From USA Today bestselling author Dakota Davies comes all new standalone enemies to lovers romance with dark family secrets and sizzling heat!
One night changed us forever.
For one night, we shared our wildest fantasies, our dirtiest desires. Even though it was the best night of my life, I knew I needed to let her go.
Three months later, she walks into my office looking just as tempting as ever. The problem? She’s here to steal my promotion, the same one that will make all of my sacrifices mean something.
Turns out all that heat between us makes us impossible work mates. Half the time, I can’t decide whether to fight with her or bend her over my desk.
But when the verdict falls, I’m faced with an impossible choice: fight for my dream, or surrender to my heart.

Going into this book, I was excited. The first book and the prequel for the series were fantastic. The epilogue for Falling for My Fling set the stage for this book with chemistry crackling before the gates even opened. Then, Dakota Davies goes and promises:
✔ a scandalous family secret ✔ office fights that end in kisses ✔ a fierce rivalry that keeps them apart ✔ more sparks than 4th of July
Did she deliver? Oh, heck yeah. I love the banter between Wyatt and Brooke - whether playful, heated, or serious. It is phenomenal and leads to some interesting moments.
I didn't want to put this down once I got a few chapters into it (exhaustion and life responsibilities were what required me to put it down at all). It's funny, poignant, and delightfully steamy.
That secret...? It comes with trigger warnings. It's a doozy so be sure to prepare yourself. You'll likely see it coming but it'll still hit like a ton or two of bricks.
Another quick warning. Don't be surprised if you mist up a time or two like I did. The desire for a cathartic release is strong.
This can be read as a standalone. There are frequent references to Caleb and Lori's story, as well as some cameos, but there's also a very succinct recap early on. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wyatt gave up his dreams to take care of his family. His family was falling apart. Brook swept through town three months ago and they had a heated one night stand. Now she’s standing in his office and they’re expected to work together. They are both up for the same promotion. Can they trust each other? The characters all have great chemistry. Wyatt has a great crazy family. This great romance is second in a series but can easily be read as a standalone. Can’t wait for the next one.

This second book in the series tells the story of Wyatt and Brooke. Their one-night stand turned into a rivalry which turned into so much more when they learned to trust one another! This was such a sweet, romantic, and steamy at times story-just what I expect from Dakota Davies! This is a standalone story, but there are characters that we see again from the first book and events that are still unfolding and being revealed that set the stage for the next book. I loved this story and can’t wait to see who we will read about next! I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I enjoyed this story! Wyatt and Brooke's road was not an easy one and it's filled with conflicts, chemistry, suspense and hope. It's an easy read that will keep you entertained until the end! I was sent a copy and I am choosing to leave my voluntary review.
Book 2 of the Falling Hard series takes us back to Penny Creek and the Morgan family. This time it is Wyatt who sacrificed his dreams to care for his siblings and now has his sights set on a job in LA. Enter Brooke, a girl he had a fling with and hasn't been able to forget. Her presence threatens his dream job in more ways than one. Add in a hot news story which threatens the welfare of some close to Wyatt, and he finds himself conflicted. Another great story from Dakota Davies, her characterisation is spot on. Wyatt is different to his brother Caleb just enough to make them distinct. There is a sweet overlap with the first story and promising hints for future tales without the reader feeling that they ought to have read book 1 (but do so anyway!)
Wyatt gave up a lot in his life for his family but now was his chance to chase his dreams. He was finally where he wanted to be in his life when Brooke walks back into it. Wyatt and Brooke had a fling awhile back and now they are both up for the same job. Sparks reignite between them but they both fight their attraction. Will they lose the connection they have? Will a job come between them?
This is a great story that will hook you in the first chapter and leave you wanting more with the last one. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I just loved this book, the author is getting better and better and holds your interest from the first to the last page …….. and then interested in continuing to find out what happens in the next book from Penny Creek. Wyatt, Caleb’s older brother (from the last book) gave up a lot after their father died to keep the family together and look after his younger siblings. Nearing the time when he can relinquish his guardianship role and concentrate on what he really wants for a change he is knocked sideways when Brooke, a fling from three months ago appears and threatens not only his present job role, but his dream job also. Wyatt and Brooke experience a wide range of emotions, and are involved in several other sub plots running at the same time, making this a book well worth reading. Really looking forward to the next in the series.
