Not again... Ryle Sadler stared down at the financial statement lying on his desk. His investment firm had just sent him another record of overwhelming success. Time to sell his share in this stock. Ryle came from the poor side of the tracks, but that had no bearing on his success in life—which he keeps hidden from everyone, especially those in Appleton. But when he buys the local, rundown bed and breakfast, mysterious revelations from beneath the site are suddenly threatening to ruin his good standing with the citizens. Then along comes Jazzi Sanderson. Jazzi has a reputation of being wild, but Ryle sees more than is on the top layer of this woman. Beneath that tough, wild streak lurks a woman who wants to be loved by the right person, a woman who is tender-hearted and who is just finding out that God is real. Are Ryle and Jazzi’s worlds too far apart or can their differences help them solve the mystery that lies beneath Ryle's bed and breakfast? Will the evil person behind it all be able to silence them, or can Ryle's golden touch prevail in this endeavor too?
Nestled in a quaint little town called Appleton is where out story takes us. I loved reading about the B&B that Ryle was renovating. He has been successful in his business adventures, so he was sure this would be a good investment. Ryle is a good hearted person who likes to give people second chances. As he progresses in his venture strange things start to happen around the B&B. Someone doesn’t want him to open the new place and their tactics become dangerous.
Jazzi was my favorite character because she seemed like a lost soul who desperately wanted someone to give her a chance. There are glimpses of her past that she tries to forget but it looks like someone is out to get her. She is so excited when Ryle hires her as his manager. You can feel her excitement as she starts a new life and begins to trust Ryle. I couldn’t wait to see where the author took their relationship.
The mystery in the book is really two fold. There are the men who are after Jazzi and a mysterious discovery on the land where the B & B is. The author does a great job of leaving little crumbs for readers to follow as threats are made, strange noises are heard at the B&B and unfamiliar people start showing up. Ryle is determined to keep Jazzi safe but it could cost him his life if he doesn’t follow the demands that are given to him.
There are tense moments throughout the story that had me reading as fast as I could. The author surprised me a few times as the twists caught me off guard. With information about the B&B from years ago, I was fascinated by the unexpected discovery that will affect many lives. I have enjoyed my time in Appleton and hope the author will return to the town to update us on the people we have come to care about.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Carole Brown gave me an interesting mystery to solve. She left just enough threads behind to draw me toward the next story in the An Appleton WV Romantic Mystery series. The romance element is very chaise and Ryle and Jazzi both have secrets that tie into the mystery surrounding the bed and breast they have rehabbed and are about to open. This is book 5 in the series and I haven't read the other four. Even so, this can be read as a standalone without feeling you are missing something.
Book five in the Appleton, WV mystery series, keeps the mystery going. Each book features different residents/friends in this town. Golden Touch was easy to read and makes me long for the next book in the series. I received a book from the author but all opinions are my own. And I’m glad to be able to share this with my husband.
Another Fantastic Novel from the the Appleton, West Virginia series. Love this series so much and this one did not disappoint. Full of mystery with romance mixed in. I hope there will be more books in this series. I was given a book from the author. In no way was I required to leave a review. All words are strictly my own thoughts.
Are you in need of a good mystery read? This is a clean mystery. There is a tiny bit of romance between Ryle and Jazzi but not much and it’s definitely low key and not anything that will make you blush.
I loved getting to know Ryle and Jazzi. Their names are unique and stuck in my mind and I found at spots that I really knew what they were going to do. Ryle is such a great guy and he’s trying to do something good for the town by renovating the B and B. Too bad someone doesn’t want him to.
As you rush through the pages to try and see who and why they are making this difficult for Ryle. Plus he hires Jazzi on. She’s not new to town and has her own history. As they start to get close and work together the danger intensifies.
This is book five in the series and you’re going to want to read them all! I really loved the series and am hoping that more is to come. Now the disclaimer. Yes, you can read this book as a stand-alone if you really want to. But why would you want to read one book when you can read five!?
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I have read several of Carole Brown's book and they are always enjoyable. The Golden Touch is Book 5 in the An Appleton WV Romantic Mystery series. I have read a couple books in the series, but not all of them. Each book seems to be a great Standalone book.
Ryle Sadler is a successful and works at an Investment Firm in Appleton, West Viriginia. He is well loved by the Residents of the town. Many in town do not know that he grew up poor and worked hard to reach success. He decides to buy the "run down" Bed and Breakfast in town. Unbeknownst to him, mystery issues lurk beneath the Bed and Breakfast. Jazzi Sanderson has returned to Appleton, WV and strikes up a friendship Ryle. Jazzi is known as a "wild one" and has the opposite reputation in town then Ryle. Ryle and Jazzi begin working on the B&B to fix it up and they also begin to try to unravel the mystery that lurks in the B&B. They begin to find themselves drawn to each other romantically. Will Ryle and Jazzi solve the Mystery of the B&B? Will there be a Romantic Relationship for the pair?
