Fans of Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers will love this nail-biting new book from crime author Emma Tallon, set on the same mean streets as her bestselling Tyler Family series.
Scarlet Drew is new to London’s criminal underworld, but she’s hell bent on making a name for herself as joint head of the family firm alongside her aunt Lily. But when Scarlet finds herself alone with a rival business owner at a black-tie event, she is little prepared for what happens next.
Determined not to let the drunken lech get away with his crime, Scarlet hatches a plan for revenge – she’s going to steal his most valuable asset and put her name on the map. But as she gets to work, she fails to notice a silent stranger watching her every move. Someone knows exactly what she’s up to, and is plotting their own way to get their hands on the priceless goods.
Face to face with a new enemy, Scarlet fears the Drews may have finally met their match. With the whole family at risk, it’s going to take everything they have to stop their empire going up in smoke. But will everyone survive the fight?
Emma Tallon is a British author of gripping, gritty, organised crime thrillers.

I had read Emma Tallon’s Boss Girl and really liked it. Like last time I realized later that I have started reading a series out of turn. This book is the second in the ‘Drew’ family series (the first being ‘Her Revenge’). The story is a new one though and I did not feel lost starting on the second book (though obviously not the ideal thing to do). This being Emma Tallon’s second book I have read, have to say this is excellent gang – crime writing.
Scarlett joins the Drew family enterprise headed by her aunt Lily, which has a bunch of illegal businesses with some legitimate ones as cover. Scarlett and her mom do their best to get their lives on track after the passing of Scarlett’s dad. There are also Lily’s children – Ruby who has been wayward but after some force disciplining seems to be getting her life back on track, twins Cillian and Connor who always stay strong to keep the firm going. There is also Ray, whose association with Lily goes back many years and always looks out for her.
Scarlett gets invited to an after-event party and is assaulted. She is determined to get even (and more) with Lily and the family’s support. They plan a daring reprisal, but they gradually realize that what they have set off to do is more audacious, bigger in scale and dangerous than anything they have done in the past. On the other side is a strong woman too, who will not back down. The character development is exceptional with very strong female characters. As the story progresses, I was drawn to many of the characters – especially Scarlett & Lily. The pace is excellent and this is a page turner. As a gang – crime series, there is violence – some bad in two episodes but was at a level which I could take. The way the book ends, it is clear the story is set to continue.
A book & author I strongly recommend. But well, do start with ‘Her Revenge’ which has great reviews on goodreads as well. I am heading to that very soon, and also hope the next book in the series comes out soon.
This is very good gang – crime writing.
My rating: 4.5 / 5.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for a free electronic review copy.
No secret I love this author’s books and this the 2nd in her new series ( about the Drew’s ) is my favourite yet ( it can also be read as a stand alone ) So, the Drews are back, and back for business, but have they bitten off more than they can cope with this time?,Scarlett and ‘the family boss’ Lily don’t think so, the twins ‘Cillian and Connor’ are not so sure, as the stakes get higher the tension matches it and I was thrust into just a perfect gangland family drama There are old scores to settle, new enemies to make and new additions to the cast that make good and exciting layers to the story and all this done with Lily’s watchful eye missing nothing, I love her, her steely manner and no nonsense approach yet her 100% loyalty to family mean she is a wonderful character to read And then Ruby re-appears and what a different Ruby ( will say no more on that ) From the opening line to the final twist of a cliff hanger last line I was involved and enjoying the fierce, powerful and dangerous situations and antics the Drew’s got themselves in My favourite book family at the moment and the only disappointment was when I finished it knowing got to wait for the 3rd installment Loved it
Scarlet Drew is new to London's criminal world, but she's hell bound on making a name for herself as joint head of the family firm alongside her aunt Lily. But when Scarlet finds herself alone with a rival business owner at a black-tie event, she is little prepared for what happens next.
Scarlet is just eighteen years old but she is already proving herself as the new head of the family alongside her aunt Lily. They have a new money laundering business, the police are still after Scarlet for Jasper's death and Scarlet wants revenge on the person at the black-tie event who had put her in a dangerous situation. This is only half of what goes on in this well written book.
Emma Tallon's books just keep getting better. This is my favourite one so far. Filled with twists, shocks and surprises, I could not put this book down. The more I read, the more I needed to know. The characters are all back from the first book and some new ones too. But Emma, how could you end this book like that!! My anxiety is through the roof. I need to know, NOW!! Roll on book 3.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #EmmaTallon for my ARC of #HerRival in exchange for an honest review.
