Two wonderful short stories in one book. Sanctuary Cove, #1 Rochelle Alers has a firm grasp of the islands of South Carolina and the culture of the original families that settled the area. Sanctuary Cove is the new home to Deborah and her children with the death of her husband. She opens a bookstore and and lives in her Grandmother's ancestral home. True love does not run smoothly in small towns and she and Dr. Asa Monroe must unravel an old secret. Book 2, Angel Landing. Set nearby, Kara inherits and large estate and decides to shake up her life and move from the big city to small town South Carolina. Local residents are angry that she inherited and do their best to run her out of town. The local sheriff keeps watch and romance develops. Both are good reads and have amazing characters. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Y’all, let me just preface this by saying, I never not finish a book. I have read some terrible and super cheesy romance books before and have pushed through to read them. But let me tell you, I tried to finish this book and I could just not. I was ready for the cutest and cozy type of small town romance, but this just was not the vibe. I didn’t even read the second story because I couldn’t finish the first one. Something about the main character’s persona just didn’t sit right with me. I also had a hard time with the whole back story of the romance story as the main character’s husband only passed away a few weeks ago and she was already moving onto Asa. The romantic scenes felt like they progressed so quickly toward the end of the story. I know this all sounds so harsh, and maybe my expectations were too high, but this just was not the book for me. Very disappointed.

Take a trip to islands off the coast of South Carolina. Two stories in one book means double the pleasure. Two women, seeking life changes, arrive and find more change than they bargained. I loved the ending of each, but most of all the setting. The cadence of a slower pace of life and strong community is always an appealing read. Thanks to Grand Central Publishing for the early copy.

Seems to capture the small community island vibe, but having a mother of two teenagers fall for a guy just weeks after unexpectedly losing her husband just doesn’t ring true at all.
