Berbekal ilmu 100 hari Duolingo, saja cuba-cuba baca. Seronok juga bila faham cerita.

Kisah Clara bercuti di rumah kawannya yang bernama Celine di Lyon. Di samping melawat tempat-tempat menarik, Clara juga dapat praktis bahasa Perancis dengan keluarga dan kawan-kawan barunya.

Best juga ni kalau ada kawan duduk kat negara lain macam Clara lol.

Good, but it requires a good level of basic French to fully understand.
The point is that this is an adult story, however, although there is a lexicon under each text, the story sometimes lacks benchmarks to understand the context. For example, the sentences “Après quelques stations, elles arrivent à Bellecour, où beaucoup de gens descendent avec elles. C'est l'une des stations les plus importantes de la ville, parce que les gens y changent de ligne ou y descendent pour aller travailler dans la zone ”. Only “Après”, “où” and “travailler” are translated. However, the introduction informs that learners must have an average level of French to fully understand. Here, the vocabulary for understanding the context is not always sufficiently developed. This requires a level more than 2 or 3 years of French. Likewise, the expression "un tas de" a few lines before is not translated at all.
On the other hand, everyday French culture is discussed throughout the days of the heroine's stay. We find the transports, presentation of people, school furnitures, places, health, gastronomy.
In short, the idea is good, with interesting texts following an American student in France, with a small comprehension questionnaire at the end of each chapter, but you must already have a good vocabulary and a good knowledge of French grammar to fully understand.

I must say I enjoyed meeting Clara and her French friends and reading about her experience and adventures in France very much. I am happy to learn, just like Clara, about French culture and traditions, new idioms, new words, and new grammar points.

However, knowing I started this series from the middle (this is book 3 in the series), I am unsure about the knowledge level before reading this book. If the target group is beginner-intermediate, I think there would have been more words to introduce as "new;" the book is not for beginners per se, but I feel that there is a need to point out and translate more words.

On the other hand, some words were repeatedly marked as "new," which I felt unnecessary, as we already learnt those words in the previous chapter(s). Also, some words were bolded in the text but never appeared below the paragraph with the translation. Maybe a few thoughts to think about for the next book in the series.

What I appreciate a lot are the questions after every chapter. Good to test ourselves, our vocabulary, understanding, and overall knowledge.

My opinion is that this book is a good brief manual for learning about everyday topics, with words that we can implement in our everyday speech in French.

The Adventures of Clara is a collection of 10 short stories recounting the events of Clara’s year visiting her French penpal, Celine and staying with her family in Lyon. The stories include meeting Celine’s friends, going on holiday, going to a birthday party and going on a date etc.
Specific vocabulary is shown in bold and then listed at suitable gaps in the text.

I really liked the short story format as each story was easy enough to read in a single sitting. The stories are very relatable and use useful everyday speech and phrases. The titles of each chapter and the pictures give a good clue of what to expect from each story.

I would recommend this to any French learners around the A2 level.

There are helpful words to add to vocabulary that makes the story enjoyable to read and understand, as well as questions after each chapter to improve reading comprehension. Each chapter focuses on topics so the reader can easily learn the application in a proper context. This book illustrates French culture that would be loved especially by students who want to immerse themselves in the beautiful country.

A wonderful book to learn and improve our knowledge of French with Clara.
Clara is an American teenager who is going to spend a year studying at the lycée in Lyon. She is staying with a French family. There she learns about all the French customs, education, clothes, and above all about food as it is something really important for French people.
Learning a new language is not only just about the language, but the way they live and the way they think.

I’m a student in my first year of college and the transition from high school to college has been difficult in terms of the content I learn at my French A level. After reading this book and picking up new vocabulary I can already see my French grade improving, along with my confidence in this subject! This book really helps when studying and I’m forever grateful I came across it :)

I didn't know this was a series at first, BUT I had no issue with jumping in since I know some French. This book was done well enough that I will be going back to read the first two and will read more than once since that is the best way to learn a language is repetition. I love that it was learning with an actual story to go with it. A clever concept I haven't come across till now.

This is the first french book I've read. Surprisingly, it was easy to understand. I still can't believe I finished it, though I needed to consult a dictionary here and there due to my limited vocabulary

For anyone starting or currently learning french, this is an excellent book to read. It incorporates many words used in daily life, contributing to a better understanding of the french language

The story is cute and it's a great way to improve your French by learning some words in real context. Good for intermediate learners (at least a B1 French level) otherwise it's not a book for a complete beginner.
