When Doctor Jake Elliott sent away for a mail order bride who was also a nurse, he never expected to wait months for her to arrive. He had a busy practice and needed assistance sooner rather than later.
Elsie Johnson was not the bride the local doctor expected but marrying him was the fresh start she desperately needed. With a new name, the haters would not be able to trace her. At least, that’s what she hoped.
Could a simple case of mistaken identity keep her safe from harm? Or will the doctor send her away when he discovers she is not the woman he thought she was?
Author's Promise: This is a heartwarming historical novella with a happily ever after ending and no cliffhangers. It is a clean and wholesome story with nothing more than hugs, kisses, and holding hands.
Walking down the street and watching people go about their day-to-day life, but thinking strange, even dangerous things.
I still clearly remember the day I stood at the traffic lights in downtown Melbourne. There she was, sitting in her car, waiting for the lights to change green. Tapping her fingers impatiently.
Something inside my head went off. Kaboom! An idea formed, and became the beginning of a novel.
Instead of sitting patiently at the lights, she was nervous, extremely anxious as she was being pursued by killers. The next thing she knew, an angry, crazy man was slamming her windscreen with a sledgehammer and she was running for her life.
Jake- a dr who sent for a mob that's a nurse Elsie- a nurse that felt she needed to move on due to work complications. I enjoyed reading this sweet story that is well written with charismatic characters. Their story has a loving HEA.
What an incredibly romantic story this one was! I love it when strangers marry, but still follow through with the spark they just can't seem to resist! Elsie Johnson is just sitting in the town's diner, drinking her tea, and waiting for the stage coach's next departure. Suddenly she is approached by a Dr. Jake Elliott who insists she must be his mail order bride and his new nurse, though he doesn't even know her name! He's rambling about an Emma or Elise or something, while pulling her toward the front door. Next thing she knows she's married to Dr. Dreamy and running his medical office for him. Is it fate or "devine" intervention that the newly arrived woman in town would have a similar name, be a nurse and need a fresh start! Before Elsie stepped into his life, all he cared about was his work and his patients, but what happens when Jake's real mail order bride finally does arrive? Will Love be enough to forgive all the lies? The author, Cheryl Wright beautifully captures the passion and excitement of a new romance and Jake is just so swoon worthy with his blushing new bride. Loved the passion in this story so much, I had to buy it, even though I have Kindle Unlimited! Job well done! Can't wait to read more stories in this series!
The author has penned a sweet and heartwarming story with wonderful characters. This is Elsie Johnson and Dr. Jake Elliott's story. Dr. Elliott had advertised for a MOB who was also a nurse but finds himself waiting several weeks for her to arrive. When Elsie arrives in town tired, exhausted and a bit confused, Dr. Elliott "assumes" it is his MOB, and Elsie does not correct him and finds herself married to him almost instantly. Elsie has secrets of her own and grabs at this opportunity as a way to change her name and hide from the "haters" who are after her. What will happen when Dr. Elliott finds out Elsie's secret? Will danger stalk Elsie? Will the couple develop a loving relationship that grows into a HEA. Be sure to read this fun story to find out. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
A Bride for Jake is the first book from the Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides series from various authors. Cheryl Wright does a great job kicking off this series. I adored this book. It is exactly what I would expect from her writing. I loved the chemistry between Jake and Elsie. The two were so sweet. The story had a little touch of mystery that I liked and kept me keeping reading. It is not a long book and it was easy to read in one sitting.
I am giving A Bride for Jake a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy clean historical romance. I look forward to reading the other books from the Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides series.
I received a digital copy of A Bride for Jake from the author, but was not required to write a review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
4 stars A couple who’s paths crossed only to have the woman be identified as someone else; God knew what He was doing but did the couple? One wanting help in his office and a wife to live. The other running from her past only to have this man come to her as if she was his soon to be bride. Can Gods Guidence and their understanding help them through the confusion?
Elsie and Jake and the rest of the town will grow on you as you read about them. Although this book is a”clean” book it does hint at things like the marriage bed, not wanting breakfast but wanting to go back to bed, just phrases that a preteen may not understand and have questions about. So if your scanning this for a preteen advanced reader I’m not saying no but not saying yes just leave it up to you as their parent.