Ryle and Jazz are GREAT characters. Jazzi really is a sweet girl, unlike what the residents of Appleton think of her. Ryle is a strong and focused guy. I really enjoyed reading this book, the mystery and romance all in one is wonderful. The book was very easy to get caught up in and once I started reading I didn't want to stop. The characters and storyline are very intriguing and capture the reader from the beginning. The author does a wonderful job at bringing Faith and God into the book. Jazzi is a new Christian and Ryle is strong his in faith. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who like a Cozy Romantic Mystery! GREAT BOOK!
If you have not read the previous novels in this series you may find reading this one is like coming into the middle of an ongoing story. Ryle is an inspiring character. He loves to help others and has the money to do so. Jazzi is an interesting character. She is trying to overcome her past but is not open about it and that causes much trouble.
The mystery revolves around someone trying to prevent the opening of the B&B Ryle is renovating. I felt the plot was a little confusing on this point. It seems this person wants to keep hidden something dating from generations ago. That motive didn't work for me. A secondary aspect to the plot was Jazzi being in danger. A pet peeve of mine is when a character is overtly threatened (Jazzi) and another vows to protect her (Ryle) yet leaves her unprotected. Ryle does this at least twice. Of course, suspense ensues.
Readers who have been following the series centered in Appleton will appreciate this mystery. Be sure to read the previous novels or you may be confused by some of the characters.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
I have enjoyed other cozy mysteries by this author, and it was fun to get back to the friendly community of Appleton and the adventures and misadventures occurring there. Something suspicious is happening at the old house Ryle Sadler is turning into a bed and breakfast. His new manager, Jazzi Sanderson, may have secrets from her troubled past, but she seems a great addition to the crew. Why is someone trying to stop his new business venture? The characters come across as authentic and behave realistically, although the events they face may be a bit unordinary. The intriguing plot of this fast-paced novel draws you in and keeps you hooked to learn what will happen next—clear to the end. Of course, you can’t help but root for the main characters to find love and a place to belong. This book deals with relationships and healing from the past, worked naturally into the storyline. It could be a compelling one for a book club discussion. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
As a part of the Appleton, WV Romantic Mystery series, this book tells the story of Ryle Sadler and Jazzi Sanderson. He hires her to manage the bed-and-breakfast he restores in Appleton. His amazing success stays hidden from almost everyone around him. Jazzi made mistakes in her past that she now works to overcome. The two work together to solve the mysteries and issues that surround the bed-and-breakfast.
Jazzi just discovered the reality of God and works to serve Him while moving forward from her past. I love how she befriends Ryle’s attorney and creates a place in his world. I also loved the cook that Ryle hires. The food in this book sounds amazing. Including characters from previous books, the author does an incredible job of world-building. So if you enjoy romantic mysteries, check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I loved this book and am awaiting the next book in this series to get answers to the questions that are left unanswered. "The Golden Touch" by Carole Brown is a novel that has mystery and a little bit of romance and danger. This is the 5th book in the series and they can all be read as a standalone but again I ask why wouldn't a reader want to read all of the books to get the complete story. I recommend this series to readers who likes a good story that keeps you guessing to the end as to who the bad guy or woman is and why. I think if you read this book you will want to read the next one coming as I have already mention, not all the questions are answered. I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
I was excited when I got this book. It is the fifth book in the series, but you don't have to read the other 4 to enjoy this one and oh did I ever enjoy it. I loved Ryle. He is just a great guy who gives people the benefit of the doubt and so many chances that it isn't funny. He is also protective of Jazzi.
Jazzi is a great character as well. She has a past that seems to be catching up. The author absolutely does a fabulous job with showing her emotions. I could actually feel them at times. The mystery was more complex than I initially expected and I loved that. Great book!
5/5
Thank you to the author/publisher for the review copy of this book via Celebrate Lit. I received this book in exchange for an honest review and the opinions stated above are 100% mine.
I really enjoyed this book. I was intrigued by it because it was an Appleton, WV mystery. I'm from WV, so that interested me. There is a mystery involved it the Bed and Breakfast that Jazzi and Rylie are trying to renovate and open. The book kept my interest and I could hardly put it down. I highly recommend it. I received the book for being the winner of a contest, but the opinions expressed are my own and were not required.
I think that this was a good mystery with some romance. I recommend reading the four books in this series before reading this one so you know who the minor characters are to each other. I liked Jazzi and Ryle and Paddy. I hope that there will be more books in the series so we can learn a bit more about some of the twists and turns that happened in this book. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
The Golden Touch is the fifth installment from Carole Brown’s An Appleton WV Romantic Mystery series. Since I have not read all of the books in the series and believe this one can be read as a stand alone. I enjoyed reading Ryle and Jazzi’s story. I loved that it had a faith element to it. One that is not too overbearing, giving it a realistic feel to it. I liked it.
I am giving The Golden Touch four and a half stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean mysteries and romantic suspense. I hope to catch up and the other books I have missed from An Appleton WV Romantic Mystery series and find out what has happened previously.
I received a paperback copy of The Golden Touch from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
