Ms. Anderson has written another perplexing mystery for Grace to solve. Although Grace has only been in Covenstead for eight months, she's beginning to feel at home and she wants to do the best she can for her new community. Maude had one case that she was never able to solve that Grace decides to tackle. Plenty of twists and turns that lead Grace to discover not just an answer for one murder but to realize that there may have been a second one by the same person. Enjoyable reading.
I received a free copy of this book as an ARC release. I am a big fan of Amorette Anderson, and this is my favorite series by this author. Our MC, Grace, arrived in Covenstead in book one in answer to an ad for an RN, and she discovers this New England town is unlike anything she has ever seen before....it is magical. The doctor performs medical procedures, including surgery, using magic. Grace assists him and learns more about magical medicine every day. The secondary part of Grace's duties is to be the town sleuth. In this entry she is working on a cold case which her predecessor never succeeding in solving. I love a mystery that I can't resolve on my own, but which doesn't pull a solution out of thin air. I didn't see the perp coming, and yet all the clues were there. Grace, her familar Lucky (an absolutely adorable pit bull) and the supporting characters around her are all believable and so much fun. I totally recommend this book, and the rest of the series.
With business being slow to nonexistent Grace hears about her predecessor’s, Maude, one unsolved case. She decides to take a look at it to see if anything was missed. After the wrong man was accused and went through the “treatment “ he came out unable to function, yrs later just now getting better! Grace soon discovers Maude was murdered too. She discover that people all lie and some lie to her face. Maude had 4 suspects all close friends since childhood. This case was super easy to solve but the character goes round and round with the same suapects. In this book she truly learns that this sleuthing job can be very dangerous. I did enjoy getting to know more characters about town. I recommend this book!
This is the third book in the Midlife Medicine series by Amorette Anderson.
Grace Littleton is back and taking on her hardest case yet. It is the only case that the older sleuth who had the job before her, Maude, couldn’t solve.
She has also been doing some reading and what she learns really helps her at the climax of the story. I am so enjoying this series. The main character is right around my own age and she is learning all sorts of new things along the way. It is all we can ask for in life, right? Totally resonating with this series.
This is quite an unputdownable book. Dig into this series for yourself. You won’t be disappointed. This is a magical type cozy mystery that features a midlife main character.
Broken Bones and Botany Amorette Anderson ARC REVIEW Who killed Brody? Grace comes upon a short list of suspects in a Cold Case in the town. She and Lucky begin to investigate, with the entire towns help. As they do, light is shed on more suspects. Can they solve this old Cold Case?
What a fun and great story! Grace is learning more about herself and takes on a cold case. Having to decipher between lies and learn who to trust, Grace and Lucky embark on journey of lies, sadness, and unsolved murders.
Another well written and light hearted comedy cozy from this author. My husband was trying to sleep and I kept laughing. I just love Grace's character along with her adorable familiar. You add in the quirky characters throughout the story and it was just a fun, but touching story that both warms your heart as you try to be silent with your giggles. This storyline brings a cold case to the forefront which keeps your mind active trying to figure out whodunit? Each chapter adds another dimension to the story and I honestly had not figured out who it was before it was revealed. I was pleasantly surprised with the final chapters and was happy to see more romance developing for Ben and Grace.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review. VICKI FROM WYOMING
Grace is finally coming into her own person and her sleuthing job to solve any crimes committed in her magical community!
She has been attempting to see if she does in fact possess magical talents of being a witch but is sidetracked when the only case never solved by her predecessor intrigued her so she starts looking into it. She finds out that there was yet another one and she is about to become victim number three!
I recommend this cozy mystery to readers old and young who enjoy clean cozies but also want to try their hand at solving the whodunnit before it is revealed.
I have enjoyed every book I’ve read by Amorette for they all revolve around normal everyday people who are intrigued by the idea of being a witch or just being a good person in helping out. Those of the former do become witches and the later are rewarded in ways they ever considered at the time.
I urge those of you who haven’t yet read a book by Amorette to pick up the first book in a series and prepare to be entertained for the foreseeable future for once you get into the book you are going to want to continue the series to its conclusion! They are fun and entertaining and there are things you read that will help you become a better person by applying those concepts!
The previous series and books were probably geared towards the younger adult readers though older readers appreciated them just as much; but this series older adults may enjoy more because the characters are older and thus easier to relate to. I thought how it would be if I lived there where magic was all around me-what would I think and would I think I might have it within me to try and let it out? Grace ponders this and you need to read this book to find out the answer!
With the conclusion of this book, this series is going to be much more interesting and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!
