Find flexible itineraries including a long weekend in Nantucket, a Martha’s Vineyard getaway, and a week seeing the best of Cape Cod.

Learn about unique experiences. Admire 19th-century lighthouses and take in some local lore at the Whaling Museum. Kick back at an old-school drive-in theater or have a lively night at a popular drag show in Provincetown. Stroll the cobblestone streets of Nantucket or pop into the galleries and artisan studios on the Cape.

Many outdoor adventures can be found in Cape Cod. Kayak through misty marshes, spot dolphins from a sailboat, hike to cliffside bluffs, or bike the serene beach paths of Martha's Vineyard.

The travel book offers a variety of experiences on the Cape.

We were headed back to our favorite place yet again- no complaints here - I was hoping this guidebook would give a few new ideas and places to go, things to see in Cape Cod. While it was indeed very informative, I didn't learn anything new. Well organized, covered lots of places.

Post-trip update:

This place is like a more practical Mackinac Island--and I loved it. I'm already planning what I would do on the next trip.

* Going during the (brief) shoulder season was 100% worth it. Cheaper ferry tickets, cheaper lodging, still warm(ish) water, excellent weather. [Maybe we just got really lucky!] Some of the restaurants were already closed for the season, and more were closing the week after we left.
* There is glorious biking throughout the island, mostly down-island. We biked pretty much everywhere except Aquinnah and Chilmark. The paved bike paths and well-marked bike routes made us feel very comfortable while biking.
* We had much better experiences at South Beach than State Beach. The sand and beach were beautiful at South Beach (even though the undertow prevented us from swimming half the time), while State Beach was incredibly windy and rocky. No facilities at either; unclear if that's the same in-season.
* I was a little surprised at the price of the Chappy Ferry, but the afternoon on Chappaquiddick was worth it for the natural beauty. We stopped at Mytoi (small and beautiful), saw the Dike Bridge, trekked to the ocean at Cape Poge, and walked on the beach at Wasque Point (gorgeous and reminiscent of the Big Island in Hawaii).
* The Wednesday farmers' market was a little smaller than expected: maybe the Saturday market in-season would have more selection. (Although I did come home with some goat milk soap and a sweet potato squash.)
* The Martha's Vineyard Museum had great exhibits (and a cute little cafe in-season), and the Cottage Museum was really interesting. (Also, the Camp Meeting Association hosts community activities and events, like tai chi and yoga, that are open to the public.)
* Vineyard Scoops >>>> Mad Martha's for ice cream.
* The Orange Peel Bakery was a delightful surprise
* I would love to do more walks on the trails: Felix Neck, Cedar Neck, all the trails of the Sheriff's Meadow, etc. We did Caroline Tuthill Preserve and really enjoyed it.

Pre-trip review:

As always, the Moon guides provide an excellent overview of things to see and do, with a side of gentle commentary. Solid maps, too.

Good to know about the conservation areas for walking and hiking. Notes on beaches:
* south shore: strongest surf
* east & north shores: milder and warmer
* north shores: clearer water and good sunsets

Bookmarked for Martha's Vineyard:
* Vineyard Haven: Martha's Vineyard Museum, Scottish Bakehouse (eclectic takeout, not haggis and scones!)
* Oak Bluffs: Cottage Museum
* Chappaquiddick: Mytoi Japanese garden
* West Tisbury: farmers' market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, hiking Cedar Tree Neck
* Menemsha: bike ferry (only weekends after Labor Day)

Now that I have been on the trip, I can write a review for this book. It did a good job covering the big highlights but didn’t have all of the sights, places to eat, and places to stay. For a short trip, it would be useful.

Good guidebook for a 4 night stay.
Covered A LOT of beaches and parks for someone who wants a general overview. If you’re super parky though you’ll probably want to check out the NPS website. But this is a good starting point.

Had some fun facts and was written to be easily consumable.
