L. Ann started with the Baxters and followed that with multiple series and genres. While her books feature paranormal, FBI, ex-military and Badass Bikers, L. Ann is writing about the strong women that these men need in their life to help right the world's wrongs and keep their small part of the world safe. The women are extraordinary, strong and determined to make a difference. The men fight for right in every book. Yes, they kill people. Yes, the MC shoots at the bad guys’ feet to cause them pain. Yes, some throw tampons at each other regularly. That being said, they do these things while stopping human trafficking and experimentation, bringing their world into legitimate businesses, fighting gangs to keep drugs away from their town and kids, keep women sheltered safely while trying to stop domestic abuse. These are men that don’t leave a pack, Team member or Brother behind. They don’t treat women as possessions and they don’t cheat. Respect takes on an honorable meaning. Women and kids are cherished. Everyone is looked out for and everyone is equal. L. Ann has made amazing worlds, tackled the taboo subjects and made it easy to imagine living in a world where your protection comes from the vampires, shifters, freaky kids, albinos and orientals, military turned FBI and some Badass Bikers. With readers writing about rereading the series over and over, she feels like she’s told her characters’ stories in a way that would make them proud. Every book will make you laugh, every book will make you angry for the wrong that happens in the world. Every book will make you cry for the pain that a character feels. Every book gives you hope that we may just get it right yet
This book is about a million in a continuing series. If you haven’t read the others, don’t bother starting here, you haven’t a hope of understanding it. I’ve read all the others and I struggle to follow the complex knot of plot twists and character interactions across the series.
This book follows Nova at the Alpha Rising club. He’s ex-military and served with the VP of another club, so was introduced through him to BSC. He messed up in a previous book and it’s nice to see his character expanded and finding redemption as he takes over as SAA for his club. When he takes over he is stuck with problems made by his previous SAA and some of the people he brought in.
Nova is also taken by surprise to find he has a brother he knew nothing about. Parker was brain damaged as a child and it has left him developmentally challenged in some areas, but he’s still pretty bright. This part of the story was really sweet, but I don’t think it was really explained enough. Everyone just accepted that “oh, look these guys look a bit like each other, they must be related so we’ll do a DNA test.” Then it was accepted and no one followed it up to find out how it happened or why. It felt like a bit of a hole in the plot.
The other main character in this book is Mikey, who was raised at the Mass club with the Princes of Prophecy. Her Dad was an officer, so she got the same education as the other Princes of Prophecy kids, even though she had no special abilities. As a result she has always been pushed to excel and succeeded at it. She moves to Alpha Rising because after her father died, her mother ran off within weeks of his death and left her behind. She wanted to get away from all the pity and reminders of her situation.
As usual there is insta-love involved, a bit of external relationship drama and the rest is focused on how happy they are together and working within the club. This is the pattern for all the books, so you shouldn't be surprised. It’s one of the reasons I like them because they are sort of predictable in some ways and totally random in other ways.
As always the plot is complicated, slightly obscure and leaves you scratching your head at times wondering if you missed something. There are often big leaps and you have to struggle to catch up. However, I still love these books and will continue to read them.
Slade Brenton Nova. Former Delta, served with Brinks. Alpha Rising Club officer. His passion is Little Brothers. He finds a younger brother he never knew existed in a young Prospect who is a lot like Garren. An old lady in Mikey. A Protector from Princes. A non ability who made Protector at 16. She worked with Taylor Blackhawk in setting up teams. She is lot like Jessie Lepointe-James. The Clubs are all spread thin. Vetting and training brothers is not going fast enough. Those who aren't making the cut are a problem. When Nova meets Mikey, he tries to keep things professional. His previous girlfriend he caught cheating and had her cut taken. Then Honor Lepointe-James makes a play for him, and isn't happy with being rejected. She uses Mikey as a means to get even. Mikey lives badass. After her father was killed and her mother leaving Princes in a ugly way she struggled. Not being ability, she had no real place at Princes. Nova's job offer is a dream come true for her. She proves her worth on her first mission. Nova is so like her, she wants to explore more than just brothers on a team. A push from Major has her telling Nova what she feels and finds Nova feels the same. Cort is giving them a week. Promoted to SAA. He is finding that his predecessor, Hitch, had done a lot of damage. Allowing drugs. Taking bribes. Pushing through prospects and brothers who wouldn't make the cut any other way. Cleaning house is spreading them thinner. Honor is causing trouble. Aylen Knight comes to Alpha. She is good at everything. A hard worker. Who lives badass. Is happy to step in and lend a hand. Major and Jordan are still under threats. Mikey is seriously injured, due to lack of support. Justice makes Mikey pro part of his crew, sometimes he feels long over due. Nova, Mikey and his little brother Parker, because a solid family. Mikey and Kyler implemented a training evaluation program that he!ps get brothers to where they need to be. Putting the clubs back into balance. Justice once again shines. Being badass is so much than fixing it, brother. Words that give insight and inspiration to the Clubs officers and brothers. He is honored by Prez, when he tells all that lesson aren't always from our fathers, our kids are fuckin smart too. Love this series, it never disappoints. Fun fast paced and just enough sexy. Great epilogue, with plans made for future clubs. Can't wait for what happens next.
