fancy brings out the real Barnaby and brings a beautiful love story to end a wonderful series. Wish it could continue but all good things must come to an end!
Francine Yates had no idea why God brought her to Last Chance. That is until she discovered Barnaby Collins. The man she once loved was somewhere under that pompous facade and she knew with great certainty that God had called her to bring Barnaby back to the path God had for him. This book is spiritual, emotional and romantic in uncommon ways. The uniqueness of this story is part of its great charm. Whether you have read the previous 31 books in the series or this is the first you’ve heard of Blizzard Brides, you will love this story.
This is a delightful book about two people that really need the Lord to help them out. Fancy feels like she has been sent to wake up Barnaby and help him "find" the Lord, even though he is a preacher. I loved how the author got me all involved in the lives of the two. I felt like I was right there. This is a great book and I highly recommend it. I did receive an advance copy, but this review is my own opinion.
This was a perfect ending for one of the best series I've ever read. This book made me laugh and made me cry. You finally get to learn Pastor Collins story in this book. This was a well written book, that kept me reading until the end. I couldn't put it down. It had quite a few surprises, that I definitely wasn't expecting. Christine Sterling did an excellent job with this last story in the series. I hated to see it end.
This has been an enjoyable historical fiction series to follow. Rev. Barnaby Collins has been very outspoken about the widows finding new spouses in Last Chance, but now he seems to be in a similar position as some of them. Not to mention that he has had a secret the entire time he has been in Last Chance. How will the widows of Last Chance react to the Reverend’s situation? I recommend you read the book to find out.
Barnaby, has been the ruling Pastor and although well meaning a thorn in his congregations side. His must remarry attitude after the blizzard, has taken us on many journeys and lives being changed. When he finds a former love, he finds himself in several attitude changes. Can he hide his past? An excellent ending and one which shows his errors and true feelings.
Fancy is an extremely satisfying novel in which many have waited for Barnaby to get his comeuppance, but the fully executing plot twist brings readers to their proverbial knees. Fancy holds the key to the dissatisfaction in the reverend's life. This secret is gasp worthy and pulls at ones heartstrings. Fancy and Barnaby are perfect opposites.
As I read through the series, knowing the last book would be about the bossy preacher who had not exactly been beloved by the people of his town, I wondered how he could possibly be redeemed. But this story did that and is a very surprising final story and a happy ending for the series.
Wow! Did this story of the Preacher turn out to be a very surprising and humbling. The storyline is so well played out. Didn’t see this ending coming, but I so enjoyed reading about Fancy and Preacher Collins. Fascinating!! Stayed up late to finish reading this story. Wonderful written.
This was a great way to end the series. Barnaby has actually been one of my favorite characters since the beginning, though I know we weren’t supposed to feel that way. It annoyed me how most of the widows acted but this story tied up the loose ends wonderfully and set up the next series extremely well.
I think this should have been titled ' A bride for Rev Barnaby ', the man who decided that all the blizzard widows should get married as soon as possible. I laughed through the first chapter, was engrossed with the rest of the story and really enjoyed the reminder that we need a living relationship not a formal relationship with God.
I have been waiting impatiently for this book. I could never have imagined this scenario and I LOVE it. I love Fancy. She is one of a kind. Thank you, Christine Sterling, for bring us Pastor Barnaby Collins’ story. It makes it worth the wait.
Barnaby Collins was instrumental in so many of the matches through this series; it was the perfect denouement to focus on his back story and provide readers with an explanation for his actions. I loved it!
Such a wonderful way to end this series!!! I loved that Pastor Collins finally met his match. This story was perfect! I laughed, I cried, and at times held my breath awaiting what came next... I will miss this town and these people...
What a beautifully written story! Fancy and Barnaby's story was full of emotions and will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. This book was a wonderful ending to a great series! I loved it!
Poignant story of Barnaby the preacher and Fancy who he has known for years. Will these two be able to reconcile their relationship and lead a life together.
This was a real page turner. There were some twists and turns that I didn't see coming! I loved this final story of the series. I'm still blown over by the way it all worked out!
Pastor Collins has had a secret for 19 years. When he accidentally stumbles upon Fancy's cabin, his Faith is tested. Very good story with some unexpected twists and turns. I enjoyed reading this story and learning about Pastor Collins and Fancy's past history.
Fancy and Barnaby's story is the perfect ending to this series yet it hints at new beginnings, also! Another drought in Last Chance calls for drastic action to save the town!
I won't spoil this book in any way except to say it was amazing! The story, the characters and the writing! All true Christine Sterling style. It will take your breath away!
A secret that causes grief and the way it is discovered brings peace and harmony to the whole town. Letting hearts desires find their way and turning lonesome into family.
