Was Jesus a radical Innovator—or a divine Restorer? When Jesus, known to His people as Yeshua, came on the scene in first-century Israel, His hearers weren’t surprised by His message, but by His authority. They didn’t see Him as a revolutionary teacher, but as a reformer of the man-made “commandments” that had been added to the Torah—like all of the prophets who came before Him to correct the Jewish people and draw them back to God. His claims to be the Messiah created a divide among the Jewish people, between those who accepted and those who rejected His divinity. Too many modern Christians believe Jesus came to end Judaism and begin something new, called Christianity. But this misses the point by divorcing Yeshua’s message from its context in the Jewish faith. Rabbi Matt Rosenberg of Restoration in Seattle, Washington, is a leader in the Messianic movement and has a passion for helping Jew and Gentile alike understand the message of Yeshua. As a second-generation Messianic rabbi with a Gentile mother, Matt understands the struggles, questions, and general “messiness” that accompany merging Jewish traditions and Christian customs with the scriptural and historical Yeshua. In this thoughtfully researched and lovingly presented book, Rabbi Rosenberg explains how Jewish and Gentile believers alike will glean deeper understanding from Jesus Never Said Anything New , as Rabbi Rosenberg builds the case for why the Jewishness of Jesus is as relevant for Christians and Jews today as it was two thousand years ago. Discovering Yeshua apart from all of the trappings of Western culture will build your faith and challenge your walk with the unchanging God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!
An excellent book on many issues concerning the separation of Jesus (Yeshua) and his message from the Jewish context it was presented in. Jesus was a reformer not a rebel. He didn't come to start something new but to restore. He came to call people to repentance. We must understand him.and his message within the context it was given. An excellent read with valuable insight.
Rabbi Rosenberg 's work is very enlightening and has contributed to me understanding the Scriptures in a whole new way. In this book, he helps the reader to see Jesus (Yeshua) and His disciples in their context and that He did not say anything new nor did He come to found a new religion. By reading this book, you will come to understand that Jesus (Yeshua) truly did not come to abolish Torah but to fulfill it
I was just on a FB discussion where a Lutheran pastor was talking about how Jesus broke 'the Law' in order to bring about a higher purpose. I recommended that everyone on the chain read this book; and I'm going to send him a copy. Buy this book. Read it. Think about it.
Loved this book! So rich with information I had to read a little at a time to really soak it all in. I loved reading the connections of Jesus’ words & the Old Testament. Matt also explains Jewish traditions that make what Jesus said or did that much more significant.
Matt Rosenberg’s book Jesus Never Said Anything New is a welcome and well written introduction to the Jewishness of both the New Testament and the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Messiah Yeshua, that is. If you’ve ever wondered about the connection between the Old and New Testaments or if you’ve ever been told that the New Testament is a very Jewish book but didn’t quite see how, then this book is exactly what you need. In fact, this book is exactly what every believer in Jesus, whether Jewish or Gentile, needs to read. I had been waiting with great expectations ever since I heard that this book was going to be published. I can honestly say that it has even exceeded those high expectations. Get this book! Read this book! Share this book! You will not regret it!
I stopped reading this book at about halfway through. Though I agree with the author on many points….it took forever for him to actually get to it, and was not well written. I felt like I was reading a middle schoolers paper on the subject.