Just wow, lol. I always hate it when I come to the end of her books. I don't want them to end! Lucky for us she keeps writing☺. The bsc and clubs just keep getting bigger and added on to but that's a good thing because that just gives her more characters to write about. Nova and Mikey's story was a good one. The way L. Ann writes you don't just read about the main characters you learn more about other ones that you thought you already knew, lol. I like that. Cort is still Cort but through these series we have had a chance to see him develop too. A big thing you pick up from these books is that different IS NOT BAD, it's just different. You know, the same but different☺. That is a lesson many people around the world could stand to learn. I have d-ability kids in my family and I also have a fairly diverse family and guess what? They're the same but different. L. Ann teaches these lessons along with writing hilarious, imaginative and sometimes serious stories. I can't get enough. Thank you for another awesome book! I can't wait for the next one, tomorrow right😁
Another awesome book! She NEVER EVER disappoints. I buy her books BEFORE I read them. I started getting them on Kindle unlimited and very quickly bought every single one of them. I've read all her books twice and thinking I want to again. No one writes like she does. It's hard to explain how much I get from her stories. She has so many messages in their content if you open your mind to see them. I have two authors who do the freaky perfectly, one passed away awhile ago. I stop whatever I'm reading whenever her books come out to read it. That's how amazing her stories are. I almost bought her box sets that came out until I realized I already have them. Keep writing your stories, they make my day!!!!!!
‘Being Badass is so much better than fixing it, Brothers.’ So true! This should definitely be a shirt irl!! Life is too short to sweat the small stuff and fixing everyone’s shit! Learn to find your badass and own it! Love Nova and Mikey and love how their love it pure. They don’t let anything come in and taint it. Grocery shopping seriously made me laugh so hard but really it is great to see a team effort! I love this series and this author and can’t say enough about it!! If you haven’t started it, do! So good and you are missing out on some serious great and good times!! The stooges alone!! Man! Good times!
Wow, another one that I missed reviewing and this one had Parker !!! Plus, Little Ben losing it with his laser 😂 I really think he's turning into his Dad Knight more and more as he gets older . Seeing one of the Prince kids acting up is also a suprise. Nova and Mikey are perfect for each other and the way Mikey helps Cort with the problems in the BSC means she's perfect in her new home. Nova finding Parker and the surprise between them had tears rolling at times !! I did love Nova and Brinks way of burning of that anger at Keesog😜
L Ann Marie has hit it out of the park again! I loved Nova and Mikey, they are perfect for each other. This book has everything that we've come to love about the BSC West, but also has a feel reminiscent of the best of the original MC books. If you are new to these books I would recommend starting at the beginning (reading order is available on the authors website and they are available on KU.
Badass to the core, I've been a fan and follower for a while and this book!!!!!!! Explosive and Mind slapping. New Characters and interesting new ideas, Miss Marie has upped the ante once again. Addiction to her Badass World is a drug I gladly will take. Nova is a shocker, never saw that coming but the plots all work well with the back story. The Heroine is still a mystery but, falling in love with Sheila and Eliza years ago, yeah she's a bit of both. Love it.
I don’t have the words to show my appreciation for your skills. Before I read, I tell myself, I’m going to be Badass and don’t cry. I cried, laugh did the 😱moment. Loved every bit. Keep them coming, if you are not reading these books, I don’t know what to tell you. Join in, it’s an adventure and this author does not disappoint. Get your copy now...Nova, Mikey, and Parker are awesome.
FANTASTIC!!!! When I get one of these books, I can't put it down until I have finished it. In these dark times these books are a ray of Sunshine!!!! Thank you, Thank you so very much!!!! We Really need some BADASS in this life!!!! I am so looking forward to the next step in the journey of this Amazing series!!!
Wow!!! This series just keeps getting better. This is Nova's story and in this you meet Mikey...his all in. The books rolls on from the previous. The whole series needs to be read to understand all the players. I love this world L Ann Marie has created. This is a must read.
From the Masters to the MC, to the Providence series to BadAss. L. Ann Marie always sucks me in to her world. I find myself always falling back into her worlds. This was a great peak into the world of L. Ann Marie agaim
Loved this book, Great characters and interesting storyline, remembering all the interlinked clubs and characters is getting easier. Can't decide whose story I am looking forward to next .
Yet another great read on the incredible journey this talented writer is taking us on. And after many connected series I am still always awaiting her next book that started for me with Knight many years ago. Thank you.
I love Nova Parker and Mickey. It was a great story with Nova and Mickey they had to learn to trust each other and their love for each other. I loved it cant wait for the next one
I love it when an author takes a little known character and brings them to life in their own story.
Nova and Mikey were amazing together and the storyline flowed well. We get the usual “rents” shenanigans with LB throwing in some drama reminiscent of Knight.
The clubs are growing fast and the action doesn’t stop.
Wow, this book just went lickety split! loved the characters. just wish we'd found out more about Nova and Parker's true parentage. great characters. lots of action. A lot of revelations! hope there's another new story soon. what's happening with hemi and back at Massachusetts or Princes? how about some Pacific coast clubs? Reread April 2023. Enjoyed yet again!
