USA Today & International Bestselling Author of Romantic Suspense, Thrillers, & Dark Romance books.
Don't be fooled by the positive, unicorn-loving, bubbly nerd. Sonya writes about dark hearts, soul-crushing moments, and the in-between of moral code. In books, she spares no one from the emotional rollercoaster and the gut-wrenching turns, but in real life, she's all about the bounce—about embracing the change, using the hard parts of life to spring back up, and not giving up when things get tough.
Sonya's a sucker for romance, practically inhales books in her free time like they're oxygen, and nurtures an addiction to criminal psychology. Yes, she watches True Crime as a hobby. Forever a student at heart, Sonya enjoys adding degrees, accolades, and certificates to her roster, and is affectionately referred to as Dr. Paige Turner by her peers.
Her family insists she's smart, but they must not see her lose her phone at least twice a week, try to open the front door with the car fob, or toot brain farts on the daily. Luckily, they also think she's funny. But that's just one of the reasons why she loves her big Portuguese family, rose-colored glasses and all.
Pretty Little Pieces ( Once Upon A Heartbreak) is a contemporary young adult romantic suspense retelling of little mermaid. Sonya Jesus brings a unique twist to this modern retelling. Her writing style is captivating and keeps you craving more. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
What an interesting twist of a Little Mermaid fairy tale retelling! I loved the mystery and suspense of it and also a pretty darn good message attached to it too. I adore YA romances and while this moved extremely fast, it was intriguing and kept my attention. To say that Ari was sheltered was like saying that grass is green, it is just a fact. While her father had a good reason, it went a little extreme and locked her away from the rest of the world.
All in all this was intriguing and while there are a lot of aspects to it, it was sweet in an innocent way. I could have done without all of aspects that the author included because I did not think that they were all necessary, but I did enjoy reading it! I give it 4 outta 5 stars and will check out more from this author!
PS: Thank you to Sonya Jesus and Enticing Journey Book Promotions for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to provide an honest review.
Once Upon a Heartbreak is a great collection of retelling of fairytales. Pretty Little Pieces is a retelling of The Little Mermaid. This is a more up to date version and I really enjoyed it.
Ari leads a very sheltered life after her mum was murdered. She wants to see the real world but it’s more complicated than that.
After reading this I’ll definitely be wanting to read more from this author in the future.
I enjoyed this retelling of The Little Mermaid as it's more modern and makes it more relatable. It's suspenseful and heartfelt with some emotional, hard-hitting moments.
This was a twist to a different kind of Little Mermaid story and it was a great way to start this series by different authors, Being a cops daughter is not easy being the daughter of a cop whose wife was murdered so much worse , what is it they say never tell a teenager/ young adult they can't or are not allowed to do something because they will want to do that even more. Very interesting book
I don't believe I've come across a book to this point that has a modern twist on The Little Mermaid, so you can only imagine my delight at reading Pretty Little Pieces since only The Lion King is higher on my favorite Disney movies list. Ari is trying to break out to live a life as her father is way overprotective at the end of the day. See, after her mother was murdered, her police chief father went off the deep end. I absolutely could identify with him since I became a serious helicopter parent after my firstborn was run over by a dirt bike, but he went way overboard at the end of the day, so you already know that Ari will go rogue. Pretty Little Pieces was a story that I loved, and I believe you'll feel the same after hitting those one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