I loved every minute of Wyatt and Brooke’s story. The rivalry, the lust, trying to resist one another while not wanting to. Then the secret that Wyatt has kept for ages revealed so much and answered a question that I had wondered about. Now I am excited that Annika is next in line in this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Overall I liked this book. Wyatt and Brooke had a one night stand. Now months later she is sent to help the newspaper. This complicates things. Especially, when a story brings some terrible truths to light. Luckily everything works out and in the end they get their happy ending.
Dakota Davies has done it again with another great story in the Falling Hard series. This is the story of Wyatt (Caleb’s older brother) and Brooke. Wyatt gave up a lot to raise his younger brothers and sisters after his dad died and his Mom just kind of gave up on life. He works at the local newspaper and has done nothing for his happiness, as he was always putting the family first. Once the twins graduate, he is hoping to land a job at the LA Times. Brooke is also a journalist and is determined to get the opening at the LA Times. She is not about to let some man take away from her what she has worked so hard for. She ends up in Penny Creek working at the newspaper with Wyatt. However, this is not their first encounter with each other! They had one amazing night together and I don’t think either one forgot about it.
This story had my emotions all over the place – especially during a story Wyatt and Brooke were working on that hits a little closer to the Morgan family than they expect. This story is intense, deep, emotional, powerful, and steamy! This is a story about a family coming together during some of the most difficult times, people figuring out what really makes them happy, trusting, loyalty and facing their fears. Great story, and amazing characters. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the first book I've read by the author. And it will definitely not my last. It was a good story. I read it in one sitting only. The chemistry is off-the-charts. The banter is on point. The storyline is intriguing. I look forward to the next story in this series.
As soon as she walks through his door the game is on
Falling for My Rival is the second book in the Falling Hard series and is the story of Brooke and Wyatt. They meet on a Saturday night in Penny Ridge at the end of the summer season. In July they shared a night of toe curling, fireworks explosive sex and then went their separate ways, never expecting to see each other again. And she never told him her name. Wyatt is Caleb and Annika's older brother and he works for the Mountain Gazette newspaper. He has plans to get out of town in five months and move to Los Angeles to work for the L.A. Times. But things are about to change sooner than he wanted, whether he likes it or not. The paper has been bought by Jensen and Thorne Media and the first change is about to arrive on his doorstep in the form of a new reporter being sent from their Denver office. Brooke Henderson finds herself back in Penny Ridge at the end of the summer season to work at the Gazette until the end of the year to either save it or move it to on-line only. Brooke had come to Penny Creek first to scope out the Mountain Gazette and gather information for Mr. Freeman to help him decide whether to buy the local paper or not. While she was there she met Wyatt, a very sexy journalist, but never told him her name or reason for being there. Now as she walks through his door at the paper the explosives go off again, in a different way. So let the game begin between them as they spar and fight over everything they can. But will they be able to keep it only to the office or will all that tension and fighting finally find them between the sheets once again, or maybe over the desk?
This is a wonderfully written and very entertaining story. I loved that the characters of the town and family are interwoven in this story even as it centers on Wyatt and Brooke. Wyatt is the big brother you want, as when their mother split he raised the three younger siblings. Now that everyone is doing well he wants to follow his own dream. Brooke is a go-getter who is intelligent, quick, witty and can spar with Wyatt all day long, and then right through the night. I really loved this book.
Mind not just blown by this fantastic read, it totally obliterated my heart and put it back together
Falling For My Rival (Falling Hard Series Book 2 - The Morgan Family Saga) by Dakota Davies is one amazing read. I wasn’t sure how this author would top the prequel and book 1, but she did and did it so wonderfully well. This second book has so much going for it that I was hard pressed to put it down. I just wanted to languish in every word, thought and feeling Wyatt and Brooke’s romantic journey evoked. I really love this author’s work, but this book is probably her best so far. Every plot/subplot is deep, emotional, suspenseful and tense. The dynamic between Brooke and Wyatt, their building tension and emotional connection, snaps and explodes creating a love story that is fraught with anxious wonder. Falling For My Rival is no simple romance, the characters are consistently and deeply embroiled with complex thoughts, feelings, decisions, circumstances and past events which is really only the tip of the iceberg. The Morgan Family is sweet, quirky, loving, but dealing with a family dynamic that creates some conflicting thoughts and feelings within Wyatt especially. Wyatt and Brooke’s personal and professional lives collide and implode, provoking all the feels and making me fall for this book couple even harder. Falling Harder series indeed! Overall, truly a 5+ star read with a fantastic couple to make this book engaging, intriguing, entertaining and a bumpy road worth traveling to their well earned and much deserved HEA. The best part about the end of this book, besides the HEA, is knowing there’s more of the Morgan Family on the way and it’s gonna be an awesome ride all the way. I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.