In the first book in this series Grace Littleton, RN, responded to an ad to be an RN in the medical clinic in Covenstead, VT. She soon discovers that this town is a little different than any one she has ever lived in. There is a lot of magic used in this town. Dr. Hamilton uses magic to heal patients in the clinic. He tells Grace that she will find her own magic in time. Grace loves the little cabin on the lake that her and Lucky live in. She loves snuggling with Lucky and reading the mystery books left behind by her predecessor, Maude. Grace has also been told that she is now the town sleuth. As she reads the books she notices a lot of notes written in them by Maude. They always include the same names -- Chet, Steve, Danny and Buzz. When Grace asks Doc Ham what they mean he explains to her that they involve a cold case from five years ago that Maude never could solve -- the death of Brody Brockman. She also finds out that Maude falsely accused Buzz of the murder. Buzz went through the rehabilitation ceremony and wasn't the same for a long time leaving his wife Ruth to do all the work on the family farm. This is the third book in the series. It is a wonderful series with great characters you soon want to meet and become friends with them.Amorette keeps you guessing until the end to find the real killer of Brody and also Grace also finds out that Maude was killed as well. This book is a must read. I highly recommend it. I received an advance copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Amorette has done it again! Grace the town nurse and appointed town sleuth. Grace has found reading detective stories and mysteries as a way to improve her sleuthing skills – also as a way to put her to sleep! As Grace reads she keeps finding a list of names written in the margins of her books; books she finds in her home; books that were owned by her predecessor Maude. What does this mean? She decides to take this little mystery to Doc Ham.
What can I say about this story? Grace is learning much about herself. She is learning that she really is a good investigator – skills she learned while nursing. Yes, many times she had cases where she needed to dig a little to uncover just what is causing the symptoms. She is more accepting of the magic around her but she questions whether she herself will ever have that gift. She and lucky are now able to speak with each other without words! And perhaps her relationship with the local has warmed up a notch or two. While this is a mystery that uncovers a murderer or two. It is also a story that shows how love can change people. And you know what else – just like the movies, books with the help of authors such an Amorette Anderson, are beginning to see older women as heroines
Are you wondering if this can be read as a stand alone book? Yes you can Amorette brings you right up to date in the first few chapters. I trad book 5 first; and it was great; but once you have done that, you WILL want to read the other stories in this series
BROKEN BONES AND BOTANY by Amorette Anderson is a witchy cozy mystery and the third installment in the Midlife Medicine series. Ms. Anderson has knack for creating strange little towns with quirky characters and fun murder mysteries. Get ready for some fun and a medical clinic whose patients seem to magically heal practically overnight.
Grace is still getting accustomed to her new rustic home and rural town life with her dog Lucky. Her main job is RN in the local medical clinic. Oh, and that job includes being the resident investigator for unexplained deaths.
When Grace hears about a murder that her predecessor was never able to solve, her competitive nature kicks in - maybe she could solve it. The biggest problem it's a cold case, too many suspects, people's memories aren't that fresh. This case won't be easy.
Miss Anderson's stories always have those words of wisdom in them, such as: We can accept that others are capable of wondrous things -- but we have a harder time seeing our own inner powers and magnificence.
I did receive an advance readers copy from the author and the above is my freely given and honest review.

Another interesting and unique mystery in this series. Grace is learning more about her "job" as the community's detective and even more about her developing witchy skills. I enjoyed the book and jumped right into the next one!

I love this series about a traveling nurse who finds herself in the magical town of Covenstead, Vermont after mysteriously finding a job advertisement that literally fell from the sky. Grace Littleton is settling into her new hometown and new job. Discovering that she is magical has been a surprise, but she is finding her footing as the new town detective. Discovering that her gift of quiet observation is serving her well when mysterious events in town occur. When she hears of a cold case involving the death of a local man that has never been solved, she is intrigued. After five years with no success, will Grace’s new investigation find the real killer, or will she be the next victim? This is one of the best series I have read, and I read a lot. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
This one was a nail biter Grace is persistent. Her pitbull familiar Lucky is protective and sweet. The story is full of great characters. The quaint village of Covenstead sounds wonderful. They have some interesting people and fun festivals. Grace is really starting to fit in well. She has made some great friends and is learning so much. She is developing into the detective that they needed. There were a lot of twists and turns to get to the killer this time. It was an exciting ride. I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.
I recommend this book to those that enjoy a cozy paranormal mystery with a happy ending. I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary, honest, and completely personal review.
I have read every book that Anderson ever released, and I have loved every single one. But this one might just be my favorite. Maybe it’s because I fell in love with the characters; they are so likeable and relatable. Maybe it’s because this cold case made me feel warm. Maybe it’s because I love this new trend of slightly older main characters and Grace just strikes a chord with me. Maybe it’s because the fun writing style allows me to completely and fully escape. Maybe it’s just everything, the mystery, the characters, the setting, the magic. But I definitely loved it from start to finish! A lighthearted read that I would recommend to every paracozy lover!
