A Jar of Pebbles : Stories from the Heart

Rate this book
ABOUT BOOK A Jar of Pebbles celebrates the ordinary, the absurd, and the exceptional. In these days and times, when pandemic-induced lockdowns have forced social distancing, this collection talks of the warmth and learning of human connections. Memories of growing up in a small town in the 80s and 90s predating the social media, and lessons from parents who never used a manual then, are tenderly captured for posterity. Simple snippets of human effort, and kindness are narrated with empathy and humour. The anecdotes speak to the generation that did not have the Internet as well as to the generation that cannot live without it. The language is simple, straight from the heart, and not a claim to the grandiose. It is a soulful read in this busy world we live in today to inspire hope, share a laugh, and possibly pass on a bit of learning.

"Life is like a Marie biscuit. Sometimes you get to dunk it in hot tea and take a bite. Sometimes the tea goes cold and it feels strange and bad. And sometimes it feels so good when you eat it just like that and then it's over in no time."
.
A handful of stories which takes you to a nostalgic ride. The stories are from the author's life but it is so relatable to everyone's life. Ranging from the childhood kite flying to the super womens in life.from the report cards to the first day first show obsession. So many relatable memories. These short stories leaves some food for thought. I really loved the writeup about the superwomen we encounter in our life thery never comes to the limelight they work silently for a better tomorrow.

"Sometimes, the simplest of things seem to hover and become a necessary mindset for us, imparting colloquial yet worthwhile wisdom to cherish for keeps…"

So tell me such a title folks which has been simplistic yet relevantly familiar tugging at the deepest strands of your soul, making you relive the beauties of everyday living??

For me, this was a title of defining incredulity in its truest terms. A nostalgia full of innocent yearning, this one promises to tickle the sore buds of your heart strings giving it that “heal” and that “oh I can feel this one truly” kinda feel. An assortment of simple yet soul stirring tales that come straight from the writer’s schamltzy experiences over the course of his trysts with life.

An entrepreneur by profession, this gentleman uses the time in between to create such insightful, indulging pieces of writing. A bollywood fan, his love for the silver screen comes across as not only entertaining but also gives a freshness to his writing as that reflects the same. A coming of age write up, imcorporating anecdotes from across different points of time, this one portrays the whole time and generation jump and the changes aka growing pains we have experienced but with a thoughtful musing.

Remember, how we tend to connect with fuss free, uncomplicated stuff better than the whimsical ones?

This title is exactly that. ‘A Jar of Pebbles‘.

A light, fuss free yet introspective and insightful read. Making you experience happiness, sadness, peals of laughter, depair, hope and countless emotions at the same time. It is the writer’s debut work and I believe he has absolutely hit this one out of the park! Because a successful book and work is simply not only about flawless writing or strong content, rather also about being able to get that emotional connect right with your target audiences. This title manages to do that with its simplistic yet innocently subtle yet endearing, warm metaphoric stories.

Indeed, the life changing, defining facets of life are not only challenges and difficult scenarios rather also the little incidents that transpire in the daily course of living. They may seem irrelevant at that point of time but they surely have a cataclysmic, life altering impact on our personalities.

Take for instance, his candid rendezvous on “What is the meaning of life?”
The different vantages put across for different people at the same point of time hit silently yet hard, making us pause and think “what really is life from MY OWN personal perspective?

The writing is beautiful, the flow relatable and the writer has taken care to keep it simple, engaging yet a fun read.

A superb creative indeed in finding happiness in the ordinary.

Like Dumbledore said, "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, only if one remembers to turn on the light.."

This work is indeed, that little beacon of hope and light.

Well done!

"Sometimes fear of getting scratched or scratching someone pulls us back"

'A Jar of Pebbles' is an anthology which celebrates the spirit of ordinary in extraordinary ways. Pebbles represent the anecdotes and the jar personifies life itself. Pebbles can also be a reference to milestones in life.

"I have always been a dreamer and I kept on dreaming about writing"

Each short story starts when the narrator's mind pulls bits of nostalgia whilst engaging in day to day activities. Popular games of the 80s and 90s such as Gilli Danda, Kite Flying and Marbles, all find a mention.

"From then on, with a string of scholarships, grit, determination and brilliance, she rode her way to the top of the corporate world"

I really liked the analogy of 'Swarg Rath' which was used to describe an ambulance. The short stories that stood out for me were- 'It's a Woman's World' where women from all walks of life were celebrated and 'An Enigma Called Life' where the narrator comes to a satisfactory conclusion about the meaning of life.

It was interesting to view life from the perspective of 80s especially during times like these. Personally, I couldn't find humour in some things that were supposed to be funny.

A Jar of Pebbles is a collection of short stories that the author has written from his own experiences.

This small book is a joy giver, a book of morals and everything one has to say about life. The stories are quite short. Anyone can prefer to read them in their leisure time or at times when you want to glance about life.
I loved the easiness of this book. It was lucid and beautiful at the same time. It is a comfort read.My favourite short story was the one about the daughters.

You can always take a cup of coffee or tea and ponder about life and I will tell you to take this book along then. You will ponder about differently.

This book is a slice of life everyone will resonate to. Written in the form of anecdotes from the author's own life, this book connected to me at so many levels. This book made me realise that there is so much to learn from the mundane everyday routine if we become a little mindful.

Each chapter was short, fun to read and gave some food for thought. Some of them brought a smile on my face, some made me nostalgic and some were thought provoking.

A perfect book to get out of reading slump and absolutely recommended for everyone.

Just as the tagline, these are indeed the stories from the heart. The author has written them based on his experiences, but are relatable to all of us. They make you nostalgic and emotional, take back to your sweet and rough memories and reflect positivity.

All the stories are soothing and refreshing with smooth narration. However, I felt the language could have been better. The cover is so beautiful with a meaningful title. Overall, it is a feel-good book that anyone can give a try, especially if you are in a reading slump, it would be a perfect solace.

Trip down the memory lane

It is a collection of warm memories penned down by #krishnamohantata . He calls it 'A Jar of Pebbles'. But I have to say he filled it with precious jewels in place of Pebbles.

I have immensely enjoyed reading those snippets from author's experiences which took me on a nostalgic journey down the memory lane. Some of the stories I could relate to, some made me feel all warm inside, some I found boring. Such was the life in 80s and 90s in India and may be everywhere.