I totally emo’d out on this book. Wyatt is the Patron Saint of Sacrifice. He’s given up everything for his family and he’s done one hell of a job raising his twin sisters Vonn and Leah. Then there’s Brooke, his one night stand from months ago who saunters into his office, sent by the PTB who’ve just purchased the newspaper he works for. She’s come to their mountain range in Idaho and brought with her the memories of their night of endless passion where they didn’t even exchange names. These two are both strong personalities, they want to dance but no one knows who’s going to lead. Work is complicated because the boss is making them work together. Then there’s a job in LA that they find that they’re both vying for. A cold case from the past comes back to life and hits close to home in more ways than one for Wyatt, and somewhere along the way he and Brooke have fallen deep. Brooke refuses to allow a man to come between her and her dreams of being a big time reporter again, but do dreams change? Plus, no man can do the things that Wyatt does to her body!! There’s so much going on here, but the flow of the book is perfect. The action isn’t a filler, but necessary to get the story in its entirety. I really enjoyed this book and was grateful I had my tissue nearby. A highly recommended read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
A small town romance between local Wyatt Morgan who gave up his Olympic dreams to take responsibility for three of his younger siblings and Brook Henderson the reporter sent to town on a temporary assignment. Three months ago these two had a sizzling one night stand without sharing names, now they are trying to keep things professional despite a strong attraction still simmering between them.
Wyatt finds himself juggling parenting his 17 year old twin sisters who both suddenly are having issues at school, a building attraction to Brooke and the discovery they are rivals for the same position at the LA Times. Wyatt struggles with whether he can trust Brooke not to sabotage his stories while at the same time keeping a friend’s secret that impacts a high profile story they are both assigned.
I enjoyed this book due to the strong family dynamics of the Morgan siblings and a storyline with nuanced layers beyond romance. The slightly suspenseful nature of Wyatt and Brooke’s news stories is more than window dressing as they touch the lives of Wyatt’s loved ones. The working and romantic relationship between Wyatt and Brooke is tightly woven with a mix of sexual tension and rivalry.
I received an ARC from Hidden Gems and the author, and I am voluntarily leaving a review. The next book in this series sounds appealing.
Wyatt has been the father of his sisters since his father died and his mother left them, giving up his dreams of competing in the Olympics, even so that the rest of his siblings could continue with their lives. In addition to coaching the swim team, helping with the family business, he writes for the Mountain Gazette, although he hopes that in the next few months he will receive a offer for L.A. But then Brooke arrives. The 2 met months before when she arrived in town and had a night of passion together before she disappeared, but she has returned to help refloat the Gazette. The both aspire to the same job in L.A. and although that makes them rivals, they do very well working together. They end up finding a story that will end up being very important to them both personally and professionally, especially for Wyatt. Brooke will see herself again in the same position she was 1 year ago, deciding to follow her dream or give it up for a man, and although the first time it turned out to be a disaster, Wyatt is willing to sacrifice himself again for someone he loves. A romantic story, very 🔥 and very sweet.I ❤️ seeing Wyatt with the twins. And the sexual tension between Wyatt and Brooke is off the charts.
I can’t get enough of this series! All of Dakota’s books just suck you in and I was so excited for this. Wyatt and Brooke’s story was simple and exciting. They came together on a memorable night over the summer and now Brooke is back in town stirring up Wyatt’s life and his feelings. They have to work together for the town newspaper on some serious stories that rock the town but also brings to light some life changing information for the Morgan family. As Brooke and Wyatt uncover stories, they learn each other’s dreams and ambitions, and they discover what they really want and what really matters.
I absolutely loved the Morgan family dynamic from the first book and it’s prequel and I love it so much more after this book. I really enjoyed the journalist aspect of this book and the investigative work that Brooke and Wyatt were doing. It was kind of thrilling to see the stories being uncovered and all the pieces that it took for the truth to come out. This story had everything, awesome family dynamics, great chemistry, a steamy romance, a sweet glimpse into the lives of previous characters and just an overall great vibe to the story. Really great writing from Dakota. Easily recommend!
