On the outside, they're the perfect nuclear family. But appearances can be deceiving...
Ronnie and Minnie were besotted high school sweethearts with big dreams for the future, and their entire lives ahead of them. However, when one romantic evening in the woods ends with the teenagers being the victims of a brutal, gruesome attack, their lives are changed forever. The pair are quickly sucked into a devestating vortex of pain and suffering when they go on the run and fall prey to a high-profile sex trafficker.
Twenty years later, Ronnie and Minnie are thriving as hardened criminals, with four children who each have their own innate hunger for torture and violence. To outsiders, they're the perfect family but, behind closed doors, even their 8-year-old is a bloodthirsty murderer...
Not for the faint of heart, Flesh and Blood tells the explosive, horrific story of the Garnet family, of how they came to be, and of their numerous shocking crime sprees, fuelled by their devestating addiction to hurting others and destroying everything in their path.
I have never heard of this author but love a good gore book. This is not gory compared to others that I have read. The back and forth reading I didn't care for. It took me a time or two of starting over because I really couldn't get into it. It is a good read if you like soft gore. I am glad that Minnie and Ronnie stuck together and made their marriage work and raised their four children to follow in their footsteps during their formative years.
Very well written with great characters that make you want to love the bad guys and really hate the badder ones. Full of unexpected twists and turns. I'm looking for a sequel.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice easy, relaxing read, I really enjoyed the core factor and how smoothly the story is. Would recommend it definitely will go on my shelf as I will probably read it again.
It's not very often you read a horror story that surrounds a family with all very similar, sick motives. This kind of reminded me of 'The strangers' film towards the start, with the whole creepy vibe of a murderous and violent family.
It honestly had a lot less gore or depictions of it than I thought was needed.Although not every story needs gore when being horror, I just feel with the way the characters were, there could've been some more, earlier in the story. I think it would've just emphasised how vile the characters are.
Saying this, it does definitely get dark and more intense after about 50% in. I wouldn't say it's a slow read as such, but for those that are after more action, you have to wait a little longer than you may want to. The story started to drag at around page 180, and although I enjoyed the plot, I just feel that some condensing could've been good.
I enjoy that there are times in the book where you are left rooting for this family, as they're essentially the lesser of evils in the story. It quickly goes away with some clever writing that highlights how mother, Minnie, is manipulating her husband into doing things that he really doesn't want to do.
The ending was quite interesting. Up to the last page or so, it seemed a little confusing. It actually ended up being quite dark and once the lightbulb moment really hits, you get to the very end and realise the sick truth.
Whilst this was a good read mostly, there were times I felt it was just too long. The plot is pretty fun at times, aswell as quite brutal in others, and I'd say it's a good balance of both. Worth the read if you're after a longer, dark horror story.
I loved reading this, the story was gripping with great detail into the how's whys and when's, as the title suggests , not for the faint of heart! I can safely say I wish there was more to read of this family!