Having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series I was super excited to make a start on Her Rival and it absolutely did not disappoint! Enough twists and turns to snap your neck (felt relevant given the episodes of violence within the book 👀)!
As I said in my review for Her Revenge, the first book in this series, I just LOVE the Drew family. Fierce, dangerous, but oh so likeable!
Let me finish by saying THAT LAST LINE 😳 Bring on installment number three!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review 📖
I enjoyed this much better than Her Revenge. Ruby is beginning to make the plot much more interesting. The London Underworld is beginning to get much more interesting and daring. Can’t wait to see what Her Betrayal brings.
From start to finish this book has had me gripped the twists and turns are brilliant. The Drew family are back and Lily is worried about her daughter Ruby as she hasn't been seen or heard of for weeks which is not like Ruby. So Lily goes out looking around Ruby's old haunts and asking questions but no one knows where she is, her old neighbour tells Lily of the men coming round after her too. So Lily goes home knowing nothing and having to go to a charity auction with Scarlet even this is business to Lily. With every turn of the page this book gets better and the end well all i can say is wow every lover of Emma Tallon's books is going to love it.5* but worth more.
Book two into the world of the notorious Drew family.
Following on in the series Scarlet has taken over the family empire from her father Ronan working along side Aunt Lily.
After a night out Scarlet finds herself in a unforgettable position and seeks revenge on taking a masterpiece.
At just 18 Scarlet is very intelligent, ruthless and will do anything for family and along with Aunt Lily who is my favourite brings a strong female lead which brings this book to life.
'Her Rival' is an excellent fast paced gritty read that will keep you turning those pages into the small hours of the night.
With an explosive ending I am already counting down the days for the next installment.
This is the second book in the Drew family series and I absolutely loved it! I thought the first book was brilliant and this one is just as good, if not better. Lily and Scarlet come up with a plan of revenge after an incident at a party, but it comes with a serious risk to their family business. It’s an ambitious plan and things don’t go as smoothly as they hoped, but Lily is extremely clever and knows how things work in the criminal world. There’s lots going on in this book and whilst some scores are settled, there’s a couple of shocks in store at the end of the book. This is a gripping crime thriller that well and truly had me hooked. I can’t wait to read the next one! Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is the second book in the Drew family series. This book was another absolutely brilliant read in this gangland family crime thriller. Emma is one of these authors I don’t even bother reading the blurb when I hear she has a new book out, I just dive straight in. Her Rival had me completely gripped from the very beginning and had me totally engrossed until the very last page. This book ended with a bang and now I just cannot wait to read Book 3. A massive 5⭐️ read from me.
As the first book in this series, Her Revenge, ended, Scarlet Drew has laid her father Ronan to rest, and got closure by ending the life of his killer, Jasper Snow. However, the death was made to look like a suicide. As this second book in the series opens, Scarlet finds herself being questioned by the police concerning suspicious circumstances surrounding Jasper's death.
Ronan was the family head of the firm, a family that is part of the London underworld. Now Lily, Ronan's sister, is the head, and Scarlet has a powerful role. While Scarlet is dealing with the police, Lily is dealing with another sensitive matter, and that is concerning her daughter Ruby, Ruby has been missing for quite some time and Lily is turning over every stone in order to locate her. Once Ruby returns, it becomes more than clear how she feels about Scarlet. She is not too happy playing second fiddle to her cousin.
Scarlet attends a black-tie event and escapes a dangerous situation and thus sets in motion a plan of revenge. However, she just might have met her match, and is soon facing the challenge of her life. There can be only one winner, even if the results prove tragic. Meanwhile, the family will do whatever they can to protect their own. This gritty story by Emma Tallon is a thrilling read from the very first page to the shocking ending. With the introduction of new characters, Ms. Tallon has cleverly whet our appetites right at the end of this story, which will no doubt force readers wait for the third book with bated breath. Scarlet and Lily are remarkably strong women and this series is proving to be just as explosive as her Anna Davis series.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Book two in the series featuring the Drew family, and boy are they back with a bang.
Ruby features heavily in this story, desperately trying to find her feet as part of the family again, with mixed results. I found myself warming to her so much and willing her to do good things. However fate may be against her this time.
The family as a whole has a huge fight on their hands, and they need to delve deep to work their way through.
