“Everybody needs someone. That’s what you said, right?” Pepper meets his eyes and he’s struck by the way she’s almost pleading. “We both lost. We can help each other.”
Her hand, palm up and open, stretches into the space between them.
Peter hesitates.
Then he takes it.
or: the one where tony was dusted instead of peter, so he and pepper try to figure out the whole ‘family’ thing together.
(oh, and it turns out that the man who died in peter’s arms on an alien planet is his biological father. who knew, right?)

Can’t remember when I read this series (parts 1-4), so best guess. It was interesting - Peter and Pepper do their best after the fight with Ultron to come together and make a family. Old secrets are revealed along the way, and they have to do their best to adjust to everything and everyone they’ve lost.
Later stories deal with the return of the ex-veneers, and deciding whether they want to make peace, and then adjusting again as the world changes when all those lost years prior return to the a world that’s gone on without them.
July 18-19, 2021: read “the little death”. 4.5 stars.
This one is super long for a one-shot, could easily have been broken up into chapters. It takes us back in time to explore the backstory of Peters’ parents - primarily his mother - after the revelations of the last story.
I’m glad I decided to keep reading after putting it aside for a bit, because holy shit. Lots to take in (I don’t want to spoil anything). Also, a major twist at the end.

4.5 stars
Holy shit, they don’t get five minutes to be happy, do they? Not, I guess, that that’s all that different from the movies or comic books - always some drama going on - but still. This story takes us book to the president day, when a situation comes up that puts Natashas’ life at risk. She, Peter, and Bucky to return to the red room looking for clues that will help them re-create her version of the super-serum. Along the way, they find unexpected answers about the missing pieces of her past - and catch the attention of the current head of Hydra, who is looking to create his own perfect soldier.