I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
Dakota Davis is a new author to me but after reading Falling for My Rival (Falling Hard Book 2) that’s going to change because after getting to know Wyatt and Brooke I need more from this talented author. It was only meant to be one night but that night soon turned in to a story that full of rivalry, suspense and so much more. This book can certainly be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone but I’m sure like me it will leave you wanting more. Brooke arrived in town three months ago and now she has come face to face with Wyatt the man she had one seriously hot night with only now they are expected to work together because they are both up for the same job promotion. So will working together break or make them, will the chemistry they share soar or will it fizzle out as they both strive for promotion. This is a book that will appeal to a wide range of audiences, it’s sweet, it’s romantic, it has the perfect mix of passion and suspense and once you add in the wonderful characters you get a wonderful read. Looking forward to what’s coming next in this series as well as trying the time to read book one.
You know what they say about that fine line between love and hate. The secret I’m keeping from her is burning a hole inside my chest, but it's not my story to tell. Wow, a well-written story that will have you in tears. There is a little suspense thrown in, with a lot of romance.
Wyatt will be working for the L.A. Times come spring. Finally starting his life. At least that’s the plan, since their paper was bought by Jensen and Thorne Media. But now, the brunette I spent nearly twenty-four hours devouring last July is standing in my office. What is my one-night stand doing in my office, threatening to claim it?
Brooke never thought she'd return to Penny Creek. But she's been sent there to rescue the Gazette. Seeing him again was harder than I thought. Our one night was months ago. She needs to remember her purpose, which is to overdeliver for Mr. Freeman so he can recommend me for the job opening at the L.A. Times this spring. But how am I going to resist him for the next three months?
I love how Davies strings the books of her series together! She doesn't just have the same characters, but continues stories, relationships, and plots throughout all of the books. It was great to see a wrap up of the wolf storyline, a new plot develop, and some new information that I am sure is going to come up in future books in this series! As for this specific story, I love Wyatt! Who wouldn't fall for a guy willing to give up his dreams for his younger siblings? Then there is Brooke. She has been burned before, so it's difficult for her to trust that Wyatt is a good person, but she works through it and it was so amazing to watch her grow and really let go of that hurt. Together they are an unstoppable team. My only critique is I felt like it took a little too long for the story to start, and there was a lot of internal angst that I found myself saying "I KNOW" to at the beginning. But once the story took off, I was in love. I cannot wait for the next book!!! I received a free copy of this book. This is an honest review.
This is the second book of the series, the story of Wyatt and Brooke. They met in the first book of the series and had a one night stand. Brooke came back to town with an special assignment to save The Gazette. If she is able to make the news more interesting and increase the subscriptions, she would get her dream job in Los Angeles. The only thing is that the attraction for Wyatt is undeniable even though she tries to deny it and she realized that Wyatt is waiting for her twin sisters to graduate from high school to pursue his dream: the same job she is pursuing in Los Angeles. The connection between Wyatt and Brooke is explosive and put both in continues disagreements. But everything is valid in love and war and they are absolutely in love. A lot of mysteries began to arise related to the Morgan family and Brooke is there to discover the truth. Excellent book! Loved the characters and the development of the plot. Can't wait to read the next book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wyatt could not believe his eyes when he realized that his new colleague is the woman he hooked up with a few months ago. Brooke expected to see him but was stunned by the memory of the chemistry they shared which was just as strong even with time passed. But she has a job to do and she needed to do it well enough to earn her dream job in LA. From the go the crazy attraction they felt at their first meeting was just as strong and getting stronger by the day. But she especially needed to keep the relationship professional even if it robs her of her sanity. Easier said than done especially as she gets to know him better and saw the caring man who was key in his younger sisters' upbringing and she learns of the sacrifices he made in stepping up to take care of them. This is a story of learning to let yourself fall in love, of learning that dreams change along the way, not in any way making them less important. I loved their story and cannot wait for the next book in the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the second book in the Falling Hard Series but is read as a standalone. If you read the first book you'll recognize some of the characters like Wyatt's brother Caleb. If you like small town love stories you'll love this enemy to lovers romance. This is Wyatt and Brooke's story. Wyatt is the Morgan boy who put his dreams aside to help care for his siblings. Wyatt and Brooke had a passionate night together and parted ways. She was the one woman who haunted his dreams. Fate brings them together in LA where they are rivals for the same job. Interesting how this plays out. Who gets the job? Do they learn to trust each other? Do they put their differences aside and learn to follow their hearts? This was a great book that was beautifully written. The characters were strong and likable. The story line will keep you entertained and guessing. I read an arc via the author and voluntarily chose to write a review.