Yet again there is a twist at the end which promises more to come in the future, and I can’t wait.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.
this author has done it again what a story and loads of twists so addictive . Scarlet is still being hounded buy the police for Jaspers murder they say not suicide . Scarlet wants to open a hairdressers to launder the money with her best friend as manager . Cath is so bored at home and wants to help all the time . Lily is so worried about her daughter Ruby but she turns up on a Sunday family gathering and what she tells Lily makes her so mad . Cillian has finally found a woman who he can be totally do as he wants . but Lily and Scarlet have a big score to settle and will they get away with it or will it backfire this story is so dam good i so recommend this author
Welcome back the Drew family and what a return from start to finish this book had me hooked. A great gangland saga with plenty of twists and turns. Emma's books just keep getting better and better she's fast becoming the gangland queen to beat. I can't wait to read the next installment. I would highly recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC
The second in the new series and it’s hard to remember that Scarlett is only 18, she has a lot to cope with in this story as well as the fallout from the first book in how she dealt with her dad’s murderer, there are a few twists in this story and just when life seems to be going well for one of the characters, it changes in a split second and the reader is left guessing. So I’m now waiting impatiently for the next book

This is the second book I have read by this author. It is also the second book in the 'Drew Family' series but can be read as a standalone. The first book I read and the first book in this series is called "Her Revenge" which I would also recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and colouful cover and its intriguing synopsis. The synopsis stated "Fans of Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers will love this nail-biting new book from crime author Emma Tallon, set on the same mean streets as her bestselling Tyler Family series" . I am a fan of Martina's books so am interested to see if it will live up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Emma and if this is half as good as "Her Revenge" it will be an amazing read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a pologie and 69 chapters. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in London, England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Scarlet Drew, Lily Drew, Ruby Drew, Cath and Cillian Drew. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
OMG EMMA!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!!! WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY EXPLOSIVE BOOK AND BOMBSHELL CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!! I HOPE YOU'VE WRITTEN YOUR NEXT BOOK BECAUSE I CANNOT WAIT!!!
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions and the perfect atmosphere for the storyline. The synopsis and cover work perfectly with the book cover.
The book is gripping and addictive from the very first page until the last. I was absolutely hooked throughout with the suspense and tension filled plot. I enjoyed delving back into the underworld and getting to know more about the Drew family worked within the family, the factory and all the other gangs. The storyline was intricately woven with so many sub plots that kept me completely engaged throughout. The way Emma has written it really helps your imagination picture everything going on. It is filled with laughter, love, crime, loss, shocks, twists and one hell of an explosive ending!!! What an absolute cliffhanger to end on with not just one shocker but 2 massive bombshells!!! If I am right with what I think happened I am absolutely devastated but I won't say anymore as not to spoil things for future readers but watch this space!! I was absolutely on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with a pounding heart throughout this absolutely gripping and addictive book!!!
I really enjoyed meeting the Drew family again as well as the other characters. I have also learned Emma's previous books were based on the Tyler family who we also met in this series so I am looking forward to going back to read that series as well as any further books in the Drew family serious. Scarlet is definitely a force to be reckoned with as is Lily and who doesn't love a strong kick @ss female in the crime world!! I was absolutely fascinated by all the businesses that she managed to keep afloat. I also enjoyed reading about what Connor and Cillian got up to and having twins myself it's quite interesting to see how these twins worked. I loved both of their huge and hilarious yet serious when needed personalities and they slightly remind me of the Weasley twins from Harry Potter with their cheeky sides. I also had a bit of a soft spot for Ray and really like him. Harry is just an absolute rat and I am glad about what happened with him. I actually started to feel for Ruby in this book and loved how she was starting to try and help out with the family even if maybe for the wrong reasons. Every single character was strong and had their own unique personalities and each definitely left an impression on me.
I am looking forward to reading more of Emma's books and it would be intriguing to see them turned into movies. Emma, congratulations on yet another explosive hit and here's to your next success 🍻!!!
Overall a fast paced, explosive page turning, gripping and addictive adventure from the underworld.

Gangland crime … A world where the powerful men are ruthless and where the powerful women might even be more dangerous. They are beautiful, rich and elegant, but don’t let their looks fool you. Underneath they are lionesses fighting for who they love and what is theirs.
More than once I was yelling: ‘Watch out! It’s a trap’, but who is trapping who and who will be the biggest loser in the end?
Gangland crime also means revenge and payback. It’s often very cruel, because if they want something from you, they will get it. They will make you talk. One particular scene I was going ‘iiiiieeeeuuuuwww’. I assure you I felt it too. 🙂
There is of course more than violence and crime. This story is also about the deep love for your family even though for them family means more than just blood relatives, about forgiveness once the rage dies down, about finding a new purpose in life, about new love and acceptance, about disappointment.
