I have very much enjoyed Bill Bryson's previous works, but not this one. I have stopped reading it, not because I don't want to learn fun facts about our human vehicle, but because I have found the book written in a style too much like a textbook, one that is often too superficial for the subject matter, and sometimes simply seems to use vocabulary to hear the sound of the words. The length of a human's unravelled gut was, to be fair, pretty breath-taking. As usual, neat turns of phrase, but somehow didn't work for me this time out...I'm still a fan, but I will be more selective going forward as to subject matter.