Amorette has outdone herself again. Book 3 of this series is out of this world. It had me glued from page to the last page. Grace comes across these names in these old books that Maude left behind, and so she decides to look into why. She soon discovers that it is from a cold case from a murder case which leads into another cold case which leads into Maude's murder. This book is well written, the plot has a good flow, the characters are great, my favorite characters are still Grace and Lucky, her familiar, and if you want to to know how the story ends I would highly recommend you get the book, it is well worth it. Thank you.
Read books in order. This was a very cold case. Brody was murdered by a cast iron skillet, who had motive? Grace is the R.N. who has taken the previous R.N. Detective place. Trying to learn as she goes, she never knew she was a witch either. I loved how it was dredged up, many wanted it to be left alone, many unanswered question. Grace is also learning to work on her “New Magical skill” as well as learning to be a Detective for the town. No pressure right? Lots of twist and turns, deliberate false leads , as well as misinformation ,gossip. Also check out the Hillcrest Witches Mysteries, you will love these too!
Who killed Brody? This is a cold case, and Grace finds herself wondering if the former nurse/detective Meg was sending her messages from the list of people she obsessively wrote in the margins of her mysteries left behind in the cabin. Can Grace and Lucky and the rest of Covenstead settle this once and for all? You'll just have to read it and find out.
Amorette Anderson gives us another in the "women's paranormal fiction genre" and I say make room because this series can stand with the best of the bunch! Can hardly wait for #4. Highly Recommended 5/5
As the town sleuth, Grace is required to investigate and solve any town mysteries or murders. Whilst reading a book, she found that a murder occurred in the town about five years previous and had never been solved. She decided to give it ago in solving this mystery, as the murderer was probably still in the town. Memories are not always what they should be after this length of time, but she persisted in her quest. Clues came in various ways, but she did manage to find the culprit eventually. At the same time, something happened that showed that she actually did belong in this town.
Grace is still trying to successfully work magic, but she is enjoying her new home in Covenstead. When an old cold case comes up, Grace decides to investigate.
In this book we meet a slew of new characters, as Grace interviews her neighbors and enjoys some winter festivities. Looking for a killer is never easy, but it's even harder in a small town where everyone knows one another.
I completely enjoyed this story and really appreciate the conversations between Grace and her pitbull, Lucky.
I am a ARC member and am lucky enough to be one of the first who gets to read Ms. Anderson's books. Once again she has hit the mark with a entertaining, fun, witty, captivating plot. Watching Grace grow into a detective and a witch is so fun and wish it was me! Taking on a cold case that was left behind by her predecessor, and the surprising ending kept me intrigued from start to finish. I truly am enjoying this series and watching Ms. Anderson grow as a author also.
Third book in the Midlife Medicine series. I loved it! Grace is facing a new kind of challenge, a cold case. Following her predecessor's clues, she must figure out who killed one of the poker players 5 years ago. At the same time, she must find her own magic... The book is well written, the characters are interresting and the story is really good.
I received this book as part of an ARC team and this is my honest review.
A truly magical tale of sorrow, deceit, murder and love. A mystery five years needing to be solved and Amorette Anderson tells the tale with grace and flare as only this magically talented writer can. Step by step the new lady in town delves into the past in hope of healing and giving it's town's people closure and peace in return for all the have given her.Acquire " Broken Bones and Botany "so that you yourself can enjoy it's magical beauty as much as I have. 😏🙂Kat
Grace is settling in nicely at her new home in an enchanting Vermont town. She works as a nurse but is also responsible for investigating crimes that take place in this small town. This time she is investigating a murder that took place several years before she moved to Covenstead. And it may turn out to be more then one murder. This series is filled with interesting and mature characters and a great setting. Looking forward to the next book!
Grace is really coming into herself as the town sleuth, but she's still a little uncertain about her magickal abilities. An interesting book she comes across in the Black Crown Bakery and Bookstore, along with encouragement from her beau, her boss, and her familiar, Lucky, as well as her neighbors and friends, give her the breakthrough she needs to save herself from certain death is this 3rd book of Amorette Anderson's Midlife Medicine series.
In her new position as nurse in a town full of magic and witches, Grace is given the job as town sleuth to follow up a five year old murder. Grace has trouble with magic - she just can't seem to get things right. A great follow up story to the first story of Grace and her familiar the beloved dog Lucky. Enjoyed this story too and look forward to the next adventure.
What a wonderful and fun book to add to the series. Grace and Ben, along with their familiars, are becoming some of my favorite characters. I cant't wait to see where these books will go next. If you like lovable characters and paranormal cozy mysteries, you will love this series as much as I do. Start with the first book but you can read them as standalones.
