David Givens is a fiction writer from Waterloo, Iowa, whose work has always centered on one thing: the interior lives of people the world tends to look past.

He began his publishing career with the Betrayed trilogy (Triple Crown Publications), street lit with genuine narrative ambition, and spent the years since expanding into new genres without abandoning what made that early work land. His upcoming novel in romance science fiction, To Be Seen (Givens Production Group), marks the clearest expression yet of where that evolution has taken him: a lyrical, emotionally precise novel about an alien researcher who has spent centuries observing humanity and finally, dangerously, starts to feel it. The sequel, The Space We Carry, continues that story.

He lives in the Midwest with his wife and children, and that life, grounded, rooted, full, shows up in everything he writes.

Great book, quick easy read and a surprising end! I love it!

The main character reminded me of the lead character Ghost in Power a series on Showtime. I am looking forward to reading more of David Givens work...

Waterloo, Iowa may sound like a small Midwestern town but its proximity to the major highways leading to larger cities like Minneapolis, St Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, Milwaukee and even Chicago has transformed Waterloo into a goldmine for the GMC. The GMC (Get Money Crew) is headed by Darrell Jenkins whose moniker The Sandman wasn’t earned by telling bedtime stories. The betrayal he suffered at the hands of his former boss and his baby’s mother transforms Darrell into a ruthless yet focused leader.

Darrell’s mind is on his money and his money is on his mind as he plans on expanding his organization against some of his rivals in Waterloo. Darrell realizes that this expansion will bring about a drug war but he’s focused and secure in his plans at controlling Waterloo’s drug trade. But what Darrell couldn’t plan on was falling for Sherrice Valdez. Sherrice is a down on her luck former waitress whom Darrell rescues from a perilous situation and immediately falls for. Sherrice is just as smitten in her knight in shining armor and soon the duo is Waterloo’s power couple.

But lurking in the shadows is an enemy that’s plotting on Darrell’s empire. The unknown person is secretly working with a person inside of Darrell’s organization and also providing the police with damaging information. Information that will greatly benefit Detective Malik Thomas, who’s also been plotting on the demise of Darrell and the entire GMC.

What did you like best about the book?
Betrayed was an entertaining read that stayed true to Triple Crown Publication’s formula for delivering street tales.

What did you dislike about the book?
The books formula was a little too simplistic and had no elements to make it stand out amongst the countless other street tales.

How could the author improve the book?
With street lit gaining so much popularity Mr. Givens needs to add a fresh spin to give his story an unique touch so that it won’t become just another street tale.

The Act of moving forward not backwards"

The Get Money Crew via the way of Waterloo, Iowa is led by Darryl Jenkins aka the Sandman. The sandman is not the man to mess with in Waterloo. He eats and sleeps power within the game. Darryl is reserved and low key but who can blame him in his position. Terry is the lieutenant in the GMC; he and D go back as far as Boston Bake beans and Bazooka Joe Bubblegum. Terry is the loud, arrogant, and the dangerous one.

I really enjoyed Betrayed; on a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 10 for excellent read. There were a few typing errors in the book, and yes I had to go back and re-read certain sentences to make sure I was not the crazy one. Betrayed kept me entertained and I love how Mr. Givens brings the characters in the book, and a nice pace. He doesn't have characters being thrown all around the book so it's not hard to keep up. Betrayed is mixed with the genre of a movie that persist of drama, mystery, and thriller. Once the moral of the story comes together at the end of the book, you will be shaking your head, screaming out loud, and saying get the heck out of here. The moral of the story is making a move without checking every angle will remind you why real N-word does things out in the open.

BETRAYED by Author David Givens takes place in Waterloo, Iowa.

The main character Darrell known as the Sandman and his crew GMC takes the Midwest by storm. Darrell has everything he wanted but a woman in his life. Once he meets Sherrice sparks begin to fly. Darrell believes that she is the one for him.

This book has it all love, drama, deceit, suspense, baby momma drama and a detective with a chip on his shoulder. The crew has total control over drugs, money, and politicians. Can they keep it all in line? Can they trust on another? Can Darrell trust Sherrice the one he falls in love with?

Issues with Darrell and his crew, things start to get out of control quickly, as a drug war turns the streets into a war zone.

This book kept my interest. The plot was very good. The characters were wonderful. The story line flowed very good . I did not expect the ending. and I was so glad to have book 2 ready to read. You will definitely love this book.

I highly recommend BETRAYED to all readers. This will be a great book club discussion. This book is a page turner.

Betreyed is about a young hustler named Darrell Jenkins aka The Sandman. He's one of the biggest drug lords in Waterloo,Iowa. In his eyes there can only be one man on top and he has to be that man. He will do whatever it takes to get to that rank. Darrell has plans to take down every other high powered drug ring. While doing so Darrell begings to pursue a young woman named Sherrice who brings alot of baggage with her. Were there's good there's bad and body's begin to drop. Darrell has a strong team or so he thinks. There's always that one maybe two or more haters who throw salt in the game. Unbeknownst to him those haters are closer to him then he thinks.

I enjoyed this book alot. It keep we awake at night and antsy. Every page was better then the last. There were more surprise then I could count. It was an easy read and very intriging. The main reason I liked this book is because it shows even the strongest man falls hard.

Betrayed was a good book. It had started off great and it was full of suspense. It started off with a very wealthy man ready to find a good women and he did just that when him and his friends went to the club and a girl in distress. And from then on out they just clicked. Between being ab the drug dealer, gang life wasnt easy. Between him having enemies wanting to tear him apart, friends trading, and a crazy baby momma all was betraying him. It was one person who he knew would never do that.

I learned from this book that you can't trust everybody no matter what they tell you about themselves and how well they treat you because in the end anything can happen and people can turn on you in a heart beat.

It managed to both meet and defy my expectations for the Urban Fiction genre; unsurprising as this is the first Urban Fiction I've read. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the surprise twist ending. The sex was more mechanical than sensual, but I'm not sure if that was a genre convention or not.

It goes to show how some men are very weak when it comes to "pu**y" I figured out sherrice's game by the time I hit the 4th chapter, I guess I wasn't to surprised at the ending, poor sandman...