When you reach the last chapter, you think: ‘oh no, I don’t want this story to end’, but you have book three to look forward to. You already start to count down and then the author makes you wish time would hurry up. Sometimes you wish you could turn back the clock. Now you wish you could turn it forward. 5 stars
Set on the same mean streets as her bestselling Tyler Family series. Which is one of my favorite series that never wanted to end. Now I have this series which is just as good. Another crime family series. This is the 2nd book and took off from where Her Revenge ended. Scarlet is at a party when a circumstance landed in her lap and she decided revenge is oh so sweet. With her family's support they go after something bigger than they have ever dealt with. Hoping they haven't gotten in over their heads. Meanwhile the black sheep of the family, Ruby, is also looking into something. Something in which Scarlett could get hurt emotionally. This is a page turner and one I could not put down. The ending though leaves you with your mouth hanging open. I will be looking towards the next book in the series. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the book to review.
Another great read about this family with some unexpected twists. An absolutely brilliant ending leaving you waiting for the next book, not too long I hope
Book two of the Drew family. I loved meeting this family earlier in the year and I enjoyed catching up with them in this book. We also have two new characters that will be interesting to see how they interact with the family in the next book. Billie being what looks like a serious girlfriend and of course John who’s actually going to set the cat amongst the pigeons when they realise his occupation. Emma always writes drawing you into the book and leaving you wanting more. Roll on book three in this fab series
Another fantastic gritty installment of this new series, I've always loved Emma's books and in my opinion they just keep getting better! A lot of new and interesting characters are introduced in this one and I can't wait to see what happens next. One of my favourite series by far!
Noooo don’t leave the ending like that ! Absolutely fantastic read but so many unanswered questions, which can only mean one thing another one ! As soon as I started this book it was absolutely apparent of the author’s skill to transport you. I was fully immersed in the characters old and new ! Scarlet albeit the baby of the family is by no means the baby. She is smart hard talented and ambitious. She does have a heart as she rescues Sandra from the brothel after she shared the clap! Natalie her best friend who isn’t really shall we leave that there ! I love how Rubys character develops in this and am excited to see how and if she progresses. Lilly the matriarch of the family what a ferocious but fabulous woman! What happens with her and Ray .!! Cillion and his chiropractor cracker do they marry ? Cath does she become the savior of the salon ? No spoilers from me just please write another soon !
The Drew Family are back. Gritty London crime thriller, Hard Hitting right through. Cath Drew protects her daughter Scarlet and she is now following the footsteps of her aunt Lily sticking to her story with the old bill, she would not fall at the first hurdle, it's now her chance to show the underworld and her aunt what she is made of. Lily Drew is out seeking her daughter Ruby in the drug underworld getting in touch with old acquaintances but Ruby tends to drop them faster than hot bricks. Ronan Drew's death has left a big gapping hole in the firm and his family. OH MY this is one cracking read, a real eye opener, I loved her revenge and her rival brings us new characters so role on the next book from the Drew family.
Whoa! What an ending! A great slow build to amazing climax! Scarlet is settling in the family business - and ready to start her own venture. A hair salon to help launder money - Scarlet hires her best friend to manage and be lead stylist. After Ray grabs Ruby from the streets, forcing her to get clean, Ruby joins the salon, determined to put her cousin in her place. I definitely enjoyed this second book more than the first. Looking forward to the next!
Here's an author that I can always recommend! Especially as she is one of my favourite authors! Emma's books just get better and better. So when her latest book Her Rival by Emma Tallon came available.......I had to change my plans for that day and put everything on hold. However, one thing I will say "Don't start reading her books just before you go to bed as you will not want to put your kindle down!"
Her Rival is the second book in the notorious Drew series, and was another superb book and I was hooked from the very first few pages till the end.
Scarlet Drew is new to the family business and to London’s criminal underworld , However, she is settling well. One thing Scarlet wants to do, is start her own new venture; a hair salon. Scarlet has no idea how to style hair etc and hires her best friend to manage and to be the main stylist. Scarlet want to help her Aunt Lilly to launder money for the family business. Ray an old friend of the family, grabs Ruby.........who is Lilly's daughter from the streets, and he forces her to get clean from drugs before it's too late for her. Ruby gets clean and then joins Scarlet's salon. She has one thing on her mind and that she is determined to put her cousin Scarlet in her place.
WoW what a book.....especially as it has a OMG ending!!! Emma this book was superb and I highly recommend it
Big 5 Stars from me!
