Cassandra Featherstone has channeled her lifelong passion for writing into a flourishing career, a journey that started when she first grasped a pencil as a gifted child with ADHD.
Her debut novel, born during the solitude of COVID lockdown in March 2020, draws on a tapestry of personal encounters and insights that resonate deeply with her readers.
An international bestseller, Cassandra has topped Amazon charts in categories such as LGBT Anthologies, LGBTQ+ Mystery, and Bisexual Romance, among others. Her literary repertoire spans sci-fi fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal, and comedic genres in academy whychoose settings, with a strong commitment to portraying consensual, safe, and accurately depicted BDSM and kink lifestyles. Her books are an invitation to explore transformative stories that are both inclusive and engaging.
Often affectionately called ‘The Muppet’ for her wacky theater kid personality, she resides in the Midwest with her tech-savvy husband, their creatively inclined college student, a literary-minded dog, and four scheming cats.
I received a copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is one of the works in The Riftverse but my first time discovering this series and I flung myself right in. I expected it to take a while to become acquainted with the narrative and while it did; it was a satisfying experience! This is an urban fantasy paranormal ménage reverse harem ( rather a mouthful ) and is not for the weak-hearted. It is an amazingly in-depth novel, Cassandra Featherstone has produced a wholesome new world that rises from the pages.
I was enthralled right from the start, owing to the extensive background detail provided. The family associations and members, plus maps composed of the varied areas, confirms how much the author has invested in the realm that has been established. A detailed story of an intrinsically related “household“, much like a pack, living, loving, developing together. But as more parties become connected, these relations frequently become chaotic and complicated.
“We don’t have to take the eraser to everything that came before to live now.”
The Alpha and The Omega, in parts, becomes an emotional read portraying raw emotions which are symbolic and relatable at times. At the base of it is the notion of struggling to please everybody else that counts and even in some cases, those that don’t, therefore leaving ourselves out of the equation. When that takes place it merely becomes a matter of time before our mental health deteriorates, which in turn influences our cherished ones that surround us. With the combined characteristics of magic and shape-shifting, this is one hefty exploration of the author’s narrative.
This is a long read but certainly worth the time, a shining illustration of love not being smooth, even for supernatural beings. People do things to hurt intentionally but you just have to find the ones that are worth hurting for.
Like the previous two books you have "chapters" of our characters/families are being observed much like lab rats would LOL. Things like their powers, the relationships, pregnancies, mutations… are recorded and interventions done while needed.
The bond between couples always impresses me. Deli, Talia, Rafe, and Taurus are like one massive cuddle doesn't matter mates or husband/wife they are intertwined with a special bond and connection. Even when things are bad or follow apart they would do anything for each other. Like when Deli hides within herself and Taurus pulls her out my talking to her mentally or when Deli and Talia's magick gets all twisted and the males have to swap places to keep everyone safe and bring them back so to say. Or when Maeve breaks moms shield to get help from her dad while still in the womb. The families powers grow as does their bonds together who knows what they can do.
Like all communities everybody's not gonna get along not even in the Multiverse. There's a good size section in volume 2 dedicated to it. There's enough drama and bickering to not only make you chuckle but want to strangle the other group namely the Multiverse misfits LOL. It adds to the dynamic of the group which adds to the dynamic of the book. And if you don't get enough drama it continues afterwards within the family. Which is really understandable when you think about it because of how connected they are with each.
Each of the characters have their own struggle internally and externally. Volume three starts with Taurus alone for more than a week trying to get his head on straight basically. Yes he's out doing a job for the company but that was basically just a means to an end for him. One minute he's talking about how his family has basically made him soft and then the next minute he's talking about how much he misses them. However, this isn't affecting just him Deli had a rough time being away from him coupled with her betrayal towards Talia and Rafe as you biting your fingernails. Well they are as effected by everything going on as well and are dealing with it in their own way. This is just one example of the dynamics of the family.
If you have read the first 2 books you differently must read this one to see how it all works out and how the family and the community get through it.
I was lucky enough to be on the ARC team and my review is based on that.
This book was great, I am getting more and more fond of Taurus, Deli, Talia and Rafe. As always I needed my brain in full capacity because of the drama caused by Sari and Wilde, as well as new characters getting in the picture. Deli's old bonds are still coming between her and her new mates but they always come back to her. The company notes at the end of some chapters are really helpful, I often forgot the number of sides characters and it takes me a minute to remember who it is, but the book is really well written which minutes you can find whose chapter it is easily if you read a couple pages. The company notes are really blog/data looking, with the way the characters look, his potential surnames and pet, his/her mates, family, power and major event. I look forward to book 4 because even though the book was wrapped without a cliffhanger we know something big is coming.
This book was great. Very different it focused heavily on trying to repair the relationships and how the characters are incredibly human and make mistakes. There is clearly something huge coming in the next book and i am hooked and the author accomplished that without a cliffhanger. Good job!!