Spoilers: I liked the characters and the story was good but there were a few little things that caused it to loose stars. so firstly the beginning when the Doc marries his bride. It could have been done really well. but who just grabs a random women and marries her, and what type of woman just lets it happen? it didn't work or make sense. I would also liked to have had an idea of Jakes age. I kinda got the impression he was an older man? who knows. And finally how the the "reveal" was executed was terrible. He doesn't stick around to ask who the women he married and got pregnant is, he storms out she runs off and when he does try to talk to her she apparently didn't get any of the messages from the priest that he had been trying to talk to her and work things out. The end was really rushed from when he found out and it really let the book down.
This is a sweet mail order bride, by mistake, written by Cheryl Wright. She has done a great job with the plot and the characters in this tale. Jake is an overworked small town doctor. To busy to find and court a young lady he sends for a mail order bride. Months go by and no bride arrives. He check to stage arrival each day and low and behold the driver tells him he believes his bride has arrived and in the cafe eating. He find the woman and after a short talk off they go to the church and before she even realizes what’s happening they are married. You will enjoy discovering how their story plays out and the discover their happily ever after.
Elsie had been eating her lunch in a diner during a brief stop during her travels. About 10 minutes later, she somehow had become married to the town doctor.... She never corrected him to her true identity as she thought she could escape what she was fleeing from. Little did she know the love they would be able to find in each other.
I always enjoy this author’s stories, and this one was no exception ☺️
This was a cute story. Dr. Jake is waiting for his mail order bride but he can't remember her name. Emma? Elise? When he sees Elsie in the cafe, he assumes she's his mail order bride and new nurse. Elsie finds herself married to the town Doctor before she has a chance to tell him she's not the bride he's been expecting. She's hoping this town will be safe for her now. But what will happen when Jake finds out the truth? This was cute and clean. A neat idea for this series.
Cute idea but so very choppy. It didn’t make any logical sense at some points as to their behavior and thinking. I skimmed it rather quickly to get the gist of the story as I thought it was a fun idea. First time read for this author, so I don’t know her writing well. But the way it all played out was just too choppy and not logical- how the big reveal happens at the end and they both just leave each other was just weird- as they had been so “in love” at first sight throughout the whole book.

Elsie steps off the stagecoach only to have the local doctor insist she is the long overdue nurse he had been expecting as his mail order bride. She was a nurse, that part was right. Fun characters and a sweet romance that quickly developed kept this story an interesting read. Enjoyed the ending.
This frasseled doctor assumes his mail order bride and nurse has finally arrived! The only thing funnier about their first meeting would be if she wasn't a nurse.
Their marriage was a bit too picture perfect to me, but it fits the plot well. But nothing last forever when built on lies and deceit...except, maybe this time?!
Elsie can normally stand her ground and hold her own but Jake completely overwhelms her when they meet, she is distracted, exhausted, worried and before she knows it married! But did she lie or did Jake assume? A sweet read on Kindle Unlimited.
A good story that just sort of takes off running. It all happens so fast, you are waiting for the "shoe to drop". It all goes do well, it must be Divine intervention. However, the truth will out! It ends well. A nice afternoon's read.
This was a fun twist on a mail order bride. Elsie was a nurse, just not the mail order bride Jake had been expecting, whose name he couldn’t remember. But did he really give her a chance to tell him that. Seems to me like he might have gotten extremely lucky. I enjoyed Cheryl Wright’s story.
This is a story about misunderstandings and clarification. The characters were good together, had humor, and love. But one misunderstanding lead these two into turbulent time.
I can't get enough of the Mistaken Identity Mail Order Brides books! I have enjoyed all the ones that I have read so far. I really liked Jake and Elsie’s story in A Bride for Jake. Highly recommend this series!
Not sure where too, but I know I have had enough with the people looking at me and not happy with me. But it was for the good of the people not having a doctor. People were dying because of the other doctor.
This story about Elsie and Jake is sweet. Elsie gets caught up in the moment when Jake thinks she is his mail-order bride. Unfortunately, she keeps the truth to herself.
Well written and enjoyable story! Elsie and Jake are fun characters. I can’t imagine being in Elsie’s shoes, and kept thinking her past would catch up to her.
