Princess in name only, Eira Lempta has a lot on her plate. As council to the Light Court monarch, she’s formidable on the Fae stage of politics, and has been instrumental in the furthering of relations and cooperation between the two different courts, and the numerous factions. The only child to the head of the Ice Court, she is expected to carry on the legacy of the family and court, even if she’s not going to run it. Resigned to the life she’s been allowed to have, and the person she’s been betrothed to wed, she moves through her life as efficiently as possible, with little opinion of how it’s going. Until something unplanned happens. Now, everything is possible, and Eira is at odds with who she was and who she actually is, what she wants and what’s wanted of her. Choices will be made. Choices that will start a domino effect that will echo through Light Court, and all of Faerie.
This story almost feels slow burn. But that is fitting for the political representative between the human realm and Faerie. It is also what her father wants out of her. She loves being busy, stressed, tension filled and is ready to take on any assignment from the queens of Faerie. I will let you know that this story has ALL the heat, romance, sexy times, and snarky-ness that we have loved through all these stories and this one is just delightful. There is some SERIOUS enlightenment in this story that ties into our last court (Fever Court) and I had so many “whoa” moments. There are characters you are going to hate with your entire being after you finish this story. Also, how do you not fall in love with a guy that says, “Not at all, and I’m not against killing him to save her grief, but I’m not giving her up. She’s a princess. I was called and I will do what Faerie intends, love her, care for her, and keep her happy. And if I have to start a personal war because of it, so be it. I will do so gladly.”
All that said, it is not my favorite in the series, and that damn cliff-hanger sucked. I know that the next story is right around the corner next month and I cannot wait to jump right off that cliff.
I am loving getting to know Eira more. We have only seen her as an advisor and lawyer, now we get to meet the princess. Her betrothed is a jerk, but there seems to be now way out of this arranged marriage yet. It is lovely to see Eira connect so fully (finally) with her 1st guard. If only her father was as open to it...
I was bummed that life has been so chaotic lately that I couldn't did into this the day it came out. The good news was I knew it would be worth the wait. I was not disappointed. I would never be able to pick a favorite princess but I'm so enjoying getting to know Eira. I love how brilliant and focused she is and how often she outsmarts those who underestimate her. My favorite thing about these books is how differently each princess finds their happy. I can't wait to see how Eira's unfolds. I am excited for my next escapeto faerie.
OMG!!!! These only get better. I cannot wait for June to get here so I can find out what happens next. I know that everything will work out but I love the way Faust is having to work for it. I love the cliffhanger and hope Tanner gets what is coming to him soon.
I love it! Eira is awesome and i love Faust, i hope her father wakes up. Can’t wait for june 8th, for The next book!
You’ll have to read all The previous books they are amazing, The authors are someting else, start with sleeping court. I’ve read them all in A week, so good! And The amazing thing is that The books are wide, as a kobo reader i love that!
Ice court princess is icy! Don't tell her what to do!
Welcome to ice court. Home of old traditions. Human traditions. Arranged marriages. Well, faerie doesn't agree. This ice princess doesn't agree. Knowledge is power and she will find her way!
This is the first book in the Ice Court Series. Though this is the first book in the series, you need to read the previous 7 seven series to have a hope of ever understanding the cast of characters and the plot. These series start with Slumber, Book 1 of the Sleeping Court Series.
This is the story of how the Ice Court comes back to power and the only way for that to happen is for the Court to allow Eira to come to power as the Ice Court Princess, by gaining her Guard, her Heart Eternal (or soul mate) and the god, that she must awaken. However, Eira is trapped by her duty and love for her father who has locked her into a marriage contract.
Her unhappy engagement prevents her from finding the people she needs to truly establish her Court but her father won’t relinquish power as it is written into the charter for their house that only a man can rule it. He has allowed her to run things related to the fae side of things because she’s good at it and she doesn’t need to hide her huge horns in Faerie.
Eira loves her father and her people and hates her fiancé. She’s pretty miserable but doesn’t know how to escape. She’s drawn to Faust a faeblin (fae/goblin hybrid) who is the son of the now-dead goblin king.
Faust is called to Eira as a member of her guard, or maybe more. He only knows that she is his Princess and he must do everything in his power to make her happy. If that means staying away, then he will do that, but if she shows signs of wanting him then he is hers.
The whole set-up for this series is tough. Ice Court is important to bring the two sides of Faerie into unity but they don’t want to let go of the old ways. On the other hand, the ruler of the house seems to love his daughter and want her happiness, provided it falls into the guidelines laid out by the Court Charter. Transforming this house is essential to killing Poseiden’s legacy.
A lot happens in this first book of the series. The set-up is complicated and what I’ve written above barely scratches the surface. Most of the world-building has already been done in previous books but we still learn more about Hybrasil, in particular the Observatory, where Faust works. We also learn a bit more about the faeblins.
Both Eira and Faust are interesting characters because they have been overshadowed most of their lives by larger than life fathers, though Eira has affection for hers and Faust never did. Both were pushed around like pieces on a game board and had no real say in what they became, though once again, Eira is happy with her job. It sounds like both fathers are two sides of the same coin.
Most of the focus of this book is on Eira and Faust and their relationship and the huge set-up of what’s going on with Ice Court. It’s an interesting read and the relationship is sweet, but is tainted by Eira being engaged, even if it’s been imposed upon her, and them having to sneak around. Eira is placed between doing what Faerie wants and making herself happy and doing what her father wants and making her House happy.
The book ends on a big cliffhanger and I can’t wait until 8th June 2021 for the next book to come out!