Falling for My Rival is the second book in Dakota Davies’ Falling Hard series. It is an enemies to lovers’ romance. Wyatt Morgan has spent the last six years raising his siblings due to his father’s death and his mother’s breakdown. He is finally going for his dream job at the LA Times. Brooke Henderson came to town six months ago to report on the area for her boss. One night of passion with no names exchange comes back to haunt her when she returns to town once again. This trip to town has her in a position to work closely with her one night stand, Wyatt Morgan. They are both hoping for the same LA Times job opening. Unforeseen circumstances have Brooke and Wyatt working closer than either of them expected. Can they have a steady work relationship? Will their passion be more than a one night stand?
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review.
It was okay. Wyatt and Brooke are very similar. They both have sacrifice for the ones they love. Wyatt gave up his Olympic dreams to be there for his younger siblings after their father died and their mother needed medical assistance. Brooke set her career goals aside to follow her fiancé whose job moved him to Denver. Now Brooke has a chance to get her career back on track by helping restructure the newspaper Wyatt works for. Wyatt and Brooke had meet before and had a one night stand. They are both still really attracted to each other but they had try to push their feelings aside as they both fight for the same reporter position with the LA Times. Wyatt and Brooke are thrown together to work on a story and their feelings will not subside and before they know it they are in love with each other.
It is a good story. You will like both Wyatt and Brooke.
Oh my gosh, this is the first book I’ve read by Dakota Davies and it certainly will not be my last! Wyatt and Brooke have a fantastic story line, filled with emotion, witty banter, passion, pride, and a whole lot of steamy love. Wyatt and Brooke have both given up amazing opportunities for various reasons: Wyatt to raise his younger sisters due to a family tragedy and Brooke due to a past relationship. There were some surprisingly deep and somewhat dark story lines as both Brooke and Wyatt are investigative journalists, but the author handled those topics delicately and respectfully. I’m intentionally being vague though to avoid any spoilers, but I will say that this story sucked me pretty immediately and after each interaction I found myself cheering on each and every character. I would certainly recommend picking this book up if you’re looking for an engaging, romantic read with a lot of chemistry and some steam!
I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy but my opinion is my own. Falling for my Rival is the second book in the Falling Hard series by Dakota Davies. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters 🥰Wyatt gave up a lot including his Olympic dreams to take care of his younger sisters after his dad passed away and his mom left. He makes himself a home at the local paper as a writer. Once the twins graduate, he is prepared to start living his life again for himself in LA.
Brooke is a writer from Denver who once gave up her dream for her ex-fiance. She is sent to help the struggling paper in Penny Creek. If she is able to help save the paper, she feels sure she will get the spot she craves in LA.
The chemistry between Brooke and Wyatt is off the charts after their first meeting. When they are thrown to together to work to save the ailing paper, things get hotter. Not spoiling no more 😉
Charming romance. This is a delightful story about Brook and Wyatt, two journalists who find themselves rivals for a job in LA. The fact that they have spent a steamy night together 3 months ago anonymously, complicates their working relationship, to say the least. The author did a good job with the storyline, taking the reader through their gradual change of heart towards one another and turning their competitiveness and mistrust into an appreciation of each other's talent, dedication and sacrifice. The novel was very well written, using eloquent language, great metaphors, imaginative scenes and witty dialogues. We see what a great guy Wyatt is and enjoy a HEA, making this book a very enjoyable page-turner with plenty of steam. I liked this book a lot and I am more than happy to recommend it.

This is Wyatt's story! This can be read as a standalone. Wyatt had a hot and steamy anonymous hook up at a conference. When the newspaper is brought out they send a reporter to help with sales, what are the odds it's his hook up and turns out they are both competing for the same job. Even though they should be enemies Wyatt is finding it hard and the chemistry between these two is explosive. This was a page turner not only am I invested in the push and pull between these two, there is also the suspense of the two stories that Wyatt is working on, it did get a bit emotional for me towards the middle when a part of the story Wyatt and Brooke work on hits home. I have enjoyed this series so far and really look forward to the next story.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
Before this I'd only read the prequel to Falling for My Fling which I really enjoyed once I got into it. As some time had passed (and I'd skipped a book) I almost forgot that I'd read about Caleb and Lori before so this really can work as a standalone from that perspective. I found it a little slow to get into, perhaps I wasn't in the mood for drama this week! If you're looking for a quick and easy light read this isn't it. But if you want something with some added drama and family history, plus well thought out characters, this hits the mark.
This was another slightly slow burn but well written read with a lot of extra depth and emotion that I really wasn't expecting.
